According to the reasons that you mention, you could still be an audiophile but you just don’t wanna call yourself that. They won’t, but they sound pretty solid for the money, look good, and integrate well into a “whole home” audio setup. If you want the best possible sound in the price range, get dedicated bookshelf speakers, but the difference isn’t going to be massive, but definitely noticeable.

@@jameslee2215 I used to think like that 35 years ago and then quickly came to the conclusion that life is short holes be damned. Now I install these with both AC mains and LAN cables going in right behind the speaker as it's mounted to the wall. it really looks wireless without the wireless shortcomings.
Yes you can although I think you might need to use the app to set it up to your network first. I bought one for my office and this was the only way to set it up, once setup airplay off any phone worked 👍🏻

Does a pair of these sound better than lets say, a pair of edifier 1700? Or some 150ish bookshelf active speakers?

There are now floor stands from ikea.
Can you just connect it via AirPlay without the app?
