I wrote Kim Simmonds a letter in 1997, I was a 15 year old beginner guitarist who was obsessed with him after discovering Savoy Brown in my dads stack of LP's. He was kind enough to write me back and I am forever grateful that he took the time to respond to a dumb kid who was asking dumb guitar related questions. He has always been a hero of mine & a criminally underrated guitarist and performer. Thank you for everything Kim Simmonds RIP

One of the greatest blues guitarists who have ever lived but never got the recognition. He's every bit as good as Clapton, Page, Gilmour et al. I started listening to Kim and Savoy since the beginning. Train To Nowhere started my journey with Savoy.

Kim Symmonds is the backbone of Savoy Brown. I've been a keen follower of SB since the late 60's & as for they're still the best despite the line up changes over the yrs. SB are still going strong simply because making music is the main thing they have not derived from & they never got in the rat race of being famous for the sake 0f being famous & all that hoopla that goes along. They still believe strongly in making the fans happy equally with the music that makes them happy. We're all getting older & that can't be avoided but their music still is full of Rock & Rockblues & heart-thumping. I just love SB & wish them all the best & longevity.

I have the first eight Savoy Brown albums. People rarely mention Brice Portius, who sang on their first album. I liked his singing as much as Chris Youldan and Dave Walker's. The first album ('Shake Down') was the first one that I bought (on CD) and remains my favorite. I only saw Kim play live twice (in the 90's.) It was a pleasure to see this legend up close. He rates right up with his British Blues/Rock contemporaries (Clapton, Peter Green, Stan Webb, etc), in my opinion.

I went mainly to see Savoy Brown who was opening for Leon Russell at Rockefeller's in Houston. Took my old "Hellbound Train" and " Lion's Share" albums to see if I could get them signed, I also had the two albums with Pete McMahon they did with me who was fronting that night for S. Brown. After S. Brown played I saw Kim stick his head out of the dressing room door and motion for me to come back and to bring the albums. Got to sit back stage and talk to all the guys for a couple of Leon Russell songs and stayed in touch with Pete and bought all of his solo recordings and the ones he did with the Kingsnakes. Super nice guys. R.I.P. Kim

I started following Kim and Savoy in October 1973 with the purchase of LION'S SHARE.
I have seen Savoy Brown 4 times. The first was that Boogie Brothers 1974 tour.
The bill was Tucky Buzzard, S.B. and Deep Purple. The show I attended was a Friday night mid March show at the Spectrum, Philadelphia, Pa. I was there for Savoy and DP. It was a roudy "festival seat show, meaning no floor seats. There was stuff thrown on stage throughout.
Savoy Brown with Miller Anderson, Stan Webb and Kim on the front line were solid throughout their set.
Deep Purple were on the Burn tour. Their performance at times was ragged. Ritchie did his 10 minute guitar solo smash which really was a complete waste of time! Different types of guitar playing that night!
I saw Savoy on December 3rd, 1975 at a place called the Main Point, in Bryn Mawr, Pa. So I went from watching S.B. in a 20,000 seat rowdy arena, to a 50-80 capacity crowd in a year. The WIRE FIRE show was with Paul Raymond on keys, so that was good seeing him in S.B.
In 1989 Dave Walker, vocalist was in the band for 3 years again. I saw S.B. in a club in Levittown, Pa.
Great pub gig, you could say!
Finally in 2019, I saw the current Savoy Brown line up open for Foghat. Rodger Earl is the last Foghat original and had been in S.B. from 1968-1970. Kim really got that crowd going at Penn's Peak, in the town of Jim Thorpe, PA!!
Some of my fave Savoy Brown albums:
    The Cresendo years
    " Make me Sweat"
    "Kings of Boogie"
And the accompanying live album from 1990, featured singer DAVE WALKER. I highly recommend those albums.
    Also:
    WIRE FIRE,
    LION'S SHARE
    STREET CORNER T.
    HELLBOUND TRAIN
    JACK THE TOAD
    With the 3 Foghats:
    LOOKING IN
    RAW SIENNA
    BLUE MATTER
    A STEP FURTHER
    Recent:
    WITCHY FEELING!
Thanks Pete for the interview with Kim!

Dude's favorite band from high school. Lets see what the fuss was about! First thing I hear is a crackly album that skips! An awful bootleg! I was pissed and miles from the truck stop. I am not all that familiar with Kim or Savoy Brown but I thought it was a great interview and I learned a lot. Hard to believe they have endured for over 50 years.

Love †he Savoy Brown era of the late 60s, A Step Further Album- progressive Jazz(waiting in the bamboo groove) , Boogie(savoy Brown's Boogie) , Funk, Blues, so many styles of this wicked album, would have been cool if there was any live Video from †his era of the band. Foghat was probably the most successful of alot of the players(that became a band) that played in Savoy Brown in the earlier days. Hellbound Train with Dave Walker was a wicked classic track, i almost feel for Kim Siimonds over the years losing so many great players, and he had to carry on . I think all the changes over the years in their line ups was one of the reason they weren't as successful as they could have been? Great interview, seems like a Kind genuine Man. great player.
