Same here Sara... I loved writing my own songs in the basement... taking lessons was DEPRESSING - no magic.
Nothing like hearing brilliant people talking about their work and artistry. Love it
It's so heartwarming to see a conversation between friends who are also brilliant musicians! Thank you, Ben and Sara, for sharing. ("You don't have to be sorry... Unless you meant to do me wrong.")
Okay this is epic
Sara has such a beautiful smile.
Wonderful conversation! I’ve loved Sara’s music but didn’t realize how wide ranging her talents are. For me, creativity comes both from and through me - and doing something meditative (to quiet the monkey mind a bit) like washing dishes, showering, mowing in circles for an hour, or driving a long stretch of road, opens me up to ideas bubbling up and coalescing. Thank you so much for talking about being a woman in an industry whose power positions are predominantly held by men. Been there, done that. And the song you two made is great! Here’s my spin- “You don’t have to be sorry. The space you take is hallowed ground.”
I got the chance, many times, to sneak up on Ben pre show in the 90s... and bother preshow. He is everything genuine. No matter when, he always makes me feel good. You kick ass too!!! Do it!
Are you a member of his Patreon? If not, you should consider. He has chats, music appreciation and song writer’s class. He is so down to earth and SOOOO funny!
These two need to record an album and go on tour together. I would pay to see that.
Interesting interview/conversation. I liked Sara’s comments around taking a breath and finishing something.
My two favorite artists getting deep about the magic and complexities of music! Couldn't ask for more!
But would love to hear some more! So before watching another episode - Ima go put on "Once Upon Another Time" again!
Both of you are sooooo inspiring! Been listening to Ben since the beginning. Have all the albums, read the book, always coming up with something new and interesting. Love hearing interviews with creatives! And this one is special! Thank you both!!!
This is GENIUS!! Love it!
Sooooo glad to find this!! Thank you! Such huge fans of both of you.
so excited to watch 😁
“You don’t have to be sorry,”random jam, is the most profound fucking thing that has ever happened in my life.
So many of us do funny shit like this in our heads during conversations at thanksgiving and children’s birthday parties and funerals, but Sara said finish something and now we have a tangible form of it.
Y’all have been my inspirations since… well that’s not important. I love you kids.
Great Conversation! I loved the song at the end!
Excellent conversation! Thank you!!
smoke and bright lights and cityscapes are two of my favorites
Thank you
I made this comment for other episodes, and I have to do it for this one as well... I LOVE IT!!!
Sara is a terrific singer and composer
Fricking LOVED that!
totally right about meditation and appreciate being a creature
Nice job!
From Say You’re Sorry to You Don’t Have to be Sorry 👏 😂
Constructive comment on video/audio ... while the audio was off at times (think old Godzilla movie), Ben's video was CRISSSSPY SHARP.
Keith green was my fave piano player
Podrías traducirlo hay hispanohablantes que te admiran uwu
I don't think Ben folds would have ever written the song Brick about his former relationship with Sara
Why does shecsay no one needs to hear about a kid singing about tgeur special place..that sounds nice and sweet and maybe inspiring and insightful? Just wondering...thanks for sharing
I think it she was coming from a humorous/inappropriate standpoint because sometimes people call their genital areas their “special place.”
chewing into stale bread?.. hell I've done that my whole life!
Ray Kroc was a 52 year old diabetic with arthritis before he took over McDonald's. Anything is possible there are no rules.
maybe ray Kroc wanted to give everybody diabetes in purpose?!
Wow Dan Folds... Amazing did you realize you just basically called her a liar saying she started writing at 6? I image blah blah blah and "who knows if they were original? what a butt move that was.
Why did she start quite a bit later?
Pills are calling call me later Josh BW
if Cher had a brain and was funner
Thank you for posting. When you have a second, I'm an indie pop singer and I have uploaded a new original song on my page. As a fellow music lover, I'd love if you would check it out. Hope you enjoy!
Sucks she had to read what she said.. Though these two would be better....
