A perfect Schumann quintet for your classic Sunday. The work of the quartet of musicians of the Paris Orchestra seems magnificent to me, and Heléne Grimaud, although she may be excessive in theatricality, as has been said here, is a reliable pianist. A good way to end the weekend.
Hi Jeff Could you listen and react to Auroras acoustic/live cover of Rasputin by Boney M? Im absolutely in love with it, and I think you'll really enjoy it.
Absolutely wonderful piece by Schumann - sorry to say, but not my interpretation, a bit too pathetic/theatralic gesture. Second mvt is titled "In modo d'una marcia. Poco largamente"- comparing live performances with studio recordings is always a tricky thing, but personally I prefer e.g. Andsnes and Artemis Quartett. They are a not that slow - and less over-accentuating they achieve the same if not even greater emotional depth. There are not many pieces which achieve such an outstanding balance between a sad, almost dry march and a heavenly-longing part in between before an outburst of passion is allowed to shine through. A rare pearl of chamber music, for sure admired by Brahms as you can hear where some of Brahms ideas might have come from.
This is definitely one of the slower and more lyrically articulated interpretations, and, yes, Grimaud is at times a bit theatrical. It’s hard to say which interpretation I like more as I attended a concert last fall in Ann Arbor by Jeremy Denk and the Takacs Quartet. They played this movement quite a bit quicker and with more detached articulations, but it was absolutely as beautiful and convincing as this performance. For me, as long as the playing is musical and the phrasing is done well (and the musicians don’t try to force the music to do what it doesn’t want to do), then I can enjoy a range of interpretations. One of the reasons I loved the Takacs Quartet’s performance (they did an excellent rendition of Haydn’s Op.77 No.2 string quartet in the same program as well) is that it was different from how I expected the work to sound, but still played it very musically and thoughtfully.
@@rbmelk7083 Takacs Quartet is always high level - sometimes their interpretation is a revelation - like Schuberts D 887 quartet, Dvoraks op. 106 or as you already mentioned their Haydn - one of the greatest String quartet formations for sure.
@@StrateleStudios Do you know of Chloe Chua? If not I will make a $45 reaction request. (Be truthful now, I would very much like it to be a first time reaction to her!🙂)
