The Hmong dog is named after the Hmong people of Southeast Asia who use them to herd and guard. The photos shown are puppies though, so they don’t stay like that forever. Very smart dogs.
My grandma had one of the last dogs, I adored him, I didn't get to know him long before he passed due to old age, but he was great, loved braiding his dreads lol

The Komondor is not a breed for most people. I’ve had two and they need a lot of proper socialization and a job to do to be happy. They are livestock guardians. Not a normal pet. Beware. That being said I miss them, they were awesome dogs to our family!
For those curious: The Hmong Dog isn't recognized by the American Kennel Club because there literally aren't enough of them in the US to determine what a "quality" Hmong Dog looks like. If that sounds dumb, that's because the American Kennel Club is, in fact, pretty dumb.
That’s not the reason they’re not recognized. They’re not FCI yet, a lot more goes into recognition than quantity. Luckily the recent 4 imports will kick off the foundations for the breed here. Our breed club site (Hmong Bobtail club of America) is a great source to learn from!💕
Vietnamese here. We actually recognized up to 4 dog breeds as national breed including: Bắc Hà, Lài (Dingo Đông Phương), Hmong and Phú Quốc (which is actually popularly known than the rest). Most of them are breed to hunt and known for their intelligence and loyalty so people here keep them to guard or to train to aid the police. But since the Vietnamese are quite bad at "marketing" them and present these babies to the world, these breed became a niche for the dog lovers.
i think just the west doesn’t know much about asian dog breeds in general and not that vietnamese have been bad at marketing them. like im pretty sure most people in america do not know about the the korean Jindo dog 👀

That is Chinese dog, in chinese it is 中华/Chinese 田园/countryside 犬/dog. That dog doesn't represent Hmong, the 下司犬 does. The Chinese dog comes from north China, not Hmong.

People in Vietnam also call 1st dog "tailess hmong" cus their tail is very short, those dogs got the name Hmong because they was breed and raise mainly by an ethnic minority called Hmong in VietNam, In case you don't know, Vietnam has many different ethnic minorities.

A lot of breeds are rarer than komondors (est 100,000 worldwide. Silken windhounds for example have less than 3,000 worldwide. I thought of them off the top of my head because I have one.

XL Bullies are a type not breed as as Am Staff, SBT and Pitbull are types. American Bully is a breed and the Pitbull/ Staffords are part of the Staffordshire Terrier breed.

Most dog owners of any breed tend to get what's called pet cuts for ease of maintaining it. Bedlingtons were originally sheep guard dogs meant to alert the Shepard of threats to the flock. So the cut was meant to make them look more like a lamb to help them blend in with the flock. They are an absolutely lovely breed if trained properly and socialized early.
