  • It’s common among Christians to interpret Paul’s statement that “all Israel will be saved” (Romans 11:25-26) to refer to mean that national Israel will be saved by God in the end or that all Jews will eventually turn to the messiah in the end times. But is that what Paul meant? How would we know? This episode discusses Paul’s statement and these questions.

This is a very important element that is not just overlooked, but ignored within the Christian Faith. This understanding of Scripture plays a role in today's society, and in the end times. Since learning this, it has opened up scriptures and my faith. It is wonderful to hear it spoken of!

I think confusion of who the whole of Israel is sets in when the reader begins reading the Bible in Matthew rather than genesis. Things just sort of snap into place when one begins at the beginning. Israel are those who are in covenant with God. :)

Maria thats not what Dr Heiser teaches. I agree with Paul and Dr Heiser. I think that one day a remnant of ethnic Jews or a bigger remnant than already will turn to Jesus and be saved and counted in the body of Christ. In the end all who believe will be Israel.

Democrats Only Believers are those who are in covenant with God, so you are both correct. Even though the New Testament (i.e., New Covenant) teaches this, it is usually glanced over because most teachers don't really understand what it means to be in covenant with God, so they don't teach the subject.

Paul is contrasting Israel with gentiles throughout Romans 11. So I think the implication would be that he is referring to a remnant of Jews to join the Church.

  • @mscottharwell

5th view would be commonwealth/grafting/placement theology.
Jacob"s prophecy over Ephraim that he would be "the fullness of the nations/gentiles" per Romans 11.
We former aliens and strangers (gentiles) are now of/in the commonwealth of Israel. Grafted/placed/adopted in to God's nation of Israel.
But recognizing how the Bible treats the distinction bw BOTH the house of Judah AND the house of Israel.
Judah, the natural branches that did not lose its national Israel identity, will be grafted back at the end of the age per Zechariah and the other prophets.
The key is to see how the Bible makes distinctions between Judah and Israel but the 2 houses/sticks will be reunited.

I'm not advocating Replacement Theology, but doesn't it teach that the old covenant has been replaced by the new covenant, and therefore the people of it who had access to God and His grace by that null and void covenant system are replaced; not because of their ethnicity as Jew, but because that path to citizenship in the kingdom of priests no longer exists? Now they must come to God by means of the new covenant, as does everyone else. If I understand it correctly, then none of the reasoning used to dismiss that interpretation works sense he dismissed it based on ethnicity not being the meaning of Israel, and stated that Israel is a covenental term.

Totally agree with the analysis, but one practical issue bothers me... if Paul is essentially saying, "all of the redeemed will be saved", isn't that just "a duh"? Why state something so obvious in that way?

Then how come the idea of the hardening of Israel is contrasted with the fullness of the gentiles? If the gentiles are coming how can they do so if they were hardened. I think Paul is referring specifically to the 12 tribes of Israel.

  • @kevinivey8422
    @kevinivey8422 5 лет назад

I believe this terminology that Paul uses “all Israel will be saved” is directly linked to the story of Joseph when he sends his brothers back to his fathers house (Israel) for the purpose of gathering them unto himself in the new land. All the families of Israel where saved bye the brothers evangelism to the entire house of Israel. Genesis chapter 47 and 48 make this clear. Romans chapter 11 when read in its entirety is a parallel to the story of Joseph. Furthermore it is the only instance in Scripture where the entire house of Israel was saved. In the book of election which is Genesis. The Church is not a substitute, but it is interesting to note how The Egyptians/Gentiles people played a role in the life of the families of Israel and how the fullness of Egypt was saved. One more thing of interest is the terminology that is used in regards to the land of Goshen directly parallels the terminology that is used in conjunction with the promised land. I believe Paul is referring to the millennial rain When all things are set in order. Another point of interest, Joseph utilizes the word remnant to describe the salvation of the 12 tribe families that are represented in genesis 47 and 48.

Mike, thank you for this message. I agree that it is all Israel, but it also does include the 10 tribes. God divorces Israel but tells them he will bring them back to him. I think it’s in Isaiah where it talks about the two sticks; one is the house of Judah and the other Is the house of Israel. The 10 tribes became assimilated into the nations and forgot who they were. But now we are waking up! We are remembering that we are Israel and coming back to God thru his son Jesus. So it is spiritual but also ethical, and includes Jews and Gentiles and Torah and Jesus. In Revelation it says they keep the commandments of God and have the faith of Jesus. Stephen used the church to describe All the Hebrews gathered at the mountain after God freed them from Egypt. So, as believers in Jesus, we are grafted in to the vine of Abraham. We are Israel! And we should not have anything to do with idolatry, including Saturnalia or Tammuz.

All Israel is a spiritual concept and refers to all the branches of the olive tree of Israel, whether grafted in or natural. Simply being a descendant of Jacob doesn't make you of Israel. You must be righteous in the sight of the God of Israel to be of true Israel (either through the covenant of Moses or the covenant of Christ). This is according to the name "Israel" itself. The name can be translated "prince of God" in view of the coming Kingdom of God and the rulership of the sons of God. If the Jews of Christ's time were true children of Abraham, they would have done the works of Abraham. It is the spirit, not the flesh which determines who is of Israel.

Why couldnt the first view be a little more reasonable? Like Israel is not ethnic, which it isnt. But all people, through a faith like Abraham, become the people of God. Jew or otherwise. Faith in Christ, like Abraham had, is what makes you saved, or a spiritual "Israelite". According to the grace of God.

As much as I resist the first view, the claim that replacement is anti Jewish is absurd.

What you are describing sounds to me like replacement theology without the strawman criticisms you levied against it. I dont know of any modern theologian that holds to replacement theology who thinks Israel is garbage and can't be saved. They simoly think "Israel" is a collection of believing Jews and gentiles, and not an ethnic based nation state. What is the difference between that and what you are saying?

"Ethnic Jews" are not all of "Ethnic Israel".
"All Israel" is meaningless unless taking into cognisance the nine tenths of all the tribes of Israel that were taken into captivity by Assyria, leaving only a "tenth" part in the land.
    Why is this overlooked ?

  • @RickRandRMarketingllc

    Warning;
I never heard of Dr. Michael Heiser’s teaching before this one but I do need to warn Michael of the error of this form of teaching. What I mean is this, to discover what a phrase means like; "All Israel will be saved", you not only must read the verses that surround it but also the context of the passage. I was hoping that his listeners below who commented on the video would have pointed this out. Unfortunately, just 1 suggested; "Would it not be better to interpret the verse in context?..." All the rest were sidetracked by the fact that Michael never mentioned the context so neither did the listeners pay any attention to it either (at least those who commented).
I challenge anyone to read the passage below carefully and I doubt too many would be left wondering who was Paul referring to. Obviously, it can only be Michael's 4th option of the miracle of the remnant suddenly breaking down and weeping as they see Him coming and as they look upon the one whom they have pierced and this being at the very end, after most of Israel is destroyed and killed, then there is a pause in the fighting as they celebrate the death of the 2 witnesses and then those that remain have the scales removed from their eyes and the hardness of their heart is taken away. These are natural born descendants of Abraham that are living in the land of Israel that Yahuah has gathered from the 4 corners of the earth.
Rom 11:1 I say then, has Elohim rejected His people? Let it not be! For I also am of Yisra’ěl, of the seed of Aḇraham, of the tribe of Binyamin.
2 Elohim has not rejected His people Psa_94:14 whom He knew beforehand..........
4 But what does the answer of Elohim say to him? “I have left for Myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Ba‛al.” 1Ki_19:18.
5 So therefore also, at this present time a remnant according to the choice of favor has come to be.
6 And if by favor, it is no longer of works, otherwise favor is no longer favor. ....
7 What then? Yisra’ěl has not obtained what it seeks, but the chosen did obtain it, and the rest were hardened.
11 I say then, have they stumbled that they should fall? Let it not be! But by their fall deliverance has come to the nations, to provoke them to jealousy. Deu_32:21.
12 And if their fall is riches for the world, and their failure riches for the nations, how much more their completeness!
13 For I speak to you, the nations, inasmuch as I am an emissary to the nations, I esteem my service,
14 if somehow I might provoke to jealousy Deu_32:21 those who are my flesh and save some of them.
15 For if their casting away is the restoration to favor of the world, what is their acceptance but life from the dead?
16 Now if the first-fruit is set-apart, the lump is also. And if the root is set-apart, so are the branches.
17 And if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive tree, have been grafted in among them, and came to share the root and fatness of the olive tree,
18 do not boast against the branches. And if you boast, remember: you do not bear the root, but the root bears you!
19 You shall say then, “The branches were broken off that I might be grafted in.”
20 Good! By unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by belief. Do not be arrogant, but fear.
21 For if Elohim did not spare the natural branches, He might not spare you either.
22 See then the kindness and sharpness of Elohim: on those who fell sharpness, but toward you kindness, if you continue in His kindness, otherwise you also shall be cut off.
23 And they also, if they do not continue in unbelief, shall be grafted in, for Elohim is able to graft them in again.
24 For if you were cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and were grafted contrary to nature into a good olive tree, how much more shall these who are the natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree?
25 For I do not wish you to be ignorant of this secret, brothers, lest you should be wise in your own estimation, that hardening in part has come over Yisra’ěl, until the completeness of the nationsa has come in. Footnote: a Gen_48:19.
26 And so all Yisra’ěl shall be saved, as it has been written, “The Deliverer shall come out of Tsiyon, and He shall turn away wickedness from Ya‛aqoḇ,
27 and this is My covenant with them, when I take away their sins.”

You may be over literalizing the prophetic concepts. God often speaks in types and seemlessly and suddenly flows into the great concept, in its fullness. Spanning an idea that may cover vast spans of history. As we all accept when we tease out the meaning of the king of Tyre, in Ezekiel for example, and who God speaks of ultimately. I believe we have to remember this type of typological teaching when we recieve the OT prophets words!. Especially all those which use "Thus says the LORD."

If all Israel meant all tribes of Israel as in OT then that would cause even more problems, as tribe of Dan and Efraim has already vanished. The author of the book of revelation names us twelve tribes Just like they are listed in 1 Chronicles 1-8. Books of chronicles are focused only on kingdom of Juda. That explains lack of Dan. Because Dan lived in northern kingdom of Israel. Also Efraim was often used in prophetic books as Synonim to northern kingdom. Probably that is why in book of revelation it is changed to tribe of Joseph instead of Efraim. Meaning that there are only Jews left. Northern kingdom was gone/ they have vanished. You won't find these tribes I guess. So all Israel as all tribes seems impissible to me.

My understanding of all Israel will be saved is that the Messiah came to his own and his own received him not. That's not to say that no Jewish people believe in Jesus but very few did so in God's merciful plan he turned to the Gentiles when that number is filled he turns back to the Jewish people to give them another chance because God is gracious and merciful not every Jew will believe that Jesus Christ is the messiah just like not every Gentile will believe that Jesus Christ is the messiah but the fullness of all Israel will be all of those that belong to Jesus both Jew and Greek AKA Gentile that is all Israel and that none of them will be lost.

It's a melchisedek phrase ; Melchi and Zadok or Michael and Samael (both, 'the twin' also known with various other names), the princes, urges, manners, left- right- hand, the elected, the beloved/rejected, the watchers, the demi-urg or lesser gods, the actual creators of everything. Especially the Voice, the Word, the warrior, Israel, the thundering angel of death is connected with the creation, the killing of the dragon (Behemoth) that triggers what follows. His 'brother' Jakob the obedient priest is a life-giving spirit that floats above the 'dead waters' a spiritual guy that revives the dragon as living Earth. The material guy (man is made from stuff/dust/ashes) is considered to be the father of all flesh/mankind ; we are his children/offspring, all nations far-off or nearby. If the readoption of this fallen angel happens, now what else will that mean then the forgiving of sins for his offspring as well. It comes close to a potential all-conciliation. Does it include jews ? (pointing this question is basical antisemitic). Honestly saying 'Paul' doesn't explicit say so to make it clear. He keeps it hanging almost as if he is not interested.

All Israel will be saved - exactly what it states - all descendants of Jacob will be saved except those (Romans 9:6 > ... For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel) of the synagogue of Satan. Revelation 3:9 > Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; ...
Every word of God is pure and that's why HE chose Jacob and his descendants excluding the satanists .
Romans 9:15 > For HE saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.
Further, line of Ishmael ( descendent of Abraham ) and then line of Esau (descendant of Isaac) are also not of Israel.

Only Spiritual Israel will be saved. As the Gentile Body of Christ, and Jews that Believe and Accept Yeshua of Nazareth as Messiah, are the current community of Belief, these will be saved and to include Israelites of All Time that believed the Torah and Levitical Law and did their best to adhere to the ordinances and commandments. Those First Advent Israelites, including Jews, that believed prior the incarnation, did so on the basis of Messiah ultimately forgiving their sins that were covered, but not forgiven, by animal sacrifice. So, All Israel, means those who Believed, Believe, or will Believe, past, present and future, including those Jews that will recognize Jesus as Messiah at His Second Advent.

With all due respect, "All Israel" does not include the church which is Christ's body. We are 'partakers' of God's promise in Christ by the gospel...Eph. 3:6.
Would it not be better to interpret the verse in context?...
Rom.11:26,27 , is from Is. 59:20,21 . This is definitely covenant people in view.

B Wendelin "the church" is not even found in the original languages. The term used is the Greek "ekklessia," which means "assembly", and is equivalent to the Hebrew "qahal." The whole assembly of people at Sinai, Israelite and gentile alike, were included in the covenant. The northern house of Israel was later divorced and put out of covenant. It is through the death of Messiah/God, the husband, that Israel, who having been dispersed to the Gentiles is able to be brought back into covenant. Therefore, "all Israel" can now be part of the "new" covenant. The books of Hebrews and Romans speak to these things, but you really need to understand the Old Testament context, especially Jeremiah, Isaiah, and Ezekiel, to understand the New Testament commentary on these theological subjects.

There is no seperation of Gods people if you look at the Greek.
Church and Jew are not two different people of God. Such ideas are artifacts derived from the translating into English. Ironically, a false concept invented from the anti-semetic feelings of the monarchy which funded our English bible.
I second that which is said in the first response to tour comment. Study the Greek word 'ekklessia' and how it is used and where.

So Heiser can't do eschatology. Sad.
If we're going to use the Old Testament, let's use the passage Paul quotes from. Isaiah 59, like many other prophetic passages, is of the national people of Israel rejecting God, being punished/exiled/judged by Him, and then being restored to Him eternally in fulfillment of Exodus 6:7.
Isaiah 59:19 describes the salvation of the Gentiles:
"From the west, people will fear the name of the Lord,
and from the rising of the sun, they will revere his glory.
For he will come like a pent-up flood
that the breath of the Lord drives along"
The very next verse describes Jacob repenting when the Redeemer comes to Zion. If this is not a clear indication of the future salvation of (ethnic) Israel, then nothing is.
There is no difference between Jew and Gentile when it comes to the means of their salvation. The same Lord saves them both through his atoning death. They are saved on the basis of faith, not adherence to the law or works. But the order of their salvation does differ. Israel is temporarily hardened so that the nations can receive salvation. But once that time is up, all Israel will be saved. National Israel. Ethnic Israel. God has not rejected His people forever; only temporarily as both judgment against them and as grace for the nations.
For context, let's finish what God says in Hosea so that we don't have erroneous eschatology. God will restore (ethnic) Israel because He is faithful and has promised He will.
    Hosea 2:29
    I will plant her for myself in the land;
I will show my love to the one I called ‘Not my loved one.’
    I will say to those called ‘Not my people,’ ‘You are my people’;
and they will say, ‘You are my God.’

Not saying you're wrong...but the ending there isn't all that strong, given that Paul also quotes that verse applying it to gentiles.

With all due respect to Dr. Heiser, though it seems like he is correct in how Paul is using the term "all Israel" I think his logic is flawed in saying that it has no bearing on the modern state of Israel or some future period of largescale conversion of the Jews as an ethnic group. The passage in its context, based on a plain reading, shows that Paul is making comparisons between natural Israel (just the Jews) and spiritual Israel (Jew and Gentile) and he suggests that the inclusion of the gentiles was designed to make Israel "jealous" (hinting at a time of them being grafted back in). He also refers to a time of the Jews "full inclusion" and a time of their "acceptance" as compared to their current rejection. And he suggests that God has the power to "graft them back in again."
Taken as a whole, it would seem to strongly suggest there will come a time of large scale Jewish acceptance of the gospel, even if the term "all Israel" does not refer exclusively to natrual Israel.

YAH never made any Covenant with Jews. He made a Covenant with the Children of Israel. All Israelites were not Jews. A Jew is one who adheres or live up to the precepts of the Lawa Statutes and Commandments which is Jewry i.e The Fullness. So a Jew is noevwho Lived in The Fullness. The Way of Life was not limited to biological Israelites. There were many proselytes....strangers who had adopted the religeon.
Paul defined for us who is " a Jew ". Roms.2:28-29

All Israelites shall be saved . Christ came to save His people from their sins... and He did just that. Regardless of whether an Israelite accepts Christ or not he still shall be saved.
How about this unpopular but true view.? Being saved means that you will not go into the lake of fire. It is sin that would cause you to be thrown into the lake of fire. Sin does not only send you to Hell. Sin will also cause you to be cast into the lake of fire 🔥
And the blood of Jesus atoned for Israel's sins.
Regardless of whether you believe it or not. There shall no Israelites in the lake of fire.
However, all those who rejected the Gospel and and are not waiting on His return shall reap what they sow. They are cultivating rejection and they shall reap rejection. Only to those who check for Him shall He appear to.
" So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and UNTO THEM THAT LOOK FOR HIM SHALL HE APPEAR the second time without sin unto salvation.- Heb 9:28
      Nevertheless,
The prophecy of Ezekiel 37:10-14 has to be fulfilled
literally. All deceased Israelites shall be taken out of their graves and shall be placed into their own land. That shall be the first Resurrection . All Israelites shall make the 1st resurrection Also, whether you believe it or not , the 1st resurrection shall occur sometime after Satan is casted into the lake of fire.
Christ's Second Coming to this earth shall not be His last. However I must say that His 2nd Advent has nothing to do with the 1st resurrection. Resurrection is for the dead and those that died in Christ are ASLEEP and not dead. They all shall rise when the loud Trumpet blows They and only they shall rise ..[.not the dead dead.] That shall not be counted for a resurrection.

Paul was from the tribe of Benjamin. The bulk of the 12 tribes of Israel had left the middle east and migrated up into Europe more than 700 years before Paul was even born. If you do not have a clear understanding of that then your whole idea is flawed. BTW...the USA is the tribe of Manasseh, which holds the remnant of Jacob.

Marilyn , if you are going to make such statements, do the scholarly thing and provide proof for your statements. You can't just say "the USA is the tribe of Manasseh" because it's just not a credible statement. It's rather absurd to claim that everyone in the US is descended from Manasseh, seeing as how the USA is literally made up of people from all over the world.

First Moses says, “I will make you jealous of those who are not a nation; with a foolish nation I will make you angry.” Then Isaiah is so bold as to say, “I have been found by those who did not seek me; I have shown myself to those who did not ask for me.” But of Israel he says, “All day long I have held out my hands to a disobedient and contrary people.””
    ‭‭Romans‬ ‭10‬:‭18‬-‭21‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“For if their rejection means the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance mean but life from the dead? But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, although a wild olive shoot, were grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing root of the olive tree, For if God did not spare the NATURAL BRANCHES neither will he spare you. Note then the kindness and the severity of God: severity toward those who have fallen, but God’s kindness to you, provided you continue in his kindness. Otherwise you too will be cut off.”

    Which translation is that?
In the KJV Rom.9 reads like this : "Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel"
How about this view of that verse. Paul is explaining that it not everyone in the Nation of Israel is a biological Israelites and in the same breathe he was making it clear to his audience that it is the biological Israelites that are the seed. Though he pointed out that it was in Issac that the seed be called, he had to deal with Esau who also came from Issac.
Basically he was reaffirming what he said in Roms.9:4-5.
I don't see how you arive at that. But wait... it is the translation that says that.
Well I disagreed with that breakdown.
