Quick heads up guys; this video was supposed to come out yesterday but RUclips/Mattel found some issues with the D&D episode and Down The Mine. Expect some cuts in it sadly. :/ The originals are just fine and still up too though!
I thought the sleeping beauty episode origins came from the coris/talyllyn railways? The coris engine (number 1 I think it was) was hidden by the driver/fireman in machnelleth to stop them from being repossessed and destroyed. Years later once everything had settled and the coris railway had a team to rebuild some of the railway as a tourist attraction they uncovered them from a shed and had to get rebuilt Edit: duke is also clearly a recreation of 1 of the engines as it originally back in the day had a tender where the rest had bunkers
If I had a nickel for every time a steam engine has fallen into a cavern, I would have two nickels. That's not a lot, but it's funny that it happened twice.
You know, there’s another reason to love the old Thomas show and toys. It's called variety. Classic Thomas take-n-play had variety, wooden railway had variety, and Trackmaster and Tomy had variety too. The show had variety too up until the CGI era where they switched to "Trackmaster 2" which took variety away massively. I was lucky to find both original Donald and Douglas at a Walmart and got both as my last in-store buying of the bygone era. Variety made Thomas&Friends loveable with how much different merchandise there was compared to nowadays with too many repeats of the same character and I'm sure everyone could agree.
I'm pleasantly surprised at how this series marathon feels like an actual marathon for adults at times especially with the end card "the next story is coming up soon!" And how it's all presented really makes this so nostalgic! :D
The shot at 31:24 is one of the best in the series for how clever it is. The fact that the Fat Controller and his office are Gauge 3 while the rest is Gauge 1 to give an illusion of depth shows the ingenuity of David Mitton and his crew.
The funny thing about unstoppable is that it was directly based on the "Crazy Eights" incident. It started CSX locomotive 8888 performing routine switching maneuvers when the engineer noticed a misaligned switch, being unable to stop In time, he set the locomotive's independent brake, disabling the dead man's switch, as well as attempted to set the dynamic brake on the locomotive, instead putting the throttle in slot 8. the engineer ran ahead of the locomotive, threw the switch and attempted to climb back on, but the locomotive was now going too fast, dragging him about 80 ft. the locomotive was officially a runaway with 47 cars, 4 of which were filled with molten phenol, a highly toxic chemical, and all of this happened in Ohio because it's Ohio. there were multiple attempts to stop 8888, such as using a derailer to toss it off the rails, then hitting a fuel shut-off on the side of the locomotive with a gun. 8888 uno-reversed the derailer throwing it from the tracks, and the police weren't even aiming at the right spot for the shut-off, which had no chance of being activated by a bullet as it needed to be held down for a second. eventually CSX locomotive 8392 was uncoupled from its train and gave chase to the runaway, putting to use knuckle couplers, and coupling behind 8888 to slow the locomotive, where an engineer climbed into the cab and shut off the throttle, the locomotive's brake shoes now being worn down to an insane extent. we can all guess what happened to the engineer of 8888.
One of the cringiest moments I look back on when explaining my lifelong, even as an adult, love of Thomas the Tank Engine to my sister was the moment I said "It's actually quite realistic, you know". Of course, I was talking about the RWS stories and their real life backgrounds... but she thought I meant talking trains on a secret magic island.
An attempt to show off its talent in the Great Railway Show. Yet, did it in a public place, and unintentionally killing a woman; thus, the engine was disqualified from participating.
Love the fact you are making the series videos I’m to one long bingable video, imagine if you did it for the “making of” videos that would probably be 2+ hours 😂 always love your content trainboy #dontbeaonionhead
Shoot man I was REALLY tempted but worry that’d be too many “sculpted in clay and casts were made of resin molds’ one after the other 😅 Thank you so much my dude and no matter what stay awesome bro, and ofc don’t be an onionhead 💪🤣
Oooo let me add to the temptation I know it would be a lot of work but You could always cut that famous catch phrase 😂 or anything else you think is repeated to much 😅 you are so welcome my dude and I’ll stay awesome if you do bro 💪🏻🤣
one thing I noticed that you didn't cover in Gordon Takes a Dip, is the fact the story of the 4MT was sent as a letter to Wilbert, and the young boy who sent the story got a signed copy of Gordon the Big engine when It came out. Cool for him.
About the Flying Kipper - one thing that bugs me about the TV version compared to the book, is whilst they both make it clear that the driver, fireman and guard are all in the brake van, in the TV version only the driver and fireman escape before the crash, whereas in the book we are explicitly shown that the guard survived and was just grumpy instead of injured / dead.
12:53 That Hilarious part of what you said "Somebody probably got fired, Somebody f***ed up" literally made me bust out laughing for 20 minutes straight🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Man, love the supercut(despite the, er, _cuts_ that Mattel forced you to make)! Watched the entirety of the series beforehand, and loved every one of them! However, as nice as the supercut is, I think I'll stick to the originals, mainly for two reasons: A. All the information is clumped up together here(not necessarily bad, but I just don't prefer it), and B. Due to the cuts that you unfortunately had to make, stories like "Dolly Disappears" from your Down The Mine video have, ironically, disappeared. Either way, nice to know they're all here together now.
i noticed something about the story about thomas falling down the mine to the real life base. the movie legend of the lost treasure thomas pass over a danger sign and falls down the revine. its almost the same revine that the engine fallen down
What i find mind-boggling about Sodor is that none of the railways have closed down due to the amount of life-threatening crashes, or that none of the crews had quit.
Tiniest little linguistic note i wanna bring up and nothing really of consequence, but "forethought" makes little sense to me used in the context here. n. "Careful consideration of what will be necessary or may happen in the future." I think you might have been thinking of a similar word with an opposing tense, meaning i.e. careful consideration of past events or commentary, summary, or conclusions drawn from prior topics. If you do similar videos in future, consider this term or phrase as an alternative: Retrospect (-ive), or 'in retrospect' - "looking back on a past event or situation; with hindsight" Great video so far. I'm guessing the occasional jump cuts mid-sentence are due to copyright trolling from mattel, and youtube's automatic ID system, despite this clearly being Fair Use.
@Norma Buarque Bit naieve of you to assume that, just because the primary demographic of a tv show was boys, it therefore is somehow not "for girls". I enjoyed it plenty, I'm not the only woman who enjoyed it as a young girl, and I'm very confused about what you're trying to say here.
21:01 a little thing not a lot of people realize is only the driver and the fireman leave the brake van "The driver got up, come on fireman back to our engine. They got out just in time." Meaning the guard is still in there cause that's where he's supposed to be and we never hear from him so he's probably dead🗿
I've enjoyed watching this special and, now I think about it, I'd like you to look into Thomas in Trouble, because I want to see whether or not an overzealous Constable actually did try to prosecute the Crew of a locomotive for "being a danger to the public"
Wait… there was 3 people in the breakvan in the flying kipper… it was said only the driver and fireman left the van to go to their engine… what about the guard?
For the flying kipper crash the men in the breakvan were: james’s driver and fireman And the gaurd. Although James’s D&F got out in time the gaurd unfortunately wasnt. And we all know What happend to him…
There was a second down the mine irl scenario, but sad. The driver of a small 6 wheel saddle tank working on a mine feltthr ground breaking and as the fireman jumped the driver tried to save him but his efforts were in vain as he and the engine together were lost to the earth.
It was not based off of Crazy 8s runaway but it did remind me of Old Iron But the Engineer was at fault for this runaway And in thomas and the Breakdown Train James accident was Similar to Cajone Pass Derail ments only two, And Nepitsguit runaway where an Engineer Took one too many cars and not Couple the Air breaks it derailed on a curve and into a snowbank on its side the Engineer survived to tell the tail
So I remember going when hearing the news that a new Thomas and Friends is coming out I went over to Netflix and I saw the Abomination I really so badly hated it that I don't think the Thomas franchise is ever going to recover because of that little show I am never watching again I thought hey maybe it's a little decent so I watched it and at the end my eyes were burning

Ah, makes sense!
Can I have all your things when you die 🫠 jk I’ll make sure there buried with you

Yes.
Yes
Not so funny the second time,
Um, accusualy 🤓🤓🤓 you would have 3

Here’s something to think about:
The Lindal Loco was technically buried alive
Yep
Lindal locos such a good name
OMG….
13:41 Percying is staring at your soul
I like how in the Lost Treasure, an entire subplot was started just because of this..
Thank you Trainboy for all of your great content! Keep up the great work!

I think the crazy eights runaway happened a while after this episode came out
@@AglassOfHotCoCoProductions If the episode came out in 1986, then yes, 8s was 15 years after that

Mountain Engines is literally an amazing book, and the Snowdon Railway is pretty cool too.

Yeah, when your on a train, doesn’t the train look back at you and say “guys stop talking! Your giving me a headache”
Montparnasse Derailment, DERAILMENT!? No that's an absolute, I don't know what to call it, a collision and a subsequent swan dive?
An attempt to show off its talent in the Great Railway Show. Yet, did it in a public place, and unintentionally killing a woman; thus, the engine was disqualified from participating.

Man who knew some of these stories were spot-on! How would Awdry like the 1895 inspired station crash?
this is a very informative video
thanks alot for making it
The engine involved in the real flying kipper accident is actually Emily‘s class 😂
So meany deaths for trains but even the steamys are dismalteld we still love them plus I don’t think I existed when steamys existed

Just got struck by an idea:
The true stories that inspired/may have inspired TUGS.
It’s quite funny though how the off the rails incidents real life part only happened 3 months before the book, took no time for Awdry to click 😂
The montparnesse engine may not be physically damaged, it got EMOTIONAL DAMAGE

I love you. Thank you for your content.
Gordon: creates a sizeable hole but remains in the station

percy being on the brake van is jus MWAHH but the actual picture looks like olivers mutation in sodor fallout with no face but no spider legs
So any idea if the true stories behind the classic stories will come back?
It’s quite sad when you listen to the story’s of the original of the story like dolly disappears

Good question. I asked this myself and I came up with the answer that either the guard died or was seriously injured.
Lokomotiva 115 crash is more like the crash in sodors legend of the lost tresure. Where thomas falls in a holl wit a pirat ship
Not sure if ppl have pointed this out, but I believe the L&YR 2-4-2 is a class 5
I find it hilarious yet still sad that the train that fell down the mine was the inspiration for James yet Thomas fell in. . . . Lucky bastard
For the flying kipper crash the men in the breakvan were: james’s driver and fireman
And the gaurd.
Although James’s D&F got out in time the gaurd unfortunately wasnt.

I like the warning at the beginning with the vapor wave national anthem. Isn’t that the sign off from Adult Swim? I swear I’ve head that before
that would be fire if they did that on the KVR, i mean they have an LYR class 27, not a 28, but really similar

7:17- unrelated but I’ve heard that stock music in a video I saw an hour ago
At this point fellas train Boy needs to own thomas and friends
Mattel give up the thomas and friends license
2:09 they should get it out, it’s the last of its class, i wish they could get it, it looks like James, it could be a real life James
The intro music is hilarious considering Thomas is a British tank engine
It feels like almost every Thomas and friends main lineup of trains has had a real life accident. True or False

Read the pinned comment

@@ItsTrainBoy OOOOOOH

i'm 9 and I watch the old episodes
Well, in Croatian dub Donald and Douglas are called Danko I Domagoj

What's the name of the music when you first start talking about the true story at The flying Kipper not the first one the second one

Oh that anthem

I would be very very very rich
*4501 is god level*

Ah yes TRAINS
If I had a dollar for every there was an accident or crash on sodor I’d be a goddam millionaire

If I had a nickel to evry time and engine would crash I'd be fucking rich
I don't know why would they be concerned about there breakfast instead of how the accident happen or how damage the house is
Wasn't the only terminus crash, yknow
Not by a long shot but inspired the topic, yknow 😬
