What is the purpose of a Karaoke version with a backing vocal?
Edit after 2 years: I learned why lmao
Simple: The purpose is for you to do the main voice; try it, it will be fun !
the purpose of the backing vocal is obviously so that you can HARMONIZE with the kareoke track and blend the 2 vocals together to create the sound ! Remember singing harmonies is completely different to singing lead vocals on your own ! and remember to sing harmonies you need to know what key you are in and you need to know the names of the seperate melodic notes that make up the full harmonies AND you need to use proper diaphram breathing technique AND you need to use AURAL SKILLS/listening skills so that you can block out other frequencies and listen to only ONE frequency/sound which all helps you to perform harmonies along with other skills.Only people who are actual MUSICIANS will actually fully understand. Great kareoke track by the way ! exactly what i need ! now i can sing the main melody (art garfunkle's part) and sing great soaring harmonies on this track ! am also gonna learn how to play this song on my electric guitar too ! thanks heaps ! :)

You obviously don't know what the meaning of harmony
As they already told you, you don't know. But if you listen the original carefully you ll notice 2 voices... tha main one is higher and you hear it better, and the other lower, a 3rd below actually that's more hidden, that's the one here, you ll sing the main one and complete the harmony like simon and paul
