Thanks for putting up the tutorial. I've always wondered how to start solo. I never knew how to make the kiln and pots. It was educational to see you do it.
i just played my first game of this like 10 minutes ago and i was completely useless to my people i had no clue how to do anything, i had a kid die suddently and had another baby and had my people help raise her- and i walked around mindlessly till i just decided to starve myself so i can learn the game more before trying again....thank you for this LMAOOO
My first time playing, my mother didn't care for me, I had to leave her when I could grab stuff because she didn't feed me. Lucky enough I was in a big village with. I had to find the kitchen myself, she didn't even name me. Luckily, my uncle and cousin we nice enough to teach me when my mom didn't care. My cousin spent her entire life teaching me how to make different pies. I had to give my first kid away. My second kid grew up and left when she was a toddler. She had a kid who was also new. I spent the last part of my life teaching my grandkid how to make pies. I didn't die from old age, I only had a few minutes so I decided to say my good byes and died from starvation in the process as I only had three food bars lol
Omg you're video is actually the first one that makes sense and get straight to the point! I have been trying to find how to make a fire in this for a week just looking it up and somehow you come up. Thank you!
The problem in my last civilization was people murdering each other or seeing an innocent person who happened to have a knife and killing them because they thought that person was the murderer. Someone killed me before I could even pick stuff up because I had a knife in front of me.

Milkweed is a common plant that can be harvested for a Milkweed stalk. If harvested when fruiting (when it has yellow flowers) then it can be harvested to pick up endless milkweed seeds until it has turned into a stump. If harvested when fruiting, it will regrow after 60 in-game years (60 real minutes). If harvested in its other stage it will not regrow.
Update (4/15/2018): Making Compost. Use Bowl on Berry Bush with six berries. Previous patch was four berries. Add a Carrot to the Bowl of Berries. Mash with a Sharp Stone to create Bowl of Mashed Berries and Carrot. Cut one Straw. Add the Bowl of Mashed Berries and Carrot to the Reed/Straw to make Dry Compost. Add water to Dry Compost to make Wet Compost. Add Worm from a Wormy Empty Fertile Pit. Let it sit for years and it will turn into soil. Compost can be harvested three times before it is used up. The latest update makes sustainable farming more difficult. A village will eventually run out of worms.
Also, adobe can be also put in basket (did not notice he showed it in video), so if you needed to get adobe klin set up somewhere fast, you gotta make clay + (reeds or wheat stolks). Basket is really useful for bringing any medium sized items 3 times, but clay bowl does much better with food item storing, since you can eat directly from it with 1 tick. Also I AGREE the game is not easy to pick up with due the way the communication is so difficult and you need to learn every single term and technique before you can manage. :D It is suggested to try things out at eve stage at empty server so you get used to the way basic items are crafted. There are forums that have many interesting tales and guide to look on.
what do you MEAN babys are bad? if you grow somebody into a child that's another hand for the farm, or another forager to increase the chance of harvest
It would be cool if they made is so that you have to actually mate to have a child. I'd imagine it would have to mark you in a special way to show that you have been copulating lol. Then, you can give birth to the child, and you can have an official lineage for both sides of the family.
the only thing i've found useful about the crafting hints is to see how to make something you know exists, but if you find or make something and don't know what it could be used for, there's no way to know. Like if I realize how to make a clay bowl... I can't lookup what a clay bowl goes into making (like a pie) I'd have to know I can make a pie, and then backtrack to the bowl I've made (because I saw someone made a bowl). over time of course you get to know some items, but there are tools where if you don't spell or type them exactly, it just doesn't know. I find this to be the most frustrating part of the game, aside from hitting a wall if you don't have many milkweed nearby. that will kill you very very very very very quickly
I'm surprised you say boys are kept more often than girls; in most societies I've been a part of the girls are valuable and the boys are a bit superfluous. You only have an hour to set your legacy, and most baby girls won't make it to adulthood.
If your society is not very advanced, then the majority of girls will not make it to adulthood. If your society is advanced, then you can feed the children and you need more people in order to expand. The only argument for boys being the better option is maybe a smallish village.
this game seems so fun but even with help you really have no idea what your doing and the most of your time is spent trying to eat instead of building or doing whatever else. You never live long enough to actually do something you feel proud of before you die.

It’s actually insane how little tutorials I can find on the building of a civilization. Lots of “Let’s Play” and maybe one thing or another, but no general overview on best civilization building concepts or a video on the Tech Tree, unless I am totally missing how to find them? Someone recommend me a video in particular? Like what is the best farming schematic, or where should the kitchen be in relation to the farm, how many sheep to sustain the pies and clothing, etc? I guess such a video would be too broad.

When they've grown I'll ask them to either finish off the fire tools if I haven't made it that far or ask them to collect either soil or wild food for camp whilst I make the kiln and gather clay for bowls and plates. (Better to collect it yourself, kids may not survive the swamp temp, or at least wont be as efficient as an adult) Once you've got bowls you're good to get farm up n running. Oh final tip on that, if you don't have the milkweed to make a stone hoe, use skewers to at least get a few plots going before people starve. Its a race against time from when you start keeping kids to when the free wild food runs low, so don't keep them all, only how many you think will be able to support resource wise. Wait... keeping your food meter away from its current max value can act as a form of birth control?
Yes. It helps some.
