I’ve owned this model XC90, lift the bonnet. You will see two metal taps on the headlights. Pull them both up, then pull the light. Yes, that’s how easy it is to remove them. Literally takes seconds, you then cleaned up, get them ceramic coated, job done, for very little money👍
Fantastic transformation on the car what both Topaz & yourself have done Joel. I really like this kind of video as I’m sure I’ve previously told you. In regards to the paint pen writing on the window screen I normally just use a Stanley knife blade & hold just the bare blade between my thumb & index finger whilst going back & forth on the glass at a 45 degree angle with a mist of water on the screen at the same time to remove the markings. Really enjoyed this upload just like the others you produce. All the best.
Joel, that was beautiful but this needs a part 2 video. New reg plates, clay and machine polish the paint and headlights..... and use an acid based wheel cleaner on them rims, they will come up better. Those mats are standard on the Executive model cars ;)
I think you're on the money - a good wheel cleaner like Autoglym Magma should make a lot of difference and machine polishing will get rid of some of those scuff marks at the very least.
A good detailing makes a huge difference and is probably a very cost effective way of boosting a car's value. I do like a Swedish car (I owned a couple of Saabs in the past and found them to be excellent).
I bought the exact SUV. I will detail it this year as I bought it in October colder weather already. It is a beast. So comfortable to drive. I can hardly wait to clean the shiny leather back to softness. The plastic on the outside appears faded grey. I bought black plastic restore but Im thinking they are supposed to be grey now. Not sure. The handles are the plastic on mine as well but other than that they are twins. So beautiful. I have some scratches too that Im hoping I can polish out as soon as the weather decides what its doing. Don't forget to change the cabin filter for freshness. Cheers from Canada.
These are the kind of cars I loved doing back in the day. Part of the extra cost of prestige/ higher end cars is in the materials they use. Carpets are deeper pile, leather and plastics ect are just better quality, and because of this they don't wear anywhere near as quickly and always clean up really well. This one is a great example of it too 👍
I get quite addicted to restoration projects. Seeing how nicely it's cleaned up, I'd go all out personally - though admit it would make no sense on a purely financial front. I'd suggest you try and find a wheel restoration place to "partner" with... RRT, Posh Wash, WheelWorx etc. Get those fully restored, SambosTyres or such for a new full set. A dent/smart repair type service to sort out your panel damage and paint... Gotta leverage that RUclips status dude, don't pay out of pocket where possible. Naturally I'd want to get that headlining replaced/repaired and I'd also want a new set of keys so there is always a working spare. One worn key always makes me sweat! 😅 At that point Engine Service, Gearbox Service, MOT, probably a Carbon Clean & Remap by AutoTechCC and entertainment system repair by a good Volvo specialist such as Charlwood Automotive (used them recently and rate) as these do usually have killer sound systems. Then you'd have yourself a surperb family car, rescued from the scrapyard, at least until the ULEZ extension happens - assuming you and Katy aren't moving to Norfolk or somewhere remote!
When I was a coach driver, I decided to clean the wheels. I thought it was a steel wheel, and once I found the chrome underneath I decided all 6 wheels needed bringing back. My secret...... Good scrub and clean 1st then cover in tomato ketchup. Leave for a bit and work it in. Add some water to not dry it out and keep scrubbing and then wash clean. You be surprised at how well they will come out.
Interesting indicator lens on the passenger wing. Is this because of the broken wing mirror? I’m sure it would be easier to fit a 2nd hand mirror from a breakers yard.
The indicator on the wing is messing with my mind. This model is too early for the indicator in the mirror.....it should be on the door trim. However the door trim does not have one? Perhaps was a replacement door at some stage?
the previous owner commented on the last video and mentioned the indicator, although I didn't quite understand what he was saying... It's some sort of bodge job
Hey mate, I remember having a battered Vw Touareg in blue, it was awful but utterly immaculate inside, So I Matt blackened roller painted it smoked all the lamps retuned the wheels in high gloss black and stuck all terrains in it with a mad roof rack… it looked utterly epic and everyone loved it….. just a though buddy😅😅😅😅😅😅
Looks really well now. I was given a 2005 BMW X5 last year, he just wanted it moved as he was building a new garage and it had been sat there since 2018. It honestly looked as if wildlife had used it as a hotel until it got so bad that they evacuated 😂😂 I spent almost a week cleaning it and it came up like new, even the bodywork was fantastic. I took it for MOT and all it failed on was the handbrake so I got a used one fitted that and ran it for 12 months and sold it for £2550. It was a great car but I wanted another Audi TT so got one with the cash I made. If I could do that every time I'd be rich 😂😂😂👍
The car looks good but you should watch legit streets car’s tutorial on how to remove the key scratches. He had a much worse situation with his auction alpina b7 with having key scratches all over the car, and after his pretty cheap fix, it looks really good! It would make great content btw!
Good video. Perhaps a machine polish next.. p.s. pity that valeter didn't have any weed killer on board. He could have done the pavement and verge the same time
I'm on my second XC90, had the later Euro 4 D5 and now have the V8 petrol. Great cars. What's with the aftermarket (stick-on?) indicator repeater on the passenger side front wing? Does it actually work, or is it hiding something?
I have no idea, I'd really love to find out - The previous owner commented on the last video with this car and said something to do with it being because they couldn't find a painted original, but I didn't quite understand...
If they're split rim wheels the cost to refurb may end up being pretty much double the standard rate since shops don't like the risk of snapping the bolts when splitting them plus its time consuming. I got quoted £600 to refurb my z4's 108 wheels!!
Came back brilliantly! I like the mid week video too. I don’t live too far from you. I need to get all 4 alloys refurbished on my SL55. Can you recommend anywhere?
The chemical guys make a headlight restorer. It works really good. I used it on my Volvo C70 lights that will all foggy like that and made them look brand new. It only cost $12 on Amazon

By the sound of it, you would have paid £500 for 'those lovely green carpets" alone 😂 It came up very well! A lot of well engineered car for the money!
You keep talking about the green mats. But, is it possible that the mats were originally black but have faded to green? It doesn’t seem to make sense in a black interior for one single aspect of the interior to have a different color. Plus I have seen black carpets fade to green before.
It was definitely worth cleaning. 300K miles is nothing for a Volvo. My own XC90 has about half the mileage so barely run in. You've taken 20 years off it 😆 You've just increased your chances of getting it throught the MoT just by cleaning it. Those mats are either factory or custom made as they engage with the studs in the carpet. I damaged my passenger door mirror and I recently did a video on how to change it. Some T-Cut should help in getting the worst of the inragined grime off the wheels.
Fix it up Joel. It’s a nice car and much better than the Range Rovers you had. Worth replacing the mirror, looking for replacement wheels (those ones look a pain to clean) and then see if you can source a couple of new doors. Worst case scenario you could either get it resprayed or perhaps this one is the perfect candidate for a wrap. Look forward to more videos. Ps do you still have the jaguar ?
As to whether it was worthwhile getting a clean like that on a car of such low value, it all depends on the cost. I should imagine a clean like that would be close to if not more than 1k?
A guy your age, wearing flip-flops with socks & raving about an old Volvo?!? What's happened to the world...😂 - cracking resurrection job though, looking forward to the next.
Scratches, wing mirror and roof lining are devaluing the car. You can polish a turd after all but it’s still a turd. Get those bits done and a replacement drinks holder cover and you’re looking at £1200-1350. The mileage doesn’t matter when it’s that high if you have service history and DIY receipts. I’d expect with that high mileage an extended lack of service stamps covered by DIY service parts and fluids.
I can remember the good ol days of the internet when someone would post a picture of their pussy (stuck in a tree) and people would get all excited. Now its got me watching people clean stuff. What's happened to us? 😅 Good work as always Joel.
You should be able to get plenty of content out of this so I’d be surprised if you didn’t invest a few quid in improving it. The interior wood centre console, a DIY headlining. Then a set of tyres and a wheel refurb along with headlights, new plates and a good polish would transform it. Also please service it and the gearbox to prolong its life. I don’t understand why you don’t service your cars when you buy them!
I'd really love to restore this one, I'm having a full inspection done first before spening a ton of money, just in case it's hiding something truly catastrophic
@@itsjoelIt doesn’t even need a restoration, you could spend a £1000 on it and still get your money back once done, as well as get great relatable content out!
Soooooo, what do you think? Worth Cleaning?
Volvos are always worth cleaning. I washed my V50 T5 last weekend. I find it very therapeutic.
💯
I just did a full paint correction on our 223 693 mile 2007 XC90 and I think it's worth it. Never seen such high quality paint though
Based on the color of the car you might be able to use touch up paint to move some of the scratches, but you got to be very careful when you do so
To remove the scratches on the car. based on the color of the car. I think touch up paint will just blend in
I’ve owned this model XC90, lift the bonnet. You will see two metal taps on the headlights.
Pull them both up, then pull the light.
Yes, that’s how easy it is to remove them.
Literally takes seconds, you then cleaned up, get them ceramic coated, job done, for very little money👍
Love these. Probably the best family car ever made in my opinion
As a owner of a XC60 , 2019, you can see the Volvo quality coming through one of the best made cars in the world.
Is quite remarkable how well built these things seem to be
Can’t stress how much that deep clean helped, a new set of reg plates, wheel refurb and headlights sorted would lift it enormously
You do love the green carpets Joel lol looks loads better now it's cleaned up
It’s crying out for a part 2 inc wheel refurb, machine polish, mirror and trim works.
Next episode....Joel cutting the grass around his parking space which hasn't been cut for 20 years 😲

Great clean up job, a transformation, I think I would re dye the lambs wool mats, possibly dark green, graphite or dark blue?
A polish and a restoration project would be cool 👌

great JOB!!!! the before and after!!! JUST EPIC
Hang on to that Wilko carrier bag Joel, will be a collector's item eventually! 😂
I was a bit unsure by the end whether you were pleased with the green carpet mats? 😂 What a difference. Great detailing company.
Great content as usual 👍
Next video should be a gardening one to clear all the weeds away from the car parking space 😂
Coming soon to "gardening with Joel" In all seriousness, I/we probably weed there every 2 weeks, it's a never ending task
That's fantastic hope you get it through the MOT.
Definitely worth it, I love it! Going to be a fun series with the XC90! ❤
They’re definitely factory OEM carpet mats as I have them in my 2007 xc90 executive model. Love your videos.
Try Nitromors rust remover on the alloys, worked for me.

to clean the wheels get a old/new electric tooth brush ?
Petrol 3.2 or diesel?
