I honestly never used to understand Loni when she constantly made comments about men who didn’t have money and why it was a problem. But now girl, i do and I am with you!
I was lucky enough until recently to not ever have to deal with this issue. I am a very independent woman, I pay my own way in this world but will never turn down a man who I’m dating or interested in who wants to be chivalrous and old fashioned and pay for something for me - I think that’s hella sweet and I’m happy to return the favour later.
But recently my ladies, I started kind of seeing a man who was a bit younger than me and it became very clear to me quite quickly his entire life that all the woman in his life have babied him, given him money, driven him around and praise him for absolutely everything.
He never picked me up once, I had to pick him up every time we went out like I was driving miss daisy (as Adrienne once said). He was unemployed and had just signed a contract for a new job so barely had any money. I was kind enough as we were dating to give him some money one day when he really wanted to play golf with him mate and he didn’t have anything. It cost 30 bucks! That’s how broke this boy was! But I was generous and gave it to him. Also when we went to drive throughs for McDonald’s I would pay for his meals or whatever cause it was small stuff. I’m generous, at the time he was treating me with mad respect and it didn’t bother me.
Then this little boy DARED to call me one night asking me to transfer him money so he could buy cigarettes or come over and bring ciggies with me. When I laughed and said he had to be joking (cause I had actually already bought him a pack of ciggies before without him asking when he was out) he said he was - which he wasn’t and asked me to come over anyway.
I started to notice he only called me when he wanted something and tonight even after cutting him off this cocky man child called me asking to see me and then again made a “joke”about me bringing him ciggies, but it was only a joke when I told him he was bugging.
It’s not about money. It’s about independence. If a man has a job or a car, you know he can take care of himself - he is not relying on no one because he relies on himself.
I agree with loni, I’m tapping out men who say they are “men” and “grown” but have the audacity to expect other people to pay their way in life - those are little boys, let’s not get it twisted.
