I remember when the house was moved . It was a big deal to preserve this historical building . I Also remember drinking my first beer there long ago when an older friend of mine took me there when I was 15 in 1980 when it was opened as a pub . . The House was owned by the Silverthorn family . I lived on Cawthra Rd my parents house was 3475 Cawthra . As a child growing up and living in Applewood Heights area of Mississauga I went to a public school named after this family Silverthorn Public School . Also played in a Park named after them on Cawthra Rd just before Bloor St . Good memories long ago,
wow am surprised that you actually went up on the steps/porch to view as when i went there, just crossing their pathway freaked me out lol. as much as i wanted to go up, hmmm
I used to work in Mississauga a long time ago. It USED to have History. I remember the very last Farm house in the City burning down to the ground. To this day I think it was set on fire.... As mater of fact, right across Canada used to have much more History at one time.. Where did it all go you ask? Very simple.. The Liebral Party of Canada have many friends. On top of that list is the property "developers". I watched and fought to save a number of those buildings a long time ago. They where a many of us who fought to save our History... I'am sure to this very day that a number of "lieberals" pocketed a lot of money in replacing the old buildings with new. And yes.... The Liebral Party are friends with the property developers.....
I grew up in Mississauga in the early 1970's when Cawthra Rd was two lanes one up and one down . I remember there was nothing much after Cawthra and Bloor intersection , the Valley was undeveloped and was a magic place for a young boy to wander through . with its collection of old farms overgrown by bush . Long before the building of Sq.One shopping center . They should have tried to protest every historical building . It is a shame to erase history .
