Wow, traditional 5 speed AT are definitely much larger than CVT transmissions, I prefer a traditional AT anytime even though they may be old technology and contain more parts. How many of you viewers agree with me. :)
Hey man do you suggest Toyota Corolla 1.8L hybrid with cvt. Is there any problems with the engine or transmission. I just don’t want to spend money on the car but regular maintenance.
Man, that pillow case sure looked comfy! Lol About the trans, do you think the filter might have just been clogged up enough with old gunk that the fluid pressure was insufficient to operate the trans eventually? Also, I'd love to see a teardown of a ZF 8HP trans out of something. They're in pretty much everything these days..
@@speedkar99 Agreed! I think it is kind of inevitable that any automatic transmission will produce some particles from the wearing of all of those clutches. Once they begin to impede the flow of the filter, it's probably a downward spiral from there. I really need to service some of my transmissions! 😅
ZF gearbox are legendary! Not just in the automotive industry but also in the marine industry. They always have the smoothest gearshift and rock solid reliability. This one is obviously abused and neglected, that's why it is overheated and burnt.
These 5 speed automatics were honestly not that great especially when not maintained. Most of the RWD 5 speed automatics weren’t that good. Ford had failures, GM also had problems with theirs as well, Chryslers version had torque converter failures, and even the Nissan and version had some issues but it was caused by coolant mixing with the transmission fluid. Even the bulletproof Mercedes-Benz 722.6 had some problems as well. The only good RWD 5 speed auto is the ones used in Toyota and Lexus models. Thankfully we got more durable 6 and 8 speed automatic transmissions today. No transmission in my opinion has lifetime transmission fluid. This is a common practice that every single car manufacturer uses to appeal to customers. They want to make money selling more vehicles. If that transmission was maintained, it wouldn’t have failed earlier in the car’s lifetime.

Speedcar99 loves the smell of burned transmission fluid in the morning..... it smells like victory. 😂
It sure does!
Wow this poor transmission is super burned up! I wonder what happened to it.
Most of the time its run low on fluid,or cooler failure or never changed fluid and filter!
If its anything like my bmw it was thrashed
Towing and burn outs too
@@speedkar99 Yes,that too!
Wow!
Nice to see the internals of my E34 transmission 👍
Yep it's somewhat simple but interesting
Owners definitely never changed the trans oil, love the videos.
I think it was over worked

CVT sucks. They get even hotter and fail earlier than regular AT. Specially bad the subaru CVT on the crosstrek and Nissan, and Ford
Agreed! CVT is more compact
That was run low on oil, and got very hot... Somebody was doing some street takeover donuts with that ZF 😂😂
It sure seems like an overheat issue
Glad you're using a different family member's toothbrush besides your brother's.
His bro’s mouth must be well-lubricated!
😂😂😂
amazing as usual
Thanks again!
As soon as i saw that first clutch pack drum and fluid, i can only imagine what that area smelt like
Big time smelly. Wife does not like
The zf nice, always wanted to see what make them great
It's a simple design.

Yes they're a good car. Toyota's hybrid has been proven for a long time now.
I am surprised you got those pan torx bolts without stripping them :) cause they are 27 and not 25!
I'm surprised I got them off too!!
Mine is zf6hp19 in an e90 325i. I experienced some weird hesitation when the gearbox is hot and replacing the fluid seems to fix it.
I guess these are fluid sensitive
Would "drifting" cause this type of damage?
Possibly, because it's very hard on the transmission
Isn't the manual transmission in OBS Fords a ZF 5?
Man, that pillow case sure looked comfy! Lol

I'd love to teardown an 8 speed too!
The filter will eventually get clogged but by what? Particules coming off the clutches and other wear surfaces.

your favorite, more snap rings
Ahh I hate them

How exactly do you abuse and neglect a gearbox?
@@greathey1234 try burn outs and neglected regular maintenance
@@greathey1234 people think the oil lasts forever, never check the oil level, run it on a wrong gear (instead of D, people run it in 3rd, or 2nd
Fluid, temperature and operation.
Manual shifting without rev matching takes its toll too
If that's done 10 thousand miles it's really crap, if it's done 1 million miles it's fantastic.
So when you rebuild a transmission, what parts do y ou actually replace? Just the burned clutch plates??
The bearings, shims, seals.
I am terrified of my Honda fit 5 speed auto. I change the fluid once a year.
stuntman for president
I had my vote
Ive seen one look exactly like this from being stuck in the mud and slamming it from drive to reverse over and over.
Yeah getting stuck in the snow ain't easy on the transmission!

Tearing down a torn up transmission.
It's fun breaking into stuff you don't have to fix
Hey, when are you going to use your own toothbrush ?? You have probably used up all of your brother's clothing. Hahaha......
As I use he will have to buy more. The cycle keeps going
That looked like your wife's new toothbrush. Maybe give it a good cleaning and put it back and she won't be so mad at you.
Nah no need to clean it just put it back
Oops no 3rd gen Prius video yet?
No. My yard is a mess with parts. Still parting out the rest of the car.
