So calibers above 20 mm will be able to disable tanks basically?

Theoretically, but AP vs HE loadouts will do better (blue rounds vs orange). But think about what your opponent is doing while you make several gun runs at the same target. If you have fighter cover, great. Otherwise RTB and bring big bombs :)

I've been able to destroy medium German tanks with the US .50

Accurate shooting I can see that possible. Look at the AP loadouts for the 50 cal.
