Natpoli Matfia would never have won the hell tofu challenge let’s be real (not denying he’s definitely a good chef). However chef Edward Lee has always brought his A game and creativity in every single dish. Not one is ever the same. He’s more versatile and is so passionate and respectful of food! Nothing against Natpoli but EL should have won. IMO, it’s quite obvious from the get go that blacks or a ‘local’ Korean would win.

even just watching couple of episodes of the show, to me the editing choice is so obvious. It's so predictable who's going to win, the only unpredictable part of it was they actually went with it. I didn't think they'd be that cringe and they actually went with it. The way the 2nd round ended exactly with an even 50/50 split between black and white chef is just...
not to mention those black chef that won and got saved, they are the kind of chef that seems more interesting for tv and overall dynamic of the show.
I don't care if they make it dramatic, but if they get Gordon as the judge there, I would've binged the whole thing as fast as I could.
If you think about it, if the white chef keeps winning, audience are going to think oh it's expected, look at their accomplishment, but at the same time, it becomes boring and pointless, not just to audience but future contestants. Even when they get to top15, which is an odd number the split is still pretty even with 7/8, as close as it can get to a 50/50. It just seems so obvious. Not to mention the way the Michelin starred chef keeps getting eliminated by the black spoon 5x in a row or something, is playing into the premise of the show that anyone have a chance to be known. it's kind of a way to undermine the credibility of Michelin star, because the audience will be like oh looks like Michelin star isn't that big of a deal, you can be just as good if you don't get any stars. Which is technically true but you can see how it plays into the narrative.

    • @legolindirteso9430
      @legolindirteso9430 18 дней назад

      Why should he have won?
      Because of his creativity?
Is it the most important when you taste something?
Sure a nice plate invite you to eat, but if it doesn't suit your taste...
Also, Napoli, with the convenient store challenge, was the only one who thought about the chefs.
Most of us are westerners and think that Michelin Star matter the most. Sorry to disagree and disappoint, but a Michelin star isn't necessarily about having the best taste.
Michelin star is about the overall quality of the restaurant, not only the food.
Gauet-Millaud guide represent more the food aspect.

    • @legolindirteso9430
      @legolindirteso9430 18 дней назад

Question for you: do you know what are the criteria for being a Michelin star chef?
Why are they previous Michelin star chefs who let go their star?
First of all, Michelin is extremely elitist, and not exclusively about food. It's about how you restaurant look, the service, the balance quality/price, creativity, duration and publicity.
Being a Michelin star chef means you can cook very well, for sure, but that doesn't mean it will be the best.
Many great chef around the world don't care about being in the Michelin star guide.
Michelin is, mostly, french cuisine and some revisited dishes.
You will rarely find any traditional national, no matter the country, with Michelin star.
Michelin star guide is almost exclusively for westerners. Most asian people don't care about it.
If Michelin star was about the food first then many street restaurants in south Asia would have 3 stars...

I agree that he's one of the best chefs in the culinary class war. However, in terms of taste during the final mission, I don't think his dessert can compete with a main dish the judges described as a 'full-course meal.' They said the 'Napoli Mafia' dish perfectly delivered all the components in one meal. The final theme was about putting 'your name' on the line, which felt like a way of showcasing the best dish-similar to the first episode, but with added meaning, making it more special and even poetic. Still, I agree with the sentiment that the finale could have been better. A three-dish contest would have been a more fitting way to determine the winner.

What made me think it’s really scripted is the tofu challenge where Chef Hyun Seok Choi made that dish. From the early rounds, we all know he’s smart and knows how to play the game well. It’s hard to believe he chose that dish when he knew it would overpower the tofu.

Honestly predicted every winner for each round except the semi finals to create a dish that would inspire. Overall just based on how they describe their opinion about the dish and the creativity and technique level is enough to guess who will stay and who will not. Honestly don't care if it was somewhat scripted, but overall it was an interesting show and I do see that they were all cooking at a very high level as well. At one point before the finals there was 3 black spoon and 1 white spoon, ironically it was odd no one ever attempted to make a dessert out of tofu and bang someone just did coincidentally as the last dish. I can't say if it was completely scripted as based on skill wise I could easily put triple star to be on the Finals based on his composure and skills. Some of the Favorites early on the competition got eliminated as they made odd choices. Also in the early rounds why do they only pick black spoons to come back to compete like comic book chefs are purely because they saw potential and they were curious to see if they'll improve more. There are certain decisions that I was able to predict but did not expect throughout the competition that black and white would be equal in members. The only part that seems unfair was the team stage where 3 that contributed less will be removed on their previous teams to create a new one. They did not even increase their budget despite they are also very few compared to other teams who have 4 or 5 members.

    • @88feji

They even let more losing black spoons back just to maintain an equal number from both sides to progress ... thats just obvious manipulation.
It makes sense from viewership point of view to not let one side become too dominant, it also make sense to let the villain of the show (Napoli) get into the final easily with just 1 dish just to maintain tension in the finale ... villains usually go quite far in many reality shows ....

I do not for a moment believe that the blacks miraculously began to maintain equal footing for the rest of the episodes, they had help from the producers and biased judging ... even with the blind fold judging, I'm sure there are ways (which are edited out of course) for the judges to hint at which is the black one to win ...

There was almost everything wrong with this show. First of all, it was always 2 jury members, while it is good if multiple guest jury members are invited, for example someone who judges gastronomy or innovation, but no, it was always the same jury members who disagreed with each other. Also, the focus was only on taste instead of looking at how innovative the chefs were. Here Edward had seriously shown that he could not only make pasta like his opponent. The challenges were also often unfair, so in my eyes this was a sensational show that had an eye for viewers who do not know much about food and like drama

I mean of course they'd have to rig the show a little bit to make it more equal on both black spoins and white spoons sides. Why would they make a show where there are only white spoons who already have a name for themselves-. You could argue they could have more black spoons but then it would also be less exciting since its a bunch of people we have to keep referring to as "triple star" or "cooking maniac" etc. etc.
I do have a question. In the first episode did they not split the 80 black spoons into 2 groups of 40? Did they only show one of the groups and just not aired tbe second one? Or was it just clipped into one episode (which im assuming is the case but the editing made it seem like only one group was allowed through)

The restaurant challenge felt dumb, as the guests were offered a significant budget to indulge in whatever they wanted to eat. It made it so that the teams that strategized for budget-worthy meals basically did not have a chance to win. If you want me to eat a lobster normally worth around 7$ priced at $40, there's no way I would consider that. But if you give me a budget of $200, then why the h*ll not?? If the other teams had gotten the memo from the start that the guests would have a huge budget, then I'm pretty sure they'd jack up their prices as well.

Actually I had a friend (white, blonde) move to South Korea. It was her dream to teach English there. She said they were incredibly racist to her, and were very anti-internationalism. That being said, it’s still so heartbreaking to hear how the audience was against Jung Ji-sun just because she married a foreigner? The comments and hate she’s getting are wild. I understand preserving culture (look how Central Europe is going downhill. It’s where I live), but there’s no need for such behavior.
I think everyone is in agreement that Edward Lee should’ve won, but Napoli Mafia was amazing. As was Triple Star (he wowed me from the beginning). So I can imagine, maybe citizenship had something to do with it. Maybe.
All this to say, I don’t think anything looked rigged. Of course we can never know, but I can’t imagine that being rigged, it was very real. The voice-actor thing is quite the stretch. If anything, blame the editing, which I thought was good regardless.
It’s my own dream to go to South Korea, just on vacation, as I love the culture, food, and especially the movies and TVs. I have many South Korean friends, and it seems like a beautiful and exciting place!

I personally liked that they tried to keep the black/white equals by balancing their numbers, but then why create an unfair 3vs4vs4vs4? That could easily have been solved by bringing back a White Chef who was eliminated in the Meat/Fish challenge. This chef would need to be chosen by both judges as to make it more theatrical. (I'd have picked Ferrari to stay, dude was an absolute blast and ray of sunshine)
The suspense was too heavy and sometimes made it feel staged. With less intense editing and more cooking shots it would've been a bit less dramatic and feel less like a staged Black/White.

I was wondering too ... why is he repeatedly allowed to create his favourite western dishes while others are eliminated for relying too much on their style ?
The judges do not seem to apply their criteria in that way ....

Should have known as he's obviously the show's villain due to his disrespectful arrogance, keeping him around till the end would maintain dramatic interest of course ....

I was so dissapointed after they announce the winner i immediate turn off the tv.
    How come he won?
    He show no respect.
Chef Edward Lee so humble from the very beginning of the show.
    Napoli couldn't survive the tofu.
Oh my goodness Im so pissed off.
This so was so unfair and bias.

Seonkyung was insufferable the entire series. The two judge format was okay but they deferred Anh Sung Jae in literally every 1:1 so it didnt really feel fair sometimes

It's a cooking show... I doubt they'd go to great lengths to conspire in there but I'm sure that, like any other reality TV show, they probably pulled some strings here and there to keep things going in the direction the producers felt would be most interesting.
Is it fair? Probably not. I honestly doubt the guy who won is really the best chef among the 100's we saw compete. But I don't think anyone who participates in that kind of show really expects that it's going to be perfectly fair like a sanctioned athletic competition would be. It's mostly a promotional tool for the participants.
I think they could've just avoided some of the controversy by being more transparent. For instance when the judges brought back participants, they could very well just have stated plainly that they were looking only at black spoons. Even if that had been only a personal choice of the judges. I would've seen nothing wrong with them saying they would consider only black spoon given that they want to give them more exposure, or that they're being less forgiving with the white spoons in early rounds given their experience.
