Does the amp in the saddlebag need sufficient empty air space for cooling? Is there an alternative as to mounting the amp in the fairing like the boom system?
Wish I could put that amp under the nose of a Road Glide. I've fit huge 800w amps under that nose back when I was running big setups. Sorry HD, I was planning on upgrading my boom2 to this, but losing saddlebag space is a dealbreaker. At least they made it a clean install with covers. Glad HD at least did an install video though. Also, big positive no more needing to go to the dealer for the radio flash! Lots of positives.
Did the first amp and speakers on my ‘20 flhtk. Very nice improvement over the stock speakers. Currently installing the second amp and saddle bag & twin cool speakers. It’s a nice setup. Looking forward to the spring.
just installed the 2 speaker and amp kit on a 2020 street glide special. i did the 76000981 3 way speakers,76000997 primary amp, and appropriate wiring harnesses. the place i got stuck is in the right side canbus wiring. watch the video carefully, he goes kind of quick on the video. otherwise its pretty straight forward and sound is good and loud.
Mine didnt work at first cause we had a connection wrong in the canbus. Once we fixed it worked as it should
I can't figure out the canbus on the right side. I slowed the video down and still can't figure it out. Need help
@@eddelgado4277 that happened to me too. I think theres two connectors the plug fits into. We had it wrong on first attempt. Switched it and it worked on second. The video and instruction definitely suck when it came to canbus hookups
@@DavidSmith-wd4wg I figured out that for 2016 and prior the canbus connector you need is on the left side. Plug in the orange female connector and use the rubber stopper to cover the male connector.
I’ve been unable to get any sound. Is there any way to tell if the amp is working properly? Out of ideas
Just finish my install of the Harley-Davidson Audio powered by Rockford Fosgate stage 2,, in my 2021 road glide special , sounds Greaaaat ! . very clear ,.great bass, great all around sound . it was worth it. i think im going to go with the subs for that extra edge.
I was all ready to order until I found out I had to give up saddlebag space for an amp. I’ll order the RF system directly from RF. Its about the same price and the amp mounts in the fairing.
My amp came off twice from the double sided tape on the amp bracket, all done twice by dealership. Any suggestion?
Bummer that the primary amp doesn’t go in the front sharknose
i call it a deal breaker, what a shame
A few things to consider why. 1. Weight distribution. 2. Stress on fairing supports. 3. What future components may need that space next year. (ie...rumors of new head unit in 2022).
Totally agree! I was actually talking to RF about their non-HD-branded system and the tech said that if I wanted a DSP to go with the HD system. I don't think I want the DSP as much as I don't want to give up my saddlebag space, cut giant holes in my saddlebag, deal with wiring into my saddlebag every time I remove it, have to purchase speaker install kits, etc.
Thank you Kevin James
Just added this system today to a 15 Limited. The app is not recognizing the amp. I’ve spent 4 hours double checking all the wiring, downloading the latest 6.5 software, and still am having no luck. Broke down ran to the dealer to see if they could flash it. No luck. They said they can’t find the amp on their laptop either so I broke down and made an appointment for the dealer to troubleshoot it. I am either really missing that’s not hooked up right or the amp is DOA. Anyhow if anyone has any other ideas I’d appreciate it.--- update- found 2 prongs in the dongle harness that were installed from factory upside down so they pushed out when connected to the dongle. Hopefully an anomaly but if you’re having the same issue, it’s something to check.
I just completed this 8 speaker install and 7 out of 8 speakers work. Where is the connection for the left saddle bag speaker? System sounds great though, but I bet it would sound much better with all 8 speakers connected.
Hi Corey, for assistance installing your speakers, we recommend reaching out to your local dealer. You can also feel free to call our Customer Care Team at 1-800-258-2464 (Monday through Friday; 8am-7pm CDT). Thank you.
How did you set the screw back in the latch after installed the speaker lids. There is no room between where the screw goes and where the speaker goes?
at 9:15 disconnect the accessory port? the port is different on 2016 RG (FLTRXS). do I need a jumper or different plug?
Mount the amp in the Fairing.
Most people don't want to lose storage space.
Is this possible??? Mount the amp in the RG faring ?
Slowing down and showing more specific shots of each harness would have made this a useful tutorial

Hey Greg informative video thanks. My question is I have a 2020 FLHX last winter I added a tour pack with rear speakers. The tour pack is removable Harley dealer wired it so I can unplug the speakers and lights for the tour pack under the seat when I take it off of the bike. This winter I’m doing a Rockford Fosgate stage 2 upgrade. I am curious with the amp if they’re going to be able to wire the rear speaker so that the tour pack can remain removable?
Hey Clayton, we recommend discussing this with your local dealer who helped you with the tour pack, originally. This way, they know all the details to your bike and can give proper recommendations. Thank you!
Can you disconnect rear speakers and remove your pack with this setup?
Yep, I've got a detachable tour pack and it works fine. I just go through the setup and disable the tour pak speakers.

You forgot to mention...when you mount that amp...make sure to stand saddlebag up on end and let the adhesive cure for 24 hours.
Is the Bluetooth dongle harness separate? I have a 22cvo road glide that did not come with the dongle. I purchased the dongle from the dealer but I don’t see where to connect it
Hey, we'd like to chat with you about this. When you have a moment, please give us a call at 1-800-258-2464. Thank you.
Just so its clear as Im going through this now. If you have an older bike with the GT radio it still needs a one time dealer flash. I contacted one of the engineers at HD who assisted in design and told him with all the bass turned down on the app and the bike it still has distorted bass at low volumes especially when bike is off. He advised me that 6.5 gt radios need a dealer flash. The newer GTS radios do not. No where in the directions does it say this. I assumed set up through the app and I was done. Ill be taking bike in soon. It sounded great before this flash that I needed just need to get that bass under control. This video should be updated to advise this. He installs on two gts radios so these dont need a flash. A disclaimer should be added for guys with the 14-18 GT radios!!!
When I took my 2016 in for a flash, they told me it didn't need it. They told me all I needed was the app. Can someone from HD chime in on this?
So, if you have the 2019 or newer then no flash needed. Thats good to know
UPDATE......... I found a local shop to flash the gt system on my 2016 FLTRU and it sounds great.
Had this new RF system install by the dealership on my 2020 RGS, Does the head unit need to be flashed?
Hey John, the head unit does not need to be flashed, you can utilize the H-D Audio App to finish the installation. If you haven't already, we recommend checking out the video above to see the entire step by step installation process. Thank you!
Looked like you plug into ecm port if I understood instruction. Does this tune to radio to flat output instead of the frequency curve built into the stock radio. Then you can adjust the frequency’s with your phone using the app.
Im going through this now. Apparently if you have the GT radio it still needs a dealer flash. Nowhere in the video or instructions does it say that. Mine sounds great but the bass can be overwhelming to the point of distorting on certain songs even at low volune and I have all controls for bass as low as they go. I inquired with one of the engineers who follows a harley facebook page and he told me. I asked him if HD is going to update the instructions to let these guys with 14-18 GT stereos know. He replied he will be looking into that.
@@DavidSmith-wd4wg HD says no flash required.
The GTS radio DOES NOT need to be flashed because it communicates via CANbus to the amplifier and will flash the radio using the Harley-Davidson Audio App. Standard 4.3 and Premium 6.5GT radios MUST be flashed by the Harley-Davidson technician since they can't communication with the amplifier.
@@rockfordfosgate does that mean if you have a 6.5gt radio and you decide to have a removable tour pack on it you will not be able to
@@aubreydavis2739 Are you asking if you'll be able to detach/attach the TourPak and switch between 6 and 8 speakers once the radio is flashed and the speakers are setup with the App? We haven't tried it, but there seems to be no reason why you couldn't do this. The amplifier would be setup to "see" the TourPak speakers, so it would attempt to play as normal. This would not hurt the radio, however if you ran a diagnostic test, it would likely have an error based on TourPak speakers not being connected.
Can you do the can Bluetooth part slower step by strep can’t see which plugs your are using
Great video!!! I just installed this on my 2021 Ultra Limited & the installation was easy because of your detailed vid. Thank you
That is my 2021 Ultra Limited lol. But for some reason mine has the stock back in it.
I am not saying anything about this install video, great job! However, I am making my statement against the system itself. I actually had the Harley shop do my install on a 2020 Roadglide Limited and got the stage 2. If you are looking for a system that sounds good whether you're just sitting in your driveway or doing 80 mph down the highway, this is NOT the one for you! The system sounds great sitting steel, but, once you start adding some road noise your good sound goes away. You start getting around 60 mph and above you have to start hitting the volume switch up. No system should have to be turned up at full volume. Very disappointed in the Harley Rockford system, I talked to the dealer and said I should add the second amp and another two or four speakers ( I don't think so) bad enough spending the first 2200.00 on this waste of money. If you are looking to install this system, don't take anyone else's word, don't just listen to one, if you're able to ride it at highway speeds. If I had been able to do that, I would still have my 2200.00 and be a lot happier. I know this is my opinion, but the HD RF is a waste of money and is junk...
Where would you mount the amp if doing this on a 2021 Tri Glide? Thanks

@@superduty131 @Chris Williamson - check out Bob Forwark's RUclips video for Tri-Glides. His video is pretty good on where to put the amp. I have the CVO TG and I'm planning to do the primary amp in the fairing replacing the Boom Audio Amp & putting the Secondary AMP in the trunk.
Hi, I riding a 2018 Street Glide CVO with Boom Audio Stage 2 with 6 speaker positions (Fairing x2, Fairing lowers x2 and Saddle bag lids x2) What do I need to upgrade to a Stage 2 Rockford Fosgate 6 speaker audio system
I have the same question
You'll need the entire kit (all speakers, mounting brackets, wiring kits, 2 amps) - proprietary connections. Unless of course you're going to keep your current speakers but the sound won't be as good as the Boom used 2 way speakers, not 3 way. There are deals to be had if you look around. Example, HD lists the amps at $500 each but a lot of dealerships carry them for $424. The primary amp is back-ordered until April 12th and hard to find in stock anywhere. Retail for Stage 2, 6 speaker setup runs just shy of 3K, but hunting around and ordering from different dealerships saved me nearly 1K and didn't have to wait for my primary amp. Dealership install runs around 1K depending on dealership labor rates - do it yourself; it's very easy (just time consuming). Did mine in an afternoon in my garage. Ran my sounds up against a "big wheel" dude that spent $5700 on his audio. He had nowhere near the base I get and his was crackling when we hit 85% on volume. I can go to 100% with no distortion. Definitely glad I went with this system.

@@gerrymiller7401 I called the local Harley shop. They didn't have a clue. Just wanted to know what I need to install the new fosgate system on my Cvo. Is it a night and day difference comparing to the boom stage 2? I have 3 amps now. One in the fairing and one in each bag. I wonder if they make a plug and play? Because my amp connections and harness out of the bags look different than what the video shows. They are doing the setup on a special or a standard street glide with no lower fairings or bag speakers.
I just got the 2022 road glide cvo and installed the app followed you're setup instructions and the app is not finding the bike. Is there any paring steps you left out or is it different from what you're showing in the video?

Hi, what happen after install the rockford audio but did not flush with the radio? Any effect on sound quality?
I'm curious about this too...just installed this system and I have way too much low end...even with all the more frequencies turned down...
Just installed the primary amp and upper speakers. For some reason I can't get it working...
The speakers work, I tested those with the original connections. The Amp is getting power since it is warm, but no sound of any kind. I can connect to the Bluetooth module and start the white noise test, but no dice...
I have tried every connection possible but nothing even gives the speakers a burp.
Any thoughts on where I could look for some more close-ups or diagrams for connecting the electrical? Shouldn't be that hard but for the life of me I can't get it working. I almost want to blame it on a wiring harness or amp defect, but I'm likely the weakest link here.

@@harleydavidson It was quite the wait, but I was able to get the system working! The issue I was having is at the end of the installation when going through the app, I didn't get past the instructions part that was guiding me through the speaker setup. I had - wrongly - thought white noise should have already been coming out of the speakers when you have to initiate the white noise once you get past the instructions in the app. Thanks for pointing me toward support, I now have tunes!
Is there something to do? I go to the white noise test at end of app but nothing,
@@HAZFamily0197 I had to click the button at the bottom of the app that actually makes the white noise. I don't remember what it was called, but I can check and respond again. Basically, there is a page that comes up first that says it will do a test and make some white noise. I clicked past that so the image of the motorcycle was displayed and I thought there was supposed to be white noise at that time, when in fact I had to click the button to begin that part of the test.
Does the factory radio need to be flashed with this system?
Hi Keith, the newly installed audio system and speakers will not play audio unless it is configured using the Harley-Davidson audio app or by an authorized Harley-Davidson dealership. So you install this entire system and never connect it to the radio? That step was skipped entirely.
That is correct. I think it gets its signal from the front speakers when you plug them in to the factory plugs. It then sends everything to the amp.
