- Book BUYING Trip - DORSET Bob - February 2024 - With The OUTLAW Bookseller - An SF & Fantasy HAUL!
In today's video we take a look back at a great day I had recently on a book buying trip. Steve, the Outlaw Bookseller and I visited our good friend Dorset Bob. We got to have a first look through an incredible vintage SF and fantasy paperback and hardback collection. Many signed copies and rarities were there to behold.
What a day! At the end you get to see the books and related goodies I picked up. Full cleaning video on these coming in a couple of weeks.
These books will be on sale at the London Paperback and Pulp Fair. Details are here; etcfairs.com/

Looking back at this, I see so many things I'd buy if the budget stretched- simply stunning Fantasy, you NEVER see these books in this condition now, great opportunity for the hardcore Sword & Sorcery readership!
Absolutely Steve, so many beautiful books, I've still not got over it🙂
Agreed! You two have me running online to look for books I can't afford too!
@@salty-walt It's even worse when you'e physically confronted by a mass of incredibly toothsome titles- betwen' Jules gap-filling approach and my nostalgia buying, we're both foaming at the mouth on these trips....lucky but cursed!
@outlawbookselleroriginal it's true🙂
Great video . Great collection . Some i have , some i have read . Love Steve's commentry . Thank you gents .
Thanks Sylvan!
You collect Gor ? Jules Burt , i am shocked .😁😂🤣 . Truth be told they have some cool cover art . Alas they were frown upon, so i only had a couple pass through my hands in me younger days .h
The first five or so aren't too bad, after that, it's just the cover art, promise🤣 There's a couple of videos on the channel about them👍
Many gems in those boxes. This makes me nostalgic for my book hunting days.
It's a great feeling 🙂
I'll start saving my money now for some of those Conan books at the London show!
There were some great ones in the collection 👍
Several of those Conan editions I've never seen, lovely to see them and in such great condition!
Yes, from what I understand, quite a few uncommon ones in that lot. Pretty much all have sold now.
Besatmaster is my favourite too, one example of a film that's superior to the book!
For sure👍
Not sure if you covered this, but the artist from those Conan books is Frank Frazetta, I suspect.
He certainly did some👍
Amazing books. I want them all! 😁
So did I, could have spent a small fortune 🙂
Exciting stuff. Happy days.
Absolutely!
Jealous!!! I wish I could come to the show, but I'd have to fly from South Korea. LOL
That's a bit far!
That was just great Jules! I'm glad I had the time to watch it - fresh off the presses!
The Gor books always had iconic covers, and such great condition!
Of course, we never see the Pan horror books over here, but you're even finding Daw series I've never heard of! Amazing.
Thanks Walt! Those For books were real minters🙂 Pan horror has got scarce, even over here.
Great show! I will check Outlaw Bookseller channel.
Well worth it David👍
My TBR list has grown a lot because of his recommendations.
Absolutely stunning. Great video Jules - probably the best haul centric that I've ever seen (and I've seen a few.) I was in heaven just watching it. Working on a way to get to that fair from the North East. Apart from blowing my bank account it would be great to meet you and Stephen and maybe a few more booktubers. Living in hope.
Thanks Kenny, it was an amazing haul, I was in heaven and could have spent loads! Hope you can make the fair, it's well worth the effort 🙂
What an amazing collection you've acquired. Thoroughly enjoyed this trawl through Jules! 💜👍☺️
Thanks Michael🙂
At 22 minutes: Elizabeth A. Lynn - A Different Light. I've only read her Tornor trilogy. I liked it back in the late eighties.
Nice, well spotted🙂
Great stuff. Love the team-up episodes! :)
Thanks Paul, it's like a classic Marvel Team-Up🙂
I’ve said it before but those Gor books were everywhere in the 80s. I always thought they were a poor Conan or Tarzan knockoff.
The first five novels aren't too bad SF/Fantasy but after that they are very hit or miss. Always had great jackets though.
Fab collection and in such beautiful condition too. May see you at the fair. 👍📚
Excellent, please come by and say hello!
Leigh Brackett of course wrote the original script for The Empire Strikes Back
Thanks for the information 🙂
Which shows her significance as an influential figure- however, it was the screen treatment (the plot as such) she worked on, but died before she could contribute further, shame). She'd had a successful Hollywood screenwriting career as far back as the 1940s with Crime films- and as I'm sure you know, she wrote excellent Noir novels too.
Someone needs to read these Gor books... for research purposes of course.
I've read the first five or six, they get a bit samey after that.🙂
There's a John Lennon story in Dark Voices??? Intriguing...
Yep, as originally published in a Pan Book of Horror Stories, it is that John Lennon.
I have to admit that I missed your perspective on this one, Jules. Steve’s dominating the conversation made it seem more appropriate for his channel than yours. Also, shame on him for intimating a female author might have been published only if she resembled the shapely woman illustrated on the cover. Still, good info here and some ideas for future reads! I had no idea Asimov wrote any crime tales! Have you read any of his history non-fiction books? The one about Ancient Egypt is terrific.
Understood Glen. I bowed to Steve's knowledge on the subject which is by far superior to my own. We were both a bit caught up in the excitement to be honest 🙂 I look forward to Asimov's crime fiction.
@@JulesBurt Sorry if I came off more snarky than necessary, no disrespect was intended. I can remember being inundated by sci-fi/fantasy book choices at the bookstore when I was a teenager in the 70’s-80’s and wanting to read them all. But now that pop culture has overtaken so much of the genre, it’s not as appealing to me anymore. That sounds strange, I know.
Anyway, have a great time at the show this weekend! I was so hoping I could make it from Germany, but no money dented the idea. Really looking forward to your video from the show. Have fun!
@ProfessorEchoMedia thanks Glen, no worries mate. Shame you can't make it, maybe next time. I'll try and make my video if the show as epic as possible!
