Good movie. I met Jim Quillen in San Francisco once. He was an inmate at Alcatraz when this escape happened. He told the story in his book Alcatraz from inside. He passed away over 20 years ago but he signed his business card for me that I lost somehow.
Amazing film, very well acted and the scenes very well done, great story as well.
Thanks for this, well recommended way to pass some time.
Ive been in prison many times. Escaped once. It was no fun, cant see your family because the cops were watching the house, cant go back to your old haunts. No money, no food, your only choice is to do more crimes. Eventually you get caught. Better off in prison and do your time.

The warden was insane. Tear gas and going in with an assault team would have been better than grenades. Great cast and story.

true story although the real ending was different. They were all killed but not close up by guards. This was covered in the book The Rock, by Alvin Karpis.

All of the other prisoners had gone to work in a building other than the Cell Block Building. Those in Cell Block "C" who planned to escape made excuses to not go to work. Once the escape plan began, the other prisoners did not return to Cell Block "C" where the escape took place.
@@stoveboltlvr3798 Apparently, this movie is based on the facts of the story. The prison campus arrangement of separate buildings for different functions enabled the warden to lock down only the cell blocks that housed the inmates, and he concluded that only Cell Block "C" was out of control.

Prisons in western countries and america are like hotels compare to prisons in Sri lanka, there are like 200 people locked up in a prison cell that originally made for 30 inmates, they sleep on their cheeks on the floor, beds? Well you get them if you are lucky enough to get sick and admitted to prison hospital and there are vacant beds, people even sleep around the toilet area in that prison cell where 200 people use during night time, if the water tank got any water left in the tank next to toilet they would plush the toilet after they use with a bucket of water, because there will no running water will be available only at certain times, some people wont get a chance to sleep so they stand close to cell door while night, sometimes they tand with one feet coz there is no room for both feet, oh forgot to mention there are no doors for toilets, sometimes they would have a curtain fixed as a door, well these modern day prison hotels are luxury, food, harassments, and thousamds things to talk about, but i just gave some simple sample of hell. American criminals are lucky 😂😂😂

@@CharlieMitchelljr. Al Capone was transfered from Alcatraz to another prison after 4 years and was later paroled due to a mental disease. He died in in 1947 from a stroke.

On Jan 21 1947, capone had a stroke. He regained consciousness and started to improve, but contracted bronchopneumonia. He suffered a cardiac arrest on Jan 22, and on Jan 25, surrounded by his family in his home, died after his heart failed as a result of apoplexy.

This has nothing to do about this movie,I figured out Social security is meant to be borrowed not to keep,I keep hearing my relatives, and friends talking about,well you paid into it,and I would say sure I had plenty of jobs,and some jobs I stayed on,for six years,with small minimum wage,I am old enough to get S.S., However it is not in my cards to collect since I was warned by the Holy Spirit about the world system,back in the late 90's,when I was still young, and still working.
