Academy Award nominated actress Kristen Stewart and director/screenwriter Rose Glass sit down with Annefleur Schipper and Vera Siemons from the Dutch 'Lesbische Liga Podcast' to talk about everything sapphic and popculture related and to ofcourse discuss their mind-blowing new A24 movie 'Love Lies Bleeding'.
From the amazing outfits and styling in Glass' film, to the shots of biceps and muscles on women, the term muscle mommy, the chemistry between Katy M. O'Brian and Kristen Stewart, the intimate scenes and how different they are then other queer intimate scenes we see on screen, talking during intimate scenes and getting real in those scenes, to the set-dressing and creating an authentic and genuine character through Lou's outfits and clothes. Something which Kristen Stewart hasn't always had the freedom to do, because male studioheads limited her vision and knowledge about the queer experience, even in the queer films she's been in, she says here. The two also talk about the unease that some male viewers have when seeing the movie, the male versus female gaze, the portrayal of female desire and lust and about going further than other lesbian period dramas that are somewhat demure but more palatable to a mainstream audience.
During the interview Kristen Stewart and Rose Glass also play a game of GOOD GIRL VS BAD GIRL, where Annefleur and Vera of De Lesbische Liga ask them to rate some sapphic/queer canon events by either deeming them good (Good Girl) or bad (Bad Girl).
Kristen Stewart talks about coming out on Saturday Night Live years ago but also about Renee Rapp coming out on SNL recently, they talk about The L Word, Paul Verhoeven's Benedetta, Thelma & Louise, Aubrey Plaza and Drew Barrymore saying 'mommy' to each other, about the meme 'A Negroni Sbagliato With Prosecco In It', Killing Eve, Villanelle and Eve, and about queer women not making a move on a date and much more.
    ❯ About Love Lies Bleeding
Love Lies Bleeding is an intense, queer, unconventional love story between two unstable people. Directed and written by Rose Glass and Weronika Tofilska, and stars Kristen Stewart, Katy O’Brian, Ed Harris, Dave Franco, Jena Malone and Anna Baryshinkov. The film explores the destructive nature of relationships, marked by strong performances and a visually arresting narrative.
Lou (Stewart) meets Jackie (O’Brian) at the gym her father owns and is instantly smitten. Jackie is charming, looks great, and isn’t afraid to confront a man that gets in her space. This is something Lou witnesses first-hand, as Jackie whacks one of the gym patrons in the face when he gets a little too friendly. After their sex-filled rendezvous (yes, they moved that fast), Lou discovers her new girlfriend works at her father Lou Sr.’s (Harris) gun range. Needing a place to stay, Jackie asks if she could stay with Lou until she makes enough money to move on to a bodybuilding competition in Las Vegas. The aspiring body builder discovers her new lover’s family is a broken one. Lou Sr. is the town’s most feared man, while Lou’s brother-in-law, JJ (Franco), and Lou’s sister Beth (Malone) have a marriage so volatile that it becomes the film’s reasoning for why all hell breaks loose. Surprising use of the word "race". But, on another subject, did you notice how unzeitgenösse or unmatched era the Geist of the film and the dialogue were to the time it took place in terms of the physical environment of 89'? It was science fiction.
