I now live in Adelaide Australia , for some reason in the DIY stores and some supermarkets they play 1970’s And 80’s music . They played this a couple of days ago while I was sifting through the tool section, I don’t think I have herd this song since I was a kid . It’s been going through my head for the last 48 hours . Great music from great times . Far better times than now . Or maybe I am just getting old and appreciating my youth more .. Ahhh youth is wasted on the young ay .
I remember these songs from my childhood...nice memories. Almost 50 years later I am listening again here on youtube. And I can feel my childhood again thanks to Gilbert his beautiful songs.
Released in the summer of 1972, cracking the UK Top 10. It was the follow up to Alone Again Naturally and setting the stage for his first UK number One, Clair, released in November 1972. 1972 sure was a spectacularly successful year for the wonderful Gilbert OSullivan. He would soar though 1973 and 1974 racking up further hit singles and hit albums.
In San Antonio, Texas,,in 1972, lived, a 15yr old Mexican, boy! Very Much influenced, by The Poetic artistry of Gilbert O' Sullivan, I bought, His albums,Himself/Back to Front,/ and The Spit and polished, I'm a writer not a fighter!.. I was very impressed, with the way he would, rhyme, his lyrics with such ease!...Thank you, Gilbert O Sullivan,, for being ,, Yourself!
Went to see him for my birthday a couple of days ago in Chicago I was born and brought up in Liverpool and I loved the songs then and I appreciate them more even now. Rock on Gilbert.
Gilbert OSullivan amazingly improved on what Paul McCartney achieved with The Beatles. Gilbert's entire 1970s output is brilliant and his latter day studio efforts are solid.
Gilbert OSullivans early singles never did much business in the US although Nothing Rhymed made it to number 114. It was Alone Again Naturally that got him going over there with further hits like Clair, Get Down and the US only released single Out Of The Question. Gilbert OSullivans reign as a hitmaker in America ended all too soon although thankfully he had further chartsuccess in England, Europe and other parts of the world between 1973 and 1975. Arguably the finest singer/songwriter ever.
We're using his song at Leicester City this season. 🎶...🎶..." I want to tell you, I might as well do.... about a boy who can do anything.... signed by Maresca... to play for Leicester.... Harry Winks Harry Winks Harry Winks" 🎶... 🎶
I dont get it im just amazed by the color and dresses of that time line pity girls don't ware that short stuff anymore vary dareing and aren't as nice anymore most are hard headed or only see guys as ATMs long story maybe its just me though
I went to a grocery story in the early 1970's and found an album in the bargain bin. Once side was a pre-(alone again naturally) Gilbert O' Sullivan and the other Engelbert Humperdinck. My favorite early G o'S song was "I wish I could die". He recorded a couple of different versions of this song and I encourage you to find it, it's worth it.
@@thomasmarthinussen8978 Thanks for that info that it was released as a single in England and did very well. I had a feeling it was since this video shows him singing the song. I also enjoyed another "B" song from him which should have been released as a single and that is "She's A Very Extraordinary Girl" which I played much more than the "A" side which I think was "Get Down".
@@DougCeleste Hi Doug! I also love the music hall gem A Very Extraordinary Sort Of Girl. Its probably my all time favourite Gilbert B side. I also like the B side to Why oh Why oh Why, the superb You Dont Have To Tell Me(1973).
@@thomasmarthinussen8978 Glad you love this song like me and it IS Gilbert's BEST "B" side that was much better than some of his released singles. The other song is a nice one to hear, too.
"Now up in Bradford. A chap named Radford, Whilst taking part in a local play. Was intercepted and then suspected of going Ooh Wakka Doo Wakka Day." Why doesn't that surprise me.
I wanna tell you, I might as well do, About a boy who can do anything, He plays for Saintees, He loves the ladies Stevie May, Stevie May, Stevie May!!!!!!
Music critics rave about Elton John's 70s studio recordings and his songs were superb but personally I feel Gilbert OSullivan surpassed Elton in music quality.

This man could turn any song into an absolute classic the words all meant something without having to sing about death and murder and killing
So so underrated he was brilliant

Is this a Danish or Dutch TV clip?
anybody could explain me the meaning of Wakka do wakka day...?
I think ooh wakka doo wakka day means f*ck or sh*t or another four letter word of your choice. IMHO mr O'Sullivan's should read something like this:

Her name is Rita and wow, that girl can swear like a trooper!....
And when they freed him, it so relieved him
that he started swearing like a sailor
Now, up in Bradford a chap named Radford
...Was intercepted
this really p*ssed him off and I could swear people heard him swear like a trooper....

You only have to sing the wrong f*ckin' thing
