    Thanks for sharing. Grim conditions.
You got back safe. Well done.
You were very calm, also kudos.
    Boards can be replaced.
The experience will be invaluable and has reminded me to review all my self rescue and Andrei’s ‘How to survive a death loop’ vid again.
Bet I wouldn’t remember any of it in the moment.
I couldn’t see if you’d wound your bar when you’d got to the kite. If yes, cool. If not, the lines can get wound around your ankles while you tread water. One to watch out for. Stay safe.

First and foremost I always wear floatation so that I never have to kick my legs during these rescues. You can see in the video that when I note that I'm getting pretty tangled up in the lines instead of trying to get them off me in the water I simply hop on my kite and start to sail it away from the lines. This pulls the lines off of me without having them stay bunched up near me in the water where they can just tangle me again.
I also have a bit different technique for self rescue that is typically taught, I was taught the typical way, I just like this way better as I feel it's safer, faster, and cleaner. This is my technique:
      1. Line craw directly to the kite as fast as possible without using legs to swim
      2. Detach all lines from kite, a kite without lines is much less dangerous
      3. Secure kite to my secondary leash (I always ride with a short leash for my kite and a secondary long leash)
      4. Swim/sail/float for a bit to let the lines straighten out behind you (this makes for much less tangles)
      5. If close to the beach and it's no danger to others just go in with lines floating behind me
      6. If it's going to be a longer rescue or there are dangers of others hitting my lines wrap up bar
      7. Sail/swim to shore

That board is so easy to spot haha. Good thing! Whenever I crash my all white twintip on rough waves, its almost hopeless trying to find it...

    Swimmingly 😂
    Great wave riding!
I’ve had that exact scenario occur a few times when falling towards the kite, slack lines, and a steering line around the back of the bar.
Flagging out the kite in the waves is no fun, but earlier maybe better.
Looks like a fun spot, for foil too

Thank you bro for sharing this video. As a beginer, it's good to feel this in real and be prepared for that.

Well done! Glad you made it back pretty calm. Solo or any one strut are no good in those conditions! Whats the board?

    • @slappyosis
      @slappyosis  3 года назад

I fly my solos in winds up to 50 knots, they do pretty well. Any kite can deathloop if the bar gets wrapped like that.
The board is the Wave Bandit Performer 4-10, can't be beat.

Oh no, that one loop/yank was nuts. Did you find your board?

No sign of it yesterday but it was getting dark. I might head out today and walk the beach from 72nd but it's pretty miserable out.

Well, I walked over 4 km from 72nd ave all the way to Beach Grove and no sign of the board.

@@slappyosis I have a sticker on my board with name & number and someone really called me and didn't even want my 50€ reward. There are honest and kind people out there, so put your number on your board. Greetings from Germany

This looked dangerous, why did it drop twice?

  • @d3adlygr1mgamer10

Please take this as a constructive criticism, try to be gentle on the bar pulling. I am referring to minute 2 08 of the video, that is completely unnecessary. Try placing your hand more in the middle of the bar, keeps you more in control and prevents unwanted/ dangerous steering. Glad you are okay.

I'm assuming you don't realize that I'm looping the kite when I do that. When you are surfing waves in on-shore conditions you often have to loop the kite to make it keep up with you. If you choose to "gently" loop a kite it's anything but gentle, the faster and tighter you loop it the less power generated.

Did you find your board in the end?

    • @slappyosis
      @slappyosis  Год назад +1

I didn't find it at the time, but about 6 months later I got a phone call from someone who had found it (always write your phone number on your board). Sadly because it's a foamie it wasn't in the greatest shape after 6 months of washing around with the tide but it was still functional.

@@slappyosis Yeh, when I bought my board I wrote my name and email address on it, then varnished over it to make sure it would be there forever. It's a cool board maybe a little big now, but I will never sell it on. I kinda laugh at it when I see it written on the base of the board, good ol'days.
