The ROCKS Pirates, despite their overwhelming power, could not reach their full potential under ROCKS
@@Tekking101 well sometimes it gets annoying like on fairy tail but one piece does it correctly by it not being the direct power up but instead the drive to get stronger because you have friends to protect Zoro with mihawk bowing. Luffy stopping his journey to train. The list goes on Roxs meanwhile we hear they aren't friends and teamwork goes the extra mile and garp and Roger working together probably made the difference

Natsu and Erza do it ever fight as when they yell nakama they suddenly win a losing situation where the enemy blocks their powers and has them one hit away from dying only to flip it immediately with no hesitation. I mean take Zoro and taking the pain for Luffy. The journey shows how much Zoro believes in Luffy to give up his own dream. That's a risk. Same with bowing to mihawk the one he wants to surpass. Those are stakes and growth letting go of your pride for a friend.

I don't expect it to be that clear-cut. One of the benefits of dropping these labels is that most pirates can fall somewhere in between. Roger hurt many people with his actions (even if only indirectly for the most part) and that darker side to his journey is a big appeal of his character because it prevents him from being just "Luffy before Luffy".
I mean if you really want an indictment of Rocks... NONE of his former crewmates talk fondly of their captain... they are affably to each other but Rock's barely gets a mention. There is no Rayleigh wistfully breaking into tears remembering his first meeting with Roger. Rocks is the embodiment of FUCK THAT GUY

I have said it before but I think Captain John's treasure was what he took from the other Rocks Pirates as he fled from God Valley instead of fighting along his crewmates. Maybe Kaido or Whitebeard or Big Mom or another member of Rocks crew viewed John as a traitor and killed him. The Rocks Pirates we see as Yonko years later all had that pirate code we see in other Pirates while those we haven't seen all fell due to their infighting and selfishness.

Even whitebeard couldn't believe that Monster was still alive he had rocks vivre card!!! Rocks named teach after the famous Marshall pirates who got executed for stealing fruits!!!
Tekking, I didnt even think about it but perospero was alive and old enough to remeber god valley. Big mom had hin when she was 18, She was 30 when god valley happened.
It's still pretty crazy that none of the Rocks crew members didnt unite with one another after the disbandment. Just from the marines reaction alone of big mom and Kaido joining up they would've been a force to be reckoned with.This a testament of how much they hate each other lol.

I always assumed when garp was explaining the fight against rocks that it was a 2 v 1. All their crews probably did fight it out but in my head i always it garp and roger focused solely on rocks
It's kinda funny in a way. 40 years ago, the ultimate Pure Power vs Power of Friendship was put to the test, and selfish but overwhelming might lost. This lesson was passed on to Shanks, who passed it on to Luffy. And ever since Luffy started his adventure, he has never put any value in power over friendship. And becausr of this, he has time and time again triumphed over people who haven't learned this lesson.
I find it an important detail is how much respect and honor guys like Roger, Rayleigh, Garp and Sengoku had for Whitebeard. It’s almost feels not everyone mutiny and Whitebeard might of joined with Roger and Garp and maybe fought Kaido and Big Mom or some other member. It probably was it’s own arc with every important character having a fight and in the end the Rocks pirates losing.
I’m going to give a brief explanation of my theory on how Whitebeard’s perspective on being a pirate changed at god valley: I’d imagine that Whitebeard still viewed the Rocks pirates as family , but from the perspective of a son. I think it would be interesting if he was sort’ve similar to Weevil or Katakuri. It would be interesting if he was the loyal family member being used by the chaotic family members, who as a son he would not stand up to. I imagine that in the heat of God Valley, someone like Wang Zhi grabs Rocks by the shoulder begging him to have the crew retreat, and Rocks just cuts and kills Wang Zhi for interrupting his fight and continues to laugh and battle. This is where Whitebeard sees that the ‘father’ in the family he is in does not have any morals, making him abide by the pirate code and providing a structure for his future crew. In a last ditch effort of escape this is when Whitebeard yells for the crew to run, as he is the new father figure. Some of the crew still stay with Rocks, (Silver Axe, Shiki, etc) while the rest run or get injured and escape on their way out of God Valley leaving Xebec for dead. Rocks does not look back at his crew, too focused on the upcoming battle with the marine hero and future pirate king in front of him.
Teach's fight with Kuzan revealed why Whitebeard, Kaido and Big Mom joined the Rocks pirates. All pirates need is alignment of interest. Does not matter if they like each other or have had conflicts in the past. While Luffy has formed alliances with Bege and Law, he only recruits people he likes and wants to call his friend. The BB pirates are not friends, they are accomplices. The same could be theorised about the Rocks.
I read a theory somewhere on Reddit and I can’t remember who said it … but the theory went that Rocks is Davy Jones because of how he sank with the Island … I forgot how it goes exactly but it was along those lines that Davy Jones and Rocks are the same person

Xebec (His crew was named after him.) *First Mate:* Edward "Whitebeard" Newgate (He was the second most powerful person on the crew, so it fits.) *Helmsman:* Shiki the Golden Lion (The wheel on his head kind of gives it away.) *Head Chef:* "Gourmet Knight" Streusen (He probably was a member of the Rocks Pirates, and was probably the head chef.) *Sous Chef:* Charlotte "Big Mom" Linlin (She would definitely held Streusen with his cooking, due to her obsession with food.) *Navigator:* John (He has a compass that leads to his treasure, implying that he was a skilled navigator.) *Marksman:* Wang Zhi (His namesake introduced guns and canons to Asia, so it would be fitting if he were a marksman.) *Shipwright:* Silver Axe (He's honestly the only one who would fit that role, because he'd probably be similar to Franky in some way.) *Doctor:* Buckingham Stussy (By process of elimination, she would honestly fit the best as the ship's doctor, which is kind of ironic since she's a vampire who sucks blood.) *Apprentice:* Kaido of the Beasts (It was stated in both the Manga and Anime that he was an apprentice on Rocks' ship, making him the lowest ranking member by far.)

All we know about Rocks is he probably had extremely powerful Conquerors Haki and probably a really Strong DF or maybe like Roger and Garp, he didn't have a Devil Fruit he was just that Strong.

I think that you don't get to have ppl like Kaido and Charlotte LinLin in YOUR crew if you don't have CoC aswell, and much stronger (at that time at least). Too much ambition to deal with if you yourself don't have an even bigger one, they would have never joined a captain weaker than them.
I totally see whitebeard reacting to Roger and Garp coming exactly as Mihawk did as Shanks landed on Marineford : "didn't sign for this" and proceed casually walk away
Whitebeard has definitely gone through some character development during his pirate career but I can see a fairly simple reason for willing to a part of the Rocks Pirates: to amass wealth to send back to his home island. We know, during his time as a Yonko, that is exactly what he did so he might have started doing so then
Even if he’s defrosted in he’s peak right after god valley, he’ll probably be given a Whitebeard moment where it’ll be said he has a heart condition, he isn’t feeling well, he has rogers decease, Covid, and didn’t woke up feeling it that day like Whitebeard. Sometimes I wonder if Blackbeard is his botched clone or a random orphan given his soul.
I flip flop between "Rox was stronger than prime Whitebeard" and "Rox was the old gen Buggy" basically every week at this point, and I still think it could go either way in the actual story.

Hi Tekking. Love the videos! My theory: You are spot on about the Rocks Pirates not working as a team. I bet at God Valley the Rocks Crew fought on their own, Shaky was probably injured but saved by Rayleigh, who knew she was not a bad person (Haki emotion sense or plain observation), resulting in them being a couple. They clashed several times before this. I bet Kaido just charged right in, being the beast he already was but waaay under prepared for Roger and Garp, so he lost quickly. Big mom, hating seeing children hurt (like we see from Otama) went to save him from his injuries by giving him his Devil fruit, which she had found at some point. Resulting in the life debt he owed her. They two then left the island, realizing the battle was lost. Whitebeard clashed with Roger as the always do as rivals and under his captains orders but when Stussy mark 1 try’s to jump in to help, she is taken out by Garp. This causes Whitebeard to jump to aid her, at which point Rocks tells him to leave her, as she is a weakling for falling to Garp. Whitebeard is enraged at this and states Rocks is not fit to be Captain and is not only losing the battle but his crew as well (aware of the retreat is Kaido and Big Mom, and Shakes defeat). Rocks takes this outburst as a sign of mutiny and attacks the surprised Whitebeard (who truly thought a Captain would not strike his first mate, naive as this was). This results in the massive scar on Whitebeard. (The one he tells Shanks during their meeting “Every time I see your face, it reminds me of the scar that bastard gave me.” Referring to Rocks, not Roger. From all the scenes we see with Roger and Whitebeard, we see them clash but no outward hostility in their eyes. This makes me think they are rivals testing each other and why they became friends of shorts. I don’t see Whitebeard calling Roger a bastard. Also he didn’t call Roger a bastard when talking to Ace his entire time. If anyone ahod remind him of “that bastards face” shouldn’t it be Ace, Rogers son and spitting image? That is why O think he was referring to Rocks. Now that leads me to the other theory. Shanks is in fact Rocks son. Because he reminds Whitebeard of the scar that bastard gave him. Shanks was also found at God Valley. Roger not blaming a child took shanks on his crew because he knew the marines would kill him, also why he later asked Garp to protect his unborn son and crimes of the father not carry to the son. Just my thoughts. No idea if you’ll see this but hope you do.

Interesting theory (17:50-19:00). Combining that with the D-theory (2 D's for every generation one is the Dusk and one is the Dawn{from Parvision, I think}). Could we think that maybe Joyboy was actually the Dusk like Rocks, a D that brings darkness, and mirrors the Dawn in every way except in the bond of their crew. Some one with good intentions but failed to pick their Nakama carefully leading to a betrayal and the leaders of the "new world" being assigned after this incident that no one involved wants to bring up in detail. Just putting this together since it seems like Blackbeard's crew seems to be foreshadowing the same series of events.

A main point you didn’t mention regarding if the rocks crew acted as Nakama they may have won, whitebeard is known to have switched sides and helped fight against other rocks members p.s also that flashback where whitebeard in his younger years on a pirate ship (presumably rocks) saying his treasure was family, which is probably why he went against rocks at god valley, or at least he always wanted a family rather then changing his mind fully at god valley
what if rock betrays everyone and slaughtered his whole crew and then sacrificed himself for the greater good because he deliberately formed a crew of a ton of bad guys to save the world and only left a few alive because he failed. Rocks is a true hero. I think my theory is valid.

For anyone looking to say “but Buggy!” Buggy is not the captain of the Cross Guild, but is rather more of a mascot. Crocodile and Mihawk seem to co-captain while using Buggy for his loyal men. edit: Cross Guild can barely even be considered a pirate crew, it’s more of an organization anyways (like the Revolutionary Army).

So the marines may as well think of him as the "captain" of the alliance. Said that clearly the marines also seem to think of Mihawk as the most dangerous power wise. Because he is not the yonko of the group but he has an even higher Bounty than the yonko...
This is just a head cannon of mine. I think I know who was the first person to turn tail and run during God Valley. It was Captain John, and his legendary treasure was not really his. At first he was all gung-ho about it, but when Garp and Roger starts to gained the upper hand. Captain John realized that there's no way Xebec could win this battle. Him and a couple of other pirates, maybe even Wang cahoots together and left the battle scene on Rocks own ship. In order to get away faster, they dropped all the tether boat. Linlin and Kaido could have used one of the tether boat to make their get away. All the treasures that the Rocks' crew had accumulated throughout the years is still on the ship. John dropped Wang off at Hachinosu and gave him 20% of the treasures. John went and hid the treasures before his own crew turn mutiny on him. He hid the treasure map and the armband compass at different location.
I can see a timeline where Xebec really did fly too close to the sun as sengoku said. He might have been the Dragon of the era but in a heinous way causing not only the navy but pirates to battle his group. Maybe it wasn't just garp and roger vs rocks pirates, maybe the god knights were involved and they fought against kaido, whitebeard, big mom and the rest. So maybe the reason they don't like to talk about the events because they know a little too much and dont want to intervene with the celestials.
I think you are right with the whiteboard stories to Blackbeard about rocks and Blackbeard is just trying to follow in his footsteps but correct rocks’ mistakes

It doesn't necessarily represent death where I'm from, but it more represents dead things; as they are well known for eating animals that have died and considered to kind of be dirty more than scary. Correction: It's the Black Vulture, but Turkey Vultures often mix with flocks of Blacl Vultures. I've also learned that black vultures kill baby animals... particularly calves... I've never seen this happen so purhaps they "mix" with thr turkey Vultures in others ways as well... or changed with time in specific regions to only eat dead things or dead and really small things like lizards

I find it an important detail is how much respect and honor guys like Roger, Rayleigh, Garp and Sengoku had for Whitebeard. It’s almost feels not everyone mutiny and Whitebeard might of joined with Roger and Garp and maybe fought Kaido and Big Mom or some other member. It probably was it’s own arc with every important character having a fight and in the end the Rocks pirates losing.
I’m going to give a brief explanation of my theory on how Whitebeard’s perspective on being a pirate changed at god valley:
I’d imagine that Whitebeard still viewed the Rocks pirates as family , but from the perspective of a son. I think it would be interesting if he was sort’ve similar to Weevil or Katakuri. It would be interesting if he was the loyal family member being used by the chaotic family members, who as a son he would not stand up to. I imagine that in the heat of God Valley, someone like Wang Zhi grabs Rocks by the shoulder begging him to have the crew retreat, and Rocks just cuts and kills Wang Zhi for interrupting his fight and continues to laugh and battle. This is where Whitebeard sees that the ‘father’ in the family he is in does not have any morals, making him abide by the pirate code and providing a structure for his future crew. In a last ditch effort of escape this is when Whitebeard yells for the crew to run, as he is the new father figure. Some of the crew still stay with Rocks, (Silver Axe, Shiki, etc) while the rest run or get injured and escape on their way out of God Valley leaving Xebec for dead. Rocks does not look back at his crew, too focused on the upcoming battle with the marine hero and future pirate king in front of him.
The idea of the heavy-hitters of Rocks crew noping out when faced by Garp, Roger and maybe their crews is hilarious.

Teach's fight with Kuzan revealed why Whitebeard, Kaido and Big Mom joined the Rocks pirates. All pirates need is alignment of interest. Does not matter if they like each other or have had conflicts in the past. While Luffy has formed alliances with Bege and Law, he only recruits people he likes and wants to call his friend. The BB pirates are not friends, they are accomplices. The same could be theorised about the Rocks.
I read a theory somewhere on Reddit and I can’t remember who said it … but the theory went that Rocks is Davy Jones because of how he sank with the Island … I forgot how it goes exactly but it was along those lines that Davy Jones and Rocks are the same person

*My Theory on Positions on the Rocks Crew:*
*Captain:* Rocks D. Xebec (His crew was named after him.)
*First Mate:* Edward "Whitebeard" Newgate (He was the second most powerful person on the crew, so it fits.)
*Helmsman:* Shiki the Golden Lion (The wheel on his head kind of gives it away.)
*Head Chef:* "Gourmet Knight" Streusen (He probably was a member of the Rocks Pirates, and was probably the head chef.)
*Sous Chef:* Charlotte "Big Mom" Linlin (She would definitely held Streusen with his cooking, due to her obsession with food.)
*Navigator:* John (He has a compass that leads to his treasure, implying that he was a skilled navigator.)
*Marksman:* Wang Zhi (His namesake introduced guns and canons to Asia, so it would be fitting if he were a marksman.)
*Shipwright:* Silver Axe (He's honestly the only one who would fit that role, because he'd probably be similar to Franky in some way.)
*Doctor:* Buckingham Stussy (By process of elimination, she would honestly fit the best as the ship's doctor, which is kind of ironic since she's a vampire who sucks blood.)
*Apprentice:* Kaido of the Beasts (It was stated in both the Manga and Anime that he was an apprentice on Rocks' ship, making him the lowest ranking member by far.)

All we know about Rocks is he probably had extremely powerful Conquerors Haki and probably a really Strong DF or maybe like Roger and Garp, he didn't have a Devil Fruit he was just that Strong.
He likely had both which would've been why they needed to team up for it.

I think that you don't get to have ppl like Kaido and Charlotte LinLin in YOUR crew if you don't have CoC aswell, and much stronger (at that time at least). Too much ambition to deal with if you yourself don't have an even bigger one, they would have never joined a captain weaker than them.

Whitebeard has definitely gone through some character development during his pirate career but I can see a fairly simple reason for willing to a part of the Rocks Pirates: to amass wealth to send back to his home island. We know, during his time as a Yonko, that is exactly what he did so he might have started doing so then

Even if he’s defrosted in he’s peak right after god valley, he’ll probably be given a Whitebeard moment where it’ll be said he has a heart condition, he isn’t feeling well, he has rogers decease, Covid, and didn’t woke up feeling it that day like Whitebeard.
Sometimes I wonder if Blackbeard is his botched clone or a random orphan given his soul.
I flip flop between "Rox was stronger than prime Whitebeard" and "Rox was the old gen Buggy" basically every week at this point, and I still think it could go either way in the actual story.

My theory:
You are spot on about the Rocks Pirates not working as a team.
I bet at God Valley the Rocks Crew fought on their own, Shaky was probably injured but saved by Rayleigh, who knew she was not a bad person (Haki emotion sense or plain observation), resulting in them being a couple. They clashed several times before this.
I bet Kaido just charged right in, being the beast he already was but waaay under prepared for Roger and Garp, so he lost quickly. Big mom, hating seeing children hurt (like we see from Otama) went to save him from his injuries by giving him his Devil fruit, which she had found at some point. Resulting in the life debt he owed her. They two then left the island, realizing the battle was lost.
Whitebeard clashed with Roger as the always do as rivals and under his captains orders but when Stussy mark 1 try’s to jump in to help, she is taken out by Garp. This causes Whitebeard to jump to aid her, at which point Rocks tells him to leave her, as she is a weakling for falling to Garp.
Whitebeard is enraged at this and states Rocks is not fit to be Captain and is not only losing the battle but his crew as well (aware of the retreat is Kaido and Big Mom, and Shakes defeat).
Rocks takes this outburst as a sign of mutiny and attacks the surprised Whitebeard (who truly thought a Captain would not strike his first mate, naive as this was). This results in the massive scar on Whitebeard. (The one he tells Shanks during their meeting “Every time I see your face, it reminds me of the scar that bastard gave me.” Referring to Rocks, not Roger. From all the scenes we see with Roger and Whitebeard, we see them clash but no outward hostility in their eyes. This makes me think they are rivals testing each other and why they became friends of shorts. I don’t see Whitebeard calling Roger a bastard. Also he didn’t call Roger a bastard when talking to Ace his entire time. If anyone ahod remind him of “that bastards face” shouldn’t it be Ace, Rogers son and spitting image? That is why O think he was referring to Rocks.
Now that leads me to the other theory. Shanks is in fact Rocks son. Because he reminds Whitebeard of the scar that bastard gave him. Shanks was also found at God Valley.
Roger not blaming a child took shanks on his crew because he knew the marines would kill him, also why he later asked Garp to protect his unborn son and crimes of the father not carry to the son.
Just my thoughts. No idea if you’ll see this but hope you do.

Interesting theory (17:50-19:00). Combining that with the D-theory (2 D's for every generation one is the Dusk and one is the Dawn{from Parvision, I think}).
Could we think that maybe Joyboy was actually the Dusk like Rocks, a D that brings darkness, and mirrors the Dawn in every way except in the bond of their crew.
Some one with good intentions but failed to pick their Nakama carefully leading to a betrayal and the leaders of the "new world" being assigned after this incident that no one involved wants to bring up in detail.
Just putting this together since it seems like Blackbeard's crew seems to be foreshadowing the same series of events.

A main point you didn’t mention regarding if the rocks crew acted as Nakama they may have won, whitebeard is known to have switched sides and helped fight against other rocks members p.s also that flashback where whitebeard in his younger years on a pirate ship (presumably rocks) saying his treasure was family, which is probably why he went against rocks at god valley, or at least he always wanted a family rather then changing his mind fully at god valley

For anyone looking to say “but Buggy!” Buggy is not the captain of the Cross Guild, but is rather more of a mascot. Crocodile and Mihawk seem to co-captain while using Buggy for his loyal men.
edit: Cross Guild can barely even be considered a pirate crew, it’s more of an organization anyways (like the Revolutionary Army).

So the marines may as well think of him as the "captain" of the alliance. Said that clearly the marines also seem to think of Mihawk as the most dangerous power wise. Because he is not the yonko of the group but he has an even higher Bounty than the yonko...
This is just a head cannon of mine. I think I know who was the first person to turn tail and run during God Valley. It was Captain John, and his legendary treasure was not really his. At first he was all gung-ho about it, but when Garp and Roger starts to gained the upper hand. Captain John realized that there's no way Xebec could win this battle. Him and a couple of other pirates, maybe even Wang cahoots together and left the battle scene on Rocks own ship. In order to get away faster, they dropped all the tether boat. Linlin and Kaido could have used one of the tether boat to make their get away. All the treasures that the Rocks' crew had accumulated throughout the years is still on the ship. John dropped Wang off at Hachinosu and gave him 20% of the treasures. John went and hid the treasures before his own crew turn mutiny on him. He hid the treasure map and the armband compass at different location.
I can see a timeline where Xebec really did fly too close to the sun as sengoku said. He might have been the Dragon of the era but in a heinous way causing not only the navy but pirates to battle his group. Maybe it wasn't just garp and roger vs rocks pirates, maybe the god knights were involved and they fought against kaido, whitebeard, big mom and the rest. So maybe the reason they don't like to talk about the events because they know a little too much and dont want to intervene with the celestials.

It doesn't necessarily represent death where I'm from, but it more represents dead things; as they are well known for eating animals that have died and considered to kind of be dirty more than scary.
Correction: It's the Black Vulture, but Turkey Vultures often mix with flocks of Blacl Vultures.
I've also learned that black vultures kill baby animals... particularly calves... I've never seen this happen so purhaps they "mix" with thr turkey Vultures in others ways as well... or changed with time in specific regions to only eat dead things or dead and really small things like lizards
