  • The Military Armament Corp - MAC 9 DS 2011 comes in at a great value for a true 2011 firearm. All the bells and whistles, and most importantly, QUALITY.
    The fact it's designed by an AMERICAN company is a huge PLUS.

    Did my first range with the MAC DS9 and compared it to my Stacatto CS. Very similar in shooting but whats crazy is shooting with just my dominant hand (right), the DS9 was more stable and comes back to target than the CS. I was blown away by that. Granted, the build quality on the Stacatto is better and its not the same barrel length but i just thought i'd share that bit. If in 1 year i dont carry my CS, i will sell it and keep this DS9 for matches. My main carry is p365 x macro - didnt like it in the beginning but its very nice now after a couple of months of shooting it. Just dont focus too much on the "toy" trigger :)

    So my issue is that this gun would end up getting stippled...that means 200+ dollars going into just the texture alone. The Prodigy texture is really solid out of the box, and if you have an issue with the internals, well 134 will solve that, and you can get an EGW guide rod to go with it, so you end up with a pretty solid setup for around 1300-1400. Now, this is of course assuming you stick with the optics footprint that Springfield provides, and you don't buy another plate. I'm personally leaving most of the internals (besides the disconnector), and swapping the safeties for Atlas IDPA high rides, and an EGW guide rod. I may swap the trigger at some point, but honestly I'm happy with my trigger as is, I tuned it and the reset is almost instant, with a pull weight of around 3lbs 8oz (might be able to go lighter, just don't really see the need).

    Tisas makes the gun for MAC. There are only a few tweaks that MAC specified. Compare it to the LFA Apollo 11. Tisas is building a good gun. I say that despite my Tisas on recall for hammer follow and a non-functioning safety. Tisas was upfront and responded quickly. Great customer service. Tisas is building a plant in the US.

    Have both Tisas B9R doublestacks, duty and carry. Haven't shot either yet but if they're anything like my Stingray was they will be reliable and accurate. They compare favorably to my Prodigy and Platypus in build, and the triggers are nearly as good as my Platy. The Prodigy has the stuffest trigger of them all, and even it isn't that far off. The MAC looks great, I'll have to get one one day, but 4 doublestack 1911s is good for now I think...

    I was interested, but ended up going with the Prodigy after shooting a few. The launch of the Prodigy really served as a reminder for other companies...
    So, here's my thing about the MAC offering. You start at around 1000, you pay maybe 200 or so for a stipple job, maybe you invest another 130-200 for some internal parts, maybe you drop 50-70 on a trigger that you like. Heck, the grip texture alone brings up in line with the prodigy. Now, then there's the subject of the optics mounting system. RMR cut is nice, but the AOS cut is also a nice solution in my opinion, and it allowed me to go with a plate that moves the rear irons in front of the optic.
    The last point is kinda a personal thing. I don't want to buy a gun from Turkey...I just don't like the idea of giving them money. I understand that Springfield has their own fuckups, but they supposedly spent a lot of time trying to rectify them.

    • @Rhamlin7
      @Rhamlin7 7 месяцев назад

      Issue with the prodigy is you have to spend a few more hundred to make it relaible. I think thr apollo 11 is the best bag for the buck with no mim parts at 1000. You can spend the difference you save of a few hundred and make it even better.

    • @6.5mm_is_the_best_mm
      @6.5mm_is_the_best_mm 7 месяцев назад

      The Tisas DS can be had for $630 to $700 right now. That is the best value in my opinion. Some people won't like the rmsc cut or the bushing barrel, but I prefer the classic 1911 look and don't mind the takedown procedure. Everyone who shoots one or takes it apart marvels at what an amazing job they did at that price point. Forged slide, barrel, frame and internal parts, no mim. I will probably pick up a Bul or Prodigy at some point. Maybe when I see a good online sale. Also, I heard the Apollo 11 chokes on hollow point quite often. I don't think the issues are worked out with it yet.@@Rhamlin7

    • @Rhamlin7
      @Rhamlin7 7 месяцев назад

      Well once the FR is polished that HP issue goes away. Also the spring could stand to be changed from 7lbs to 9 or 10 then it's flawless. Easy and cheap fix. I'll say that it should come from the factory running properly, but thus far their customer service is impeccable.

      Tisas/MAC has standard mil spec 1911 internals. Any 1911 parts will work, but as with all 1911s they may need fitting. I don't see why you'd want to change internals since they're not mim.

      @FatGuyWithGuns  7 месяцев назад +1

      Honestly it’s pretty similar. The Prodigy is anywhere from $300 to $500 more and I don’t see why. The slide on the Prodigy seems smoother but I have a 9lb spring and tool less guide rod in it. The spring in the MAC is at least 14lbs. I’ll change it out and see if it makes a huge difference.
