Bought dad a Leatherman years ago. He loved it and wore it on his belt everywhere. I had a Gerber and loved it because I worked on cars. I could get it out of the belt case with one hand and with a flip of one wrist open it to the pliers. Very handy but I lost it. Dad passed away so now I have his Leatherman. Have had other brands but none match up to either of those.

wave and surge for me. helped me survive 2 super typhoons while i was in PI. kept abusing em and took it like a champ. i especially love how solid the knives that come with surge and wave. it's almost like a small fixed blade

I have not used a lot of multi tools but I have a leather man surge and I am in love with it. It's the only thing I have ever bought on a whim and not done a ton of research first. Great tool. Highly recommend it for any adult. Leather man Rebar is a good starter too or for kids since it's a bit smaller but still a great tool.

I needed something with the essential tools and a carabiner clip, the Signal had more tools than the skeletool so I chose that and I love it for EDC and work. I keep a Leatherman OHT in my bugout bag and a SOG PowerAssist in my truck and a Wave at home.

The signal also has a hammer end for pounding in tent stakes a receiver end for torqs or different size screwdriver ends. Good review! I noticed the sogs weren't as comfortable in the hand. But they used to have the push out pliers which were cool back in the day.

I have my favourites at hand. The Signal, along with the ratchet driver, in one side pocket, plus one pack of the most likely to be used bits with a Micra in the back pocket of the pouch. Covers pretty much any scenario you can expect and others you don't. Then in the other small side pocket I carry a Lenser single AA battery torch.

Great Vid as always...I try to roll with minimal weight...I started carrying a leatherman squirt with a Victorinox Cadet on a mini locking S biner..Very light weight and easy to carry around..It has been great and between them I have everything i usually need, If not I carry a Skeletool CX with the bits in my EDC to back me up..Keep Up the good work! and God Bless.

I have a Wave and love it, Surge was way outta my price range here in Aus, I found the Wave on a good special. Also have a Wingman I picked up b4 they too got pricey here - picked the Wingman because it's a bit more Urban EDCish than the Sidekick. Kinda want a Juice XE6 but love my CS4.

My favorites are the Squirt PS4, Surge and Charge. I always have the Squirt with me because of its size. The Surge is the most useful multi tool for heavier uses. The Charge is the most comfortable of the Leatherman range to actually use and like you said in the video, you can actually pocket carry it.

I cant remember how many times I've watched this video. I love MT's and of course the Leatherman Surge is the best MT on the market right now and has been for a while...so I went all out on it and bought the works. Bout $160 when everything is said and done, but when you buy the bit kit & extender you have a really great mini tool kit in a small package that is great for INCH/BOB's !! I have a video up if anyone wants to check out my thoughts and carry options for the Surge particularly. I did the same thing as you Jack and put the mini fire steel on the lanyard after seeing your initial Surge video. I'm not big on the Gerber MT's or pretty much any new Gerber gear period...but I would like to see your thoughts/review on the new Gerber Center Drive, which I'm sure everyone else would too! Anyways, hope everyone here had a great turkey day! Later.

That brand is nice, but I decided to purchase the Gerber multi-tool because it has a larger knife blade on it and also have many other tools I would need if in the forest, or desert. I saw the Leatherman brand, but decided against theirs as I needed something larger and usable like that knife blade. This tool have the two sided file on it also along with the saw blade .

Used to have the Kershaw multi-tool. It was locking needle nose vice grips. One hand opening knife. Everything was replaceable. They stopped making it. I found that out after I sent it in for warranty. I have been debating picking one up used on ebay as I see them every so often. Otherwise I just use the Gerber I've been issued, which I'm not fond of as it lacks a lot of the features you speak of favoring.

I think Rebar trumps wave. More compact better tool selection. One hand opening is not really needed IMO on a multitool. I have a surge it does not get much use. My issue with it is the blade exchanger. You cannot just drop it in your pocket and have a complete tool. You have a choice of a file or a saw neither is permanently attached and gets carried separately and can get lost. ST300 is a better choice IMO.

I definatley agree. I've done some major work with the Surge. It's the best multitool I have ever owned. But some asshole stole it from me. After that I bought a Charge TTI Titanium. Instant favorite. It's got only about 90% of the functionality of the Surge but its so much nicer. The Surge is a working mans tool (hell mine sometimes doubled as a hammer) and as such it is the better multitool. However I take greater pleasure in owning the Charge TTI. Does that make sense?

Here's my best multi tools. I split this in two, what i have and what i want. What i want; air travel: leatherman style ps. survival: signal, wave, surge, rebar, or wingman. EDC: style, style ps or cs, micra or skeletool. What i have is the skeletool Now, i asked my dad what his favorite Leatherman for being a firefighter/paramedic is: his 20 year old wave. What he wants is to use as a back up is the raptor. What im going to try to get him is the skeletool RX.

CedricAda Gear and Outdoors The Surge is the best multitool out of those three by far.
However, the best tool is not always the tool you prefer.
Victorinox have excellent build quality and qc but they are alot less rugged than a full size leatherman tool. I believe vic's are more corrosion resistant aswell.
The Gerbers have some unique features that some will prefer but in terms of build quality they cannot compare to similiar size LM.
I would advice you to look at SOG aswell. Those are the big four in multitools.
(You will find me carrying either Charge TTi, Surge or Victorinox Swisschamp. For light EDC its hard to beat the swisschamp)

A lot of it depends on the application. I have to second the skeletool EDC recommendation. Been wearing one almost every day for over 2 years. I hang it off of my belt loop and it is easy to take on and off and open the blade one handed. Countless times it has saved me having to go back to the truck for a tool when at job sites. Plus you always have a bottle opener handy for beer :)

The leatherman signal is better than the wave and surge because it can perform all of the same functions you would often use on your surge and wave and is not only lighter but has survival functions. It's better from an edc standpoint and a survival standpoint (IMO). But hey, to each their own

I really like the Rebar. The only thing it is missing is scissors. I always have a Swiss Army classic on me so it covers me there. The Wingman is a good size but I don't like the serrated blade, the scissors suck, and the package opener is a waste of space. I would trade it for a medium size flat blade screwdriver, or a full size phillips driver, or a better file, or an awl. The Wave is great but too bulky to use the pocket clip. The scissors are small but very useful. The Sidekick would be good if they replaced the serrated blade for a small pair of scissors like the Wave's scissors. I haven't used the Surge but the Supertool is too bulky to carry. It is a good glove box or Bug out tool. IMHO.

    • @DamionJR4923
      @DamionJR4923 7 лет назад

Larry Banks I use them to cut fingernails and the Wingman's don't. I had the lock fail on one pair. Letherman's customer service was good but I still think the scissors suck unless you are cutting paper.
