    Hey Dr. Gaur, great video and explanation. Is the choice between the type of stiffener based off where you're inserting the pigtail?

    Is there a special procedure for removal of the pig tail catheter?

    weve been told we need to cut a pigtail drain prior to removal to prevent septic shower, can you explain what this means?

    • @sarelgaurMD
      @sarelgaurMD  3 года назад

      yes should always cut these prior to d/c. 'septic shower' sounds a bit overdramatic. its pretty simple, if you don't cut the tube, the pigtail won't deform and hence you will 'yank' hard on whatever structure the tube was in. the pt will likely scream in agony. ask me how I know this. sg

    Excellent review. Thankyou so much. Also, while removing the catheter, the suture is cut to unlock the tail.

      good point. certainly missed this crucial fact prior to my first attempted catheter removal and learned the hard way

    Please help i have permanent damage and severe liver scarring from my gallbladder drain ctube being placed THROUGH the liver to get to the infected gallbladder my drain is a pigtail catheter like this and when i went to get both drain and gallbladder removed he aborted my surgery when he got inside because of high risk of hepatic bleeding possibly fatal. Blood tests show kidney and liver problems. This drain tube needs removed but no one wants to touch my liver Was it a mistake what they did? I know they'll never admit it to me! Im very sick, scared and hurting.

      For any others reading the above post, for drainage of an infected gallbladder the drain is typically placed through a portion of the liver and into the adjacent gallbladder in order to prevent leakage of infected gallbladder contents/fluid into the abdomen directly.

    When you remove the locked suture with the flip up tab, could that introduce air into the body, ie release the flip up tab prior to removing a chest pigtail pneumothorax catheter introduce air into the chest?

      hi - typically to remove a small bore chest tube, would cut the tube, quickly pull it out and cover tightly w/ a tegaderm. best, sg

    i have a question about iodine contrast media and phisics, what happen with photoelectric effect and compton effect?the lambert-beer law says us that photoelectric effect is predominant in image formation by increasing the HU of the blood, and making the blood more thick... what book do you recommend about contrast media? in the ACR recomendations there is nothing about this... if im wrong please help , im student . thanks for answering
