Not particularly "celebrities" but not everything has to be knowledge oriented... You need entertainment too, we have a very short life to live on this earth... Learn as much as you can but also have a good time just so you can escape from everything sometimes. We're not machines we need something to keep our minds at ease and I believe the term 'celebrity' helps in someway or the other if that make sense.
