I'm from Scotland and this song just came into my head 5 minutes ago so here I am. Back in 1984 the Patea Maori Club came over to the UK to promote this. I saw this on TV twice I think and it's stuck with me ever since. Comes into my head now and again but this is the first time I've heard it since 84 and I feel 16 again (only in the head) I have no idea what the song is about, I just love the feel good nature of it. Oh and I'm a big fan of the All Blacks so if I win the lottery I'm definitely emigrating 😉
I’m an American and I found this song through Wikipedia. I was doing some research on poi performance and they mentioned this song under ‘Maori Culture’.
Tena Koe. My name is Alessandra .💚I am a proud kiwi. I live and breathe this song. It's amazing and I love how it represents our culture so beautifully. 🇳🇿Ka pai to any one who wants to learn this song. 😊Just listen to it and learn little bits at a time. Start with the chorus. It's different each time.💖💖

I love New Zealand culture. Reminds me a lot of Canada. We're always bullied by Americans as they're by the Aussies. But we all know we're the better country
New Zealand is always picked on by Aussies whenever it comes up in pop culture. Example being like 3 flight of the conchords episodes where they were picked on by the Aussie consulate. And I used to live in Australia and my best mate was from New Zealand so people would always give him shit, jokingly of course. You're awfully defensive aren't you?

I only came here because Ben and Jono were playing this song when they were doing a film tribute to Taika Waititi and the films he did before. I recently watched Thor: Ragnarok last Friday and I thought it was pretty awesome. Taika made an wonderful movie for Marvel’s Thor. Lots of comedy, lots of action, lots of improv. And they made Thor a funny, but badass character that I definitely saw in a new light. And The Incredible Hulk was definitely the highlights of the movie. Valkyrie was boss when she was facing off those undead Asgardian soldiers. Loki had some incredible moments too. And Korg was definitely the MVP of the movie. My hat off to you Taika and I hope your future continues to be a shining success! Anyway, this song, Poi E, is really uplifting too. I loved hearing it.
Often I play this video. Today with gratitude I used it in my a.m. personal stay at home ANZAC Remembrance Service Thanking you kindly Blessings be to you

you're either here because of boy, or because you have to practice this for kapa haka
Or because you've just seen "Poi E: the Story of our Song" and the words went by too fast on a first hearing.
Or because you had too much tequila and want to sing along
