Reading & Northern 2102 - The 2024 Iron Horse Rambles

Another summer season means another Iron Horse Rambles season! However, this time the Reading and Northern Railroad decided to change up their usual Reading to Jim Thorpe and back excursions by having their flagship steam engine, the massive 4-8-4 Northern 2102, haul its famous Iron Horse Ramble train's up north to Tunkhannock and Pittston, Pennsylvania. These rare milage runs brought 2102 through new and scenic areas in the northern section of Reading & Northern's system. And as always the crew puts on an amazing show of steam locomotive prowess and skill as the massive steam engine storms up mountainous grades hauling hundreds of passengers.
Reading & Northern 2102 is a T-1 class 4-8-4 Northern built by the Reading Railroad in 1945, originally built from a I-10sa 2-8-0 Consolidation, due to war time constraints. Being one of the four other surviving T-1 engines, the 2102 was purchased by the Blue Mountain & Reading Railroad in 1987, the 2102 was used for steam excursions until being removed from service in the early 1990's. Later, the Blue Mountain & Reading Railroad became the Reading Blue Mountain & Northern Railroad and still having the 2102 in their possession, the railroad restored the 2102 and reentered the locomotive into service. Today, you can see the 2102 pulling both the Iron Horse Rambles and Steam Fall Excursions, but on rare occasions the engine is called on to pull revenue freight trains.
