Mechamaru's secret weapon was that he imbued the charging tubes in his mecha with Simple Domain. Remember at the start he said he has 4 chances, meaning he has 4 of those tubes that can damage Mahito's actual soul. The first one he shoots thru Mahito's arm. The second he tries to shoot him again but Mahito activates his own domain expansion. The third one he used inside the domain to counter it and destroy Mahito. And the final one when he planned to strike him directly as a last resort but unfortunately he failed
Created as a counter for domain expansions, Simple Domain neutralizes a domain's guaranteed-hit function by affecting its barrier and not the imbued cursed technique (a little fella barrier inside a big fella barrier). However, against a proper domain expansion, Simple Domain can only hope to buy its user time. Powerful domains can destroy simple domains within seconds.
Honestly guys, Mahito's technique is just broken. Had Kokichi Muta fought any of the other antagonists we've been presented so far, he very likely would've won. Mahito was the worst matchup for Kokichi because you need to reach his soul to do any relevant damage. Of course Getou and the others knew about that, they probably chose Mahito to fight him for this very reason.
Don't worry, you won't underestimate him after this arc. Mahito is one of the strongest curses and he's one of the youngest. Therefore he's still growing and getting stronger
5:03 That actually did not damage him and he did not dodge it either he tanked it head on. Due to Mahitos soul manipulation he can fix any damage his body takes. Only damage done to his soul lasts. So only the simple domain attacks did any real damage. 11:28 yeah because that is not actually hurting his soul. The only times he stopped smiling was when his soul was damaged.
