- Gather your masks and get ready for the big giveaway at 9! Halloween 3: Season of the Witch was an attempt to take the Halloween franchise away from Michael Myers and become a horror anthology series. Initially fans despised and denounced Season of the Witch but over the years it has gained a sizable cult following. Do I fall on the side of hate or defense of this red-headed step child of the Halloween franchise?

Shit happens. Editing goof at 4:40. No need to comment 100 times telling me. Call it a free laugh! Lol
Cody Leach happens to almost everybody who makes RUclips videos, man don’t sweat it. Still a great review 👍
I was like "Mini Seizure? Maybe I should point that out to him, he may be in trouble and not even know it, or maybe he's high and lost his train of though".Either way, Glad it was just an editing error. Be well.
Don’t worry man happens to everybody
Don't worry, Cody, I've seen worse. Still loved the review.
Newly subscribed. Love the channel and the videos..Keep up the good work..
I feel like if halloween 2 wasn’t made and we got season of the witch people would have been open to the anthology series. As much as I love Halloween 2 the first one should have been a movie by itself
I agree. The second one felt like such a big part of the series that by part 3, people emotionally saw the series as The Michael Myers series, not an anthology series, like Twilight.
I honestly don't care for Halloween II too much, and having rewatched Season of the Witch the other day, I totally agree with you
Goku Black Yeah definitely. Originally the first movie was called "The Babysitter Murders", but Hollywood always happens so Halloween was the end name.
@Tom Ffrench watch it man
Goku Black There alway found werid ish When movie series try to do ( the mcu does not count ) ( same with Quentin Tarantino) or movie series that is sequel to movie that have nothing to do with the First movie is so Many to count and say just Google up alway Fails but video game silent hill bioshock far cry do it people like it
Halloween 3: Season of The Witch is an underrated Gem.
It’s a Masterpiece
@@batassassin7060 it is far from a masterpiece
Yeah I call BS
@@batassassin7060I wouldn't go that far
a great gem, never understood the hate.
"Sometimes kids need to die"

The greatest quote of this year. LOL.
I second that!!
Criminally underrated installment. Tom Atkins played a great character, that family death scene was very disturbing they Actually broke that taboo of kids dying lol
Esau Pyramid I personally understand the appeal I just don’t like that type of genre
@@cormacdrakeford1539 then why are you watching a horror movie review

She absolutely gorgeous inn this film
Very true.
Whenever I watch these Halloween series reviews on RUclips, the first thing I do is watch the Halloween 3 review. If the host liked it, I watch the rest because it tells me they get it. Good stuff.
Colonel Cochran causes Cody to screw up at 4:40.
Yep. Pissed. I couldn't proof watch it because of everything going on in the house and rolled the dice. Need a new laptop so bad so I can finally proof watch inside of Adobe before exporting. 😭
Hi Drumdums how are you
I seriously thought u did that on purpose lmao until I read the comments 😅😂 , I love season of the witch , I agree that the title killed this easy , I even think calling it October 31st would have been cool, my only issue is how did they turn the girl into a fembot ??
A classic 80s horror. Love the movie, the soundtrack, the atmosphere, it's just all good.
@brett linthicum Why? He's right!
This is the Halloween movie underdog that is a grossly underrated classic on it's own merit. It's a shame that they didn't call it something else and cut it away from the rest of the franchise.
Is that Lee’s voice in the intros asking the questions 😂 hilarious openings for your reviews, love them haha
Yes it is
That's why he's called leemis
As probably one of the oldest Cody, fans, I remember watching Halloween III: Season Of the Witch when it came on Prism and HBO, back when we had 35 channels on Cable! I loved it from my first viewing! I already knew no Michael Myers, so I didn’t feel jilted. I could see how some may have, but we all knew within three days, there was no Michael, hence why it did so poorly at the box office. But I loved it and I loved the fact that other people would hate on it, it made it my movie and I was a real horror fan and not like the Posers that said they liked horror. The negatives definitely are there but the positives totally out weigh the negatives. Thanks for a great review, Cody.
I agree it's an underrated movie and that cliffhanger ending was great. Just hearing Tom Atkins scream in desperation for the commercial to be taken off is just chilling.
A brilliant movie and the last Halloween entry to have that typical Carpenter feel.
There's actually another ending where it's not such a cliffhanger with kids screaming.
Criminally underrated and unfairly hated. Should it have been its own film, simply titled Season of the Witch? No question. But i never understood hating it just because it wasnt a canonical Halloween Film. A good way to look at it, is that John Carpenter was trying to basically build Trick R Treat (2007) 25 years earlier and spanned thru a franchise instead of one film
Yep people need to give it a chance and quit bitching.
That's a perfect way of looking at it. Trick R Treat and H3: Season of the Witch are both movies that have the most Halloween (the holiday) atmosphere.
I saw H3 on HBO, on Halloween night 1983 and got hooked!!! While Michael Meyers was missed, I loved the new direction. I just always wondered why they did tie the movies together a little better, like Michael Meyers mask was a Silver Shamrock prototype or something which is how he became so indestructible.
That's so funny, I used to have that same idea back as a child and I totally forgot about it!
Happy Happy Halloween Silver Shamrok! Awesome Review!
That song will be in my head for a weak now 😂
This movie is so underrated and it deserves so much more love. It's classic and original and probably one of my favourites. I don't understand how people hate it because Michael isn't in it. I love this movie not my fav tho
Just gave the movie a try and really liked it. The score feels iconic, the kills are so damn brutal, and overall is a gripping experience.
I love this movie. It's a bit silly at times but it has a hell of a creepy atmosphere, phenomenal cinematography, amazing score, super original ideas even if they don't always work and for me it is a must watch every October 31st. Easily one of my favorite sequels of the franchise.
The intro computer generated pumpkin was the first CGI really put on the big screen besides Tron
Omfg I took your advice and actually watched this for the first time with the mindset that it's not supposed to be about michael and that story and I am so glad that I did!!! This movie is the shit the score and cinematography is so good and really feels like the first and second halloween in it's own creepy different way! Definitely a fav of mine now wow I can't believe it took me this long thanks man your review literally changed my outlook completely and now this movie will be a October regular 🙏🤙🙏🤙
Tommy Lee Wallace also directed Fright Night 2 (1988) and Vampires : Los Muertos (2002) among others
Winston Jaquez I like those movies as well
This movie is extremely underrated. It was so ahead of it's time in so many ways. This movie has robot transhumanism, the digital/computer age, surveillance tech, corporate conspiracy, satanic ritual practice, microchips, archaeological sites and equatorial energy, etc. Not too mention Cochrane looks identical to Lord Jacob's Rothschild! Or Mr Burns from simpsons. Which is PERFECT considering the plot lol. But he really is great in this role, the evil smile and slow clap gets me everytime. All with John Carpenter's synths in the background. I love this movie and could go on forever, great review btw.
Imagine if Micheal had a post credit scene in this movie
I don't think marvel post credit scenes were a thing in the 80s
Halloween III is one of those flicks that gets hated for the wrong reasons.
It is the most hated halloween film ever
@@aydenbaldwin3041 and its my absolute favorite with the most Halloween (the holiday) 'feel' of any of them.
@@rufussamsquanch_6547 Halloween 3 is my 2nd favorite of the franchise and the original is my number 1
Yeah I don’t understand why they just didn’t continue doing them with different stories. I think people would have came around if they explained to the public better what they were trying to do.
@@aydenbaldwin3041 tell that to Ressurection
"Ellie" was a '80's cutie , huh ??
I watch it today for the first time...
And after the movie, i was thinking that too.... 😌
This is my favourite Halloween movie by a mile, I love the story, I love how absolutely Halloween it feels as a film and the score is amazing, I never got all the hate and it's only made me smile seeing how people are coming around to what a great flick this is years later because for a good few years after this came out, it was reviled.
Ive always had mad love for this movie. Before I knew about the anthology concept, I always saw it as a stand alone movie.
It scratches every itch I have when watching horror movies.
Thank you for mentioning how bad ass the score is. This and “The Fog,” are absolutely incredible. Hearing them transforms me back to 1980s memories almost instantly.
Not just the scores, but the cinematography on those films were incredible as well. Dean Cundey did an amazing job.
This doesn't really even deserve to be in the same sentence as the fog, the fog is a absolute classic, has good atmosphere and tension, this film is OK but hardly a classic
That intro was awesome. Have you ever thought of colabing with WWAM???
Were both together on Hallowstream but no I've never approached them about a collab.

Oh alright.
Cody much like you I avoided this movie. I've been a Halloween fan since the late 80s and never watched this movie until 2005. I was on short term disability from work got bored rented it loved it kick myself in the ass because I avoid it for 15 years. Like you as well I would love now to have seen what they would have done for an anthology series every Halloween. Anyways great review you're awesome keep it up man.🎃🎃🎃🎃🤘🤘
Hey Cody, great review. I myself love Halloween 3. I agree with most of your points to the film and really enjoy your humor as well.
Season of the Witch is an AWESOME movie. It’s original and the atmosphere is absolutely fantastic.
I agree, his motivation is as I believe Cinema Sins calls it, "The power of the boner". 😉😂 And rumors that I heard, not sure if it was true, but the ending was planned to be even darker with hearing kids scream out right as the credits hit. And Cochran, that guy, I said it before, he's a Bond level villain IMO. Anyways, thank you, Cody! 👍😀
You’re right it was going to have that darker ending with the kids screaming instead of the music playing over the end credits. Would have been an interesting thing to put on the DVD as an alternate end.
The night no one came home 🎃
I thought the oldman was being chased by Michael Myers in the beginning. I have the feeling most of the people in the theater felt the same way.
This an awesome movie, so creative and unique, the kills are BRUTAL as hell, the score is badass, the characters are great, great villain, an overall BADASS and criminally underrated
The score for season of the witch is what pulled me in. I remember the movie being on tv (on amc if I correctly remember) and me waking up from a nap hearing the music. I can't describe how awesome I thought it sounded. At that time I had started producing music a year earlier and I began incorporating long synth cords because of this movie. Fucking brilliant movie. Possibly my favorite Halloween besides the original. Another positive is that it's based in Northern California. Any movie based in Nor Cal gets a bonus from me Lol
Love the score!
Not to me. I still did not like "Halloween III" at all. And I think there is a lot of negatives than that. There was one scene at the test room where a kid wears a pumpkin mask and that commercial starts, it literally kills him and released bugs, well, maybe bug was not a choice, but snakes, not a good idea. That’s a big definite no, no. It makes me vomited so bad. If I were these people, I would never, ever, watch this piece of trash. Turn around, walk away, and never look back. No ranking, no positive reviews. I was so disappointed, but very grossed out. Sorry, Cody, but I think it is a totally forgettable. I'm strongly skipping "Halloween III: Season of the Witch".
Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982) - SKIP IT
I agree I was so disappointed when I saw this movie. Shouldn't even be apart of the Halloween franchise
Personally I love this movie. It was different and even creative, definitely better than crappy part 6 and Resurrection
Yeah. Halloween 6 sucks and is overrated. Halloween is also underrated.
Halloween 3 is nowhere near as good as Resurrection
suny123boy1 Resurrection is infinitely better than H3
If you say it is bad because their is no michael myers you need to go fuck yourself
@@PinocchioDread where do you get the drugs you are on because I sure as fuck need some of that trippy shit to deal with life these days. You've lost it bruh.
I agree with you. I actually really enjoyed this movie. I wonder where the series would have went if it were an anthology series.
Great review Cody & I completely agree with you Halloween III is criminally underrated...
But I'm surprised you didn't mention this film's direct connection to the other two Halloween films and Invasion Of The Body Snatchers as well as other tidbits in your review Cody...
Such as...
*The woman who plays Tom Atkins ex-wife in the film is Nancy Loomis (who played Annie in Halloween 1 & II. Plus she was also married to the director Tommy Lee Wallace at the time).
*Michael Myers is REALLY in the film. In the bar scene, on the TV they show a trailer for the original Halloween (& there is Michael walking down the stairs after Laurie in the trailer).
*Jamie Lee Curtis is also in the film. Her voice is the announcer telling everyone about the "curfew", she is the voice of the telephone operator "who cannot complete this call" & a clip of her is played on the TV from the original Halloween (when Cochran tells Tom Atkins his evil plan).
*Dick Warlock (who played Michael Myers in Halloween II) is one of the drone figures.
*Tom Atkins real life wife played the woman who fiddled around with the Sliver Shamrock button & died.
*The drone blood used in the film is actually orange juice.
*The town of Santa Mira is the same town name of the one used in the classic Invasion Of The Body Snatchers.
*The unemotional drones are inspired by & in homage to the pod people from Invasion Of The Body Snatchers.
*The actor playing Cochran, in real life, really is Irish and does come from that Celtic background.
*The gas station at the beginning of the film is the exact same one Tom Atkins ends up at the end of the movie.
*There was a total of three endings that were actually shot, according to Tom Atkins. Director Tommy Lee Wallace wanted options, so they shot it in different ways. A happy ending where he stops all the TV broadcasts, a ambiguous ending where no one knew if he did stop the TV broadcasts at all & the ending which is actually in the final film. That ending was chosen because the director Tommy Lee Wallace wanted to do an atypical ending than what audiences would expect & not be a standard type of cliched horror movie ending. Tom Atkins himself had no idea what ending was used until he saw the final film when it was released with an audience.
Those are all awesome facts just not enough time to name everything in a review. Gotta stay concise.
I get ya. Don't want the reviews to be 5 hours long or something, lol jk. (Although I'm just twisted enough that I could probably watch a 5 hr long review from you - if it was on a franchise or something like that all edited together).
BTW, I should mention there is a limited HD blu-ray steelbook edition of Halloween III by Scream Factory coming out soon. You might want to pick up a copy before they're all gone (if you haven't already).
Can't wait to hear your thoughts & review on Halloween 4. Keep up the awesome videos dude 😎👍
This comment should get pinned. I enjoyed the trivia👍🏼
Indeed Wes (and that is also what makes is a cult classic) but I think a lot of that is apparent from both opening credits of the film & what Cody says in his video. Carpenter rocks. 😎👍
Halloween 3 is very underrated and i do like that they went off in another direction. I kind of wish there was a separate Halloween Anthology that continued after Halloween 3
I watched this for the first time this year and really enjoyed it. It's getting unnecessary hate for sure.
season of the witch, a halloween story.
As a long time fan of this movie, I'm really glad this movie has been getting the recognition it deserves over the past few years. Along with the original, it is the most Halloween feeling movie of all time.
What a delight wife and I checked for you to have reviewed this on a whim and BAM there we go :). We too always liked this but understood we were in the minority :) nice to see your thoughts on this and even better to find out you liked it too :). This was a good night. Hope your weekend was a fun one Cody :)
No convincing needed this movie is a staple for me every October since i ran across it on AMC like 20 years ago
I like your beanie, cody
EXCELLENT review!!! I've loved H3 since it scared the crap outta me as a kid on vhs lol it's my favourite Horror movie & EASILY my fave of the franchise!!! Tom Atkins is a legend love the guy & love his Dan Challis character so much
Second favorite film in the franchise.
One scene that I love is when Tom Atkins is tied to the chair with Halloween playing on the TV. It's so clever how they actually use the music from Halloween to score the scene. I don't know if I've ever seen a scene like that in another film.
Scream did the exact same thing 14 years later
Great review. I hated this movie as a kid (looking for Myers), and re visited it 2 years ago. I cant believe how captivated I've become over it. I personally think you were spot on for the positives and the negatives.
@6:08, you're one of the only reviewers to see how this story keeps getting stranger by the minute...on purpose. The mystery just keeps growing, and the more it does, you start to feel the uneasiness the characters are feeling (cue perfectly timed music, and Dean Cundey cinematography). All the little strange subtleties , while not immediately threatening on there own, begin adding up to general uneasiness...to the point where the protagonists decide to just get the hell out of dodge, despite not having any answers to their questions...but....
@19:20, I personally believe not being told everything about everything adds to the mystique. Directors tend to not know when to back off these days. The director doesn't get caught up in the technicalities of the operation...all we need to know is...ancient technology meets modern technology. As Conal Cochran wryly says, "...devastating..." we soon find out it's capabilities. This mild mannered man who should be slowing down...simply enjoying the remaining life in his later years is instead duty bound to his religion, and appeasement of the dead for his own continuation on earth....gleefully exclaiming: "Those who went before me, you know, they never dreamed of anything like this!!! " Gee-sus!
Anyway, great review. Sorry so wordy!
Glad to see you singing this film's praises! Better than most of the Myers sequels for sure.
Absolutely
“You’ll never believe how we got this here”
*doesn’t even attempt to explain *
Halloween 3 make since the reason why Michael wasn't in Halloween 3 because in Halloween 2 Michael was in fire and he died
This movie like Halloween (2009) is growing on me & the scene where the guy pours gasoline himself in the car is just ridiculous 😂
suny123boy1 the first act is of 2009 remake is pretty horrible, and dr Loomis is a trainwreck. but Michael as an adult was ruthless and fun to watch. I think it was pretty good besides the beginning.
Another fantastic review, I agree Cody if you'd taken Halloween off the title this would've fared a lot better upon release, still it's gained a cult following so better late than never.
Loving these videos, I've currently relapsed from a mental illness & these videos prove to be a welcome entertaining distraction during some very dark days.
Say what you want about this movie it's better than every Halloween after part 4.
I love Halloween 3 great review man I agree with everything you said. I am getting all three of the masks finally based from the movie on backorder who knows when they will get to me but I can wait it gives me something to look forward to.
Layered with hidden truths about the nature of our reality
I remember it was three to four years ago, Halloween 3 came out either Syfy or AMC in which I liked the movie in which it wasn't the best but still however sadly the movie flopped both critically and commercially when it came out
I saw it on AMC too when it was broadcasted in 2003 I saw the movie as it was a shame that critics trashed the film.
Im glad you're on the LIKE side of Season of the Witch! Though its certainly not the first Halloween series film i watched growing up, it was in fact the first I ever bought when i was a kid, despite my folks telling me it sucked and I shouldn't waste my money lol ( Gotta love hick Wal-Marts that said fuck it to selling kids R Rated movies!)
Just watched it for the first time tonight and honestly, I fucking loved it! Definitely an underrated classic!
I know this video is from 4 years ago. I finally watched Season of the Witch and It’s awesome! This movie will be a Halloween tradition for me this year until I grow old! Im kicking myself right now for not watching this movie a long time ago. It makes me mad knowing I listened to all the Halloween fans out there that bashed this movie because it doesn’t have Michael Myers in it. Everything about it I loved. The soundtrack itself, the creepy feel throughout the entire movie, the thought of millions of children throughout the country potentially dying in the hands of the Silver Shamrock. If John Carpenter would’ve just called it Season of the Witch this movie easily would’ve been one of the best horror classics there is hands down!
“spoke to people that were actually ALIVE in the era…. “ Gimme a break…. 😏
4:05 - To be sure, I didn't hate Halloween 3 because it left the Michael Myers saga. I mean, if they wanted to do something different and make the Halloween franchise into an anthology of different stories instead of having the same killer come back time after time, that's certainly all right with me. I just hated Halloween 3 because it sucks. And so did most every Halloween film to come after it, Michael Myers or no Michael Myers.
Nope. Halloween III rocks on every level!
The film "The Guest" from several years ago could easily fit into the anthology idea Carpenter wanted. The Guest gives off those Halloween 3 vibes. At least for me. Fuck it, make SOTW part 2 and go ahead with Halloween 3: The Guest.
You're on point with this review. I've only seen the first and third Halloween movies, and as much as the original Halloween is an undisputed masterpiece, Season of the Witch is a flawed, yet severely underrated flick.
Sure, some of the plot points don't make much sense and the evil robot businessmen aren't that scary, but it what it does right is tell a story about how commercialized the holiday of Halloween has become, and how one man wants to bring back the dark roots of Halloween by selling masks that kill their wearers, and the ending is quite chilling and ballsy for what they did.
Plus, this movie has Tom Atkins, which automatically makes Season of the Witch an instant 10/10 in my book.
Former Halloween III hater here. At first I gave it a 4/10 because Michael Myers was absent in it and because I couldn't handle the fact that this entry in the franchise is so different than the others. Some time later I decided to give it a second chance while changing my perspective on it by seeing it as a standalone movie and being open minded to crazy stuff (considering my favorite sub-genre is realistic/grounded horror). I now love this movie and changed my rating to a 10/10. All thanks to giving it a second chance, having a change of perspective and being open-minded. I implore you to do the same and you'll might become a fan too.
Halloween 3 is one of my guilty pleasures as this movie was unfairly bashed and overhated by Michael Myers fanboys who are stuck in the late 70's. Dan O' Herlihy does a amazing performance as a evil sinister Maker of the Silver Shamrock masks as he wanted to kill kids as he see them as brats and Tom Akins did a a great role as Dr. Challis and the ending was nope no happy ending for you! *raspberry* Can't wait for the lowest point of the Halloween franchise as Halloween 4 is where the Michael Myers got brought back due to Halloween 3's poor reception and the movie bombed in 1983.
Shadowsega Exaid feel no guilt, this movie is incredible!
He goes from crazy cultural madman to being the old man in Robocop just 5 years after Colonel Cochran in Season of the Witch. Hard to believe but he did a great job in this movie.
I totally agree Cody that if u didn’t know Carpenter didn’t direct it you would never question it. It feels like a Carpenter film. He may have directed more than we’re led to believe
This movie is awesome and I am constantly upset by who hard it is to find on streaming services. I’d rather watch this over any other Halloween movie, honestly.
Then look into the Shout Factory collector's edition of the movie on physical media is easy enough to find. That and you own it if you had the player and watch it any time you want not rely on streaming services.
Always loved this movie since renting it from the video store in the 80s as a kid
They should make a prequel to this showing how Conal Cochran set up silver Shamrock etc
Wow! So these movies ARE connected. Because the Colonel mentions Samhain (sah-win) in this movie and Michael wrote that on the blackboard of the school in part Two. I have a feeling you're right about your "Poltergeist" theory.
He's not actually a "colonel". His name is Conal Cochran.

Thank you Cody! Really enjoying these reviews & intros
I've been on both sides of the fence. I first saw it when I was young and quickly dismissed it because MM wasn't in it.
Then I randomly watched it like 15 years later and loved it. Carpenter's score had me hooked from the beginning. The theme that the opening credits were set to is so grim and foreboding, and the music during the opening chase scene is incredible.
The mysterious plot unfolds nicely and the payoff at the end is the icing on the cake, even though you find out there are evil forces in this world more powerful than Tom Atkins' mustache.
Freaking awesome
Just wish they

Personally, this is the scariest of all the Halloween's...Its up there on my list of creepiest horror films period. That damn song instantly give me chills and makes me sick. lol
Hated the movie liked the concept didn't care that Myers wasn't in it i just found it boring, stupid and not entertaining but i liked the anthology idea they should have stuck to it and gave Myers his own spinoff franchise
No
It really does feel like a Carpenter movie, too
I love this movie! Hella creepy story. That scene with the kid's melting mask scarred me.
Sorry that I’m late for commenting on this video, Cody! Please forgive me. But, Halloween 3 is very underrated!! My third favorite Halloween film. Love this sequel! I understand that you are interested in what they were going to do in the future installments after 3. Apparently, Halloween 4 was going to have a ghost story set in Haddonfield. Great video! 👍🏻
It is actually a good stand alone horror film if you forget about Michael Myers.
Halloween III is the best sequel in the franchise. Michael Myers was great in the first Halloween but in all the sequels he was a pale imitation of the original. And in some cases quite unbelievable as supposedly being the same character. Give me Halloween III over any of them any day.
A very “morbid” version of “The Haunted Mask” by Goosebumps!
I agree that the title should’ve kept out “Halloween.” The movie probably would’ve had sequels..
That intro was so dope as usual! 🔪🎃
Just saw this movie for the first time a couple days ago i really enjoyed it
This is a pretty solid 80's horror, it has a load of 1/10 votes on IMDB, probably fans expecting a Myers movie, but if you get past that it is a pretty inventive and out there movie, I think the anthology idea was a good one, just the back lash killed that off.
The opening for this movie is cool as fuck and so is the original poster of the shadowy looking kids walking around to get their candy with a skull pumpkin on the logo and all .
damn everyone seems to love this movie. Am I the only one who thought that it was terrible lol ?
When I was a kid, the cover of this movie always intrigued me.
I saw it when it first came out in 1983, I absolutely loved it and still do, they at least are trying to be different here. Flipping awesome review, of probably one of the most hated horror films of the early 80’s.
I love these intros, keep up the good work up!
