  • The Metropolitan Cathedral "Descent of the Holy Spirit", a new building consecrated in 2019, is located near the entrance to the Slatioara Monastery, which is dedicated to the "Transfiguration", erected by the Holy Hierarch Glicherie the Confessor in 1947, the founder of the Old Style (Calendar) Orthodox Church and featured by us in this video: • Mănăstirea pe stil vec... . The Slătioara complex, located in the village of Slătioara, Râșca commune, Suceava county, is the main headquarters of the Old Style Orthodox Church in Romania.
The foundation stone of the cathedral was laid in 1994 by Metropolitan Vlasie Mogârzan. The construction lasted quite a long time, 25 years, but the value, complexity and beauty of the works justify this time. The building was erected with the effort and funds of "Christians everywhere." The consecration of the cathedral took place on October 6 (23, in the old style), the Holy Mass being officiated by His Eminence Metropolitan Vlasie Mogârzan accompanied by a council of bishops from the country and abroad. Recently, on January 25 (February 7) 2022, the cathedral was the place of the enthronement in the rank of Archbishop and Metropolitan of the Slatioara Metropolitanate of the Most Holy Bishop Demosten Neamțeanul.
There is a lot to say about the overwhelming beauty of the cathedral, but it still remains. That's why I couldn't even decide what and how to cut from filming to shorten the video. Unfortunately, there is no adequate information, the architectural and pictorial program remaining accessible only to the initiates. The cathedral is full of symbolism that a layman like me cannot comprehend. That's why we didn't even do a subtitle to describe what we see. However, the image of the Holy Hierarch Glicherie the Confessor, the founder of the Old Style Orthodox Church in Romania, is present in a place of honor in several places of the cathedral.
The monks from Slătioara appreciate that mural painting and architecture are true masterpieces, how they are required of a cathedral. In the porch of the cathedral, the Mother of God and the holy Archangels are made of several thousand colored pieces of pottery. The 12 apostles are represented on the outside by 12 marble elements, placed on columns joined together by arches.
The cathedral is dedicated to the "Descent of the Holy Spirit" also known as ”Whitsun” or "Pentecost" or "White Sunday" or ”Whitsunday” (8th Sunday after Easter), or 50 days after Easter (hence the name Pentecost) and 10 days after the Ascension, common feasts (on the same day) for both new-style and old-style believers. In fact, the feast has two days, the next day, Monday (also called the Monday of the Holy Spirit), being celebrated the Holy Trinity. By the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles, they learn to speak in all the languages of the earth, and go forth into the world to bear the word of the Lord. Through the inspiration speech of the Holy Apostle Peter, there are a mass conversion, the first Christian community appearing in Jerusalem, thus marking the beginning of the Christian church.
The video shows church songs taken from the official website of the Old Style Romanian Orthodox Church.
