this video was one of the most difficult ones for me to do as i find it hard enough to open up to close friends and family.
however this has made me realise that there are probably far to many people that struggle to open up, leading to the situation worsening and eventually becoming the unthinkable.

I've never met you and probably never will, be I feel emotional just watching this. I've struggled for over 20 years with my mental health. (I'm 34) very low mood, struggle with anxiety, what people think of me, and always trying to please others. I do talk about my mental health to others but sadly nobody knows what to do with me. That for me is the saddest part. Anyway, well done for saying it and having the courage to put it out there.

Thanks for bringing awareness to this mate. I'm 22 in the Tramping lifestyle.
Can't lie sometimes it gets rough & its almost unavoidable getting inside your own head.
One thing that I found helped me, was getting out and having a walk once I'm parked up (If possible), I max out my hours every week but I find it so important to make time in my rest periods just to take a little stroll disconnected from social media and what not.

What you said about getting inside your own head is so true! I'm ex military and I tramped for a couple of years when I left the Army and hated it. I split from my Mrs in that time. I was deployed to Africa for a year and that didn't bother us but wagon driving was the one to do it 😂 I was just never home, living in a cab, struggling to stay fit, struggling to eat healthy and hygiene is a problem when showers aren't always available. It can be such a grim life. I now drive nights on £20ph through and agency and love it. Hope you are getting on alright though, mate. Friends and family are always there.

You have shown tremendous courage to say what you’ve said and I personally wish you happiness and health. Thank you 🙏🏻

Not a trucker ( yet 🤞) but always able to listen to any problems you have. Starting this channel was really smart as you can express yourself online, hopefully making the trips sometimes seem a little less lonely.
I have had a rough time after highschool as I didn’t know what I wanted to do for a job. I didn’t want to do University and had barely no career plan since I had no interests at the time. It was difficult and I was really upset just trying to find anything as a career choice. I even considered the army ( driver ironically ) but happened to get rejected due to anxiety in my medical records. Finding your channel and the information you gave about the life of a lorry or HGV driver, both pros and cons, has really helped me find motivation to get into it as a career. If it wasn’t for you, I would still be spiralling out of control with a job I wouldn’t want. Thank you for all the information and feedback to any of my questions, you’ve really helped me plan out my future.

Good video friend as a man we feel it some kind of weakness but much more common than people realise, everybody deals with thing's different, what's an issue for you another would laugh off ,you have to go through the experience to understand but long hours v various shifts, night work, money issues can wear you down over time with out realising before your in trouble, always reach out to someone , anyone as much as you need you can get through and be stronger but it takes as long as it takes, months maybe year's but we all have a worth just stick with it .

Well done for making this video, it can't have been easy to open up. I'm a firm believer that the first step to recovery from any problem is to be brave enough to acknowledge the problem, and I hope you feel better already for doing so. Talking through problems with people who can relate to them is often better than just friends and family as they can better understand your perspective. It's also sometimes easier to open up to complete strangers without feeling embarrassed Your GP could point you in the direction of a local support group.
    Take care mate.

Props to you for the courage to open up like this and being honest about it. From my personal experience, the most important steps are
    1) acknowledge there is a mental health problem with you;
    2) if it is getting too much for you (i.e. you are starting to feel overwhelmed) talk to someone / seek help (the worst thing is to keep it to yourself/bottle it up which is when the risks of suicide are the highest).

I can relate to everything you’ve spoken about as after 26 yrs of driving I quit my job (2yrs ago) now and haven’t driven since. There were so many things that piled up over time, favouritism, bullying etc etc that in the end my wife knew there was something wrong and told me to quit so I did and I’ve not looked back since. Great words by yourself 👍

@@truckitprayle I was like that every day I stepped into work. I always loved driving trucks but didn’t particularly like the work as I did a lot of store deliveries but it was more the place and the way in which it was run! It was toxic. I have no regrets leaving and with 2 yrs still left on my license before renewal I have considered going back but tbh I do t think I ever will now. Too much red tape

What a interesting video. Mental health is just as Important as physical health. I've had my struggles in the past. I've spoken to people and I am not alone and alot of people can relate. Its not just the job, its the world we live in now, it's a mad mad world. Don't get me wrong I have good days and bad days still. The gym was a big one for me when started tramping, what I do now I either go jogging or put dumbells in a empty container if I have one on the back on a evening with a training mat and smash it out in there, try and work around it. The gym does help alot with mental health. Good video mate I'm here if you ever need to talk or any other drivers on here.

It says negative hartful things to anyone else. I am such an idiot; I'm a phony; I never do anything right; I will never succeed."
"The inner critic isn't harmless. It inhibits you, limits you, and stop you from pursuing the life you truly want to live. It robs you of peace of mind and emotional well-being and, if left unchecked long enough, it can even lead to serious mental health problems like depression or anxiety."

I'm ex military. Got my licence in the Army and thought HGV driving would be a good career when i came out. I was tramping for 2 years and it messed me up big time. I was never home, living in a cab, not able to keep fit, not able to eat right, worring about getting a shower every night and I was on terrible money. Me and my Mrs split up. Just wasnt worth it. I'd rather have been deployed to Afghanistan for 2 years. Wagon driving can be horrible and being alone all week can really mess your head up because you are thinking and worrying ALL THE TIME. If you are a new driver, test the waters and see what you like before jumping head first into a certain job. Look after yourself and definitely, definitely learn to say no!!

I've been driving trucks for 10 years but, in that time, I've only had about 2 or 3 FULL TIME jobs, the reason being because its too highly exploitative like you say in this video (no family time, poor health, loneliness etc ) so I personally refuse to do it full time but, it's not good because I can't plan my life properly.
I think trucking in the UK is just not good as they simply do not respect us!
