- Former Pussycat Dolls singer Melody Thornton is dishing on what really happened during the group’s now-viral performance at the 2006 American Music Awards. Melody also reflects on her time in the Pussycat Dolls and explains why she decided to not join the group for their revival in 2019. She then reveals if she’d be down to join the group for a special occasion. The 35-year-old songstress also shares her favorite PCD song and the surprising track that she didn’t initially appreciate, but grew to love. For now, Melody is sending the group positive vibes and staying focused on her journey as a solo artist. She was signed entirely because her vocals. If they wanted dancers they could’ve found way better, Melody was often not even in some dance sequences or in the back because she was the weakest. She was signed to sing as another vocalist along with Carmit.

It definitely was. I remember watching it live with my aunt when it came on tv and being shocked at seeing only 5 dolls and then Jessica's chair falling and she had to improvise but Melody showing up at the end was the cherry on top. The 2006 Amas was definitely the most iconic memorable performance of Buttons.
Melody has always been super classy about not blaming Nicole or taking petty jabs at her. She just wants her own success and recognized she wasn’t gonna find it in that group.
I get the feeling she's happier as a human being for not being petty. She seems to live from glass half full, there's room for everyone to win kind of mentality. Good for her!

I can’t believe Nicole stole her passport while she was drugged up on the tour bus & then when they were on the ferry she intentionally threw it into the water causing Melody to miss the flight for the AMAs. The interviewer did great at asking the questions to the tea we all want to know but Melody did amazing on answering the questions.
“I don’t wanna live my life on a cash grab” she said that. She’s like the Victoria of the Spice Girls or Alfonso of RBD, every music group has a member reluctant to join a reunion.
In her case, i think she just did not enjoy her time in the group bec of the imbalance.

I almost wanna go out and buy her album just because. I applaud her. She is a real life testament to how hard it is to make it in the business. Because she was there. She was there at the top of the industry in the spotlight on stage, record deal and everything and she still couldn’t get noticed or break out. That’s rough. @@Aguilarioz Maroon 5 is a band, they all play a musical part (i.e. instruments or vocals). A group like PCD (which I love) basically has one lead vocalist and dancers (no shade to the girls). I think they are 2 very different things.

It's good that she's taking a step back and focusing on her solo career. PCD's management was the worst all of the girls minus Nicole were treated badly I hope all goes well for both Melody and PCD's future.
Now that we know 4 of the women were lip syncing I’d say Nicole got it the worst. She was basically a top selling solo artist for 5 years and nobody knows her name.

@@dannyblue2178 I do listen to Melody's solo work. My favorite from POMBL is Hit the Ground Running. I love Phoenix Rise from her latest, Lioness Eyes. Space is my favorite solo from Doll Domination. I clicked the video to hear about Melody and her solo efforts and was disappointed that the majority of conversation was about PCD. Sure it was nice to hear the story behind the AMAs mishap, but all the other PCD related questions had been asked a million times before 10 years ago. Yes, it's going to follow her throughout her career, but when she's trying to promote her new project, it shouldn't just be thrown in the last two minutes at the end.

Oh I wish her success with this endeavor and all other endeavors of hers. Wish success for the PCD reunion, too. I really do hope that they could come together as a group for a performance, better if more than one performance, even if Melody remains focused on her solo project. I think her joining the PCD for special performances would even make those performances explosive events.

If we’re being honest I didn’t even notice half the members are gone now. They had too many to begin with anyways and the group basically only relies on the lead vocals of Nicole. So hopefully if works out for melody and PCD individually. 😊
