  • Even dough it looked unsurfable, we had such a blast in these tiny 1 foot waves. Watch Maileen and me score some "Set-Waves" in Salinas, a Spot in Asturias well suited for Prone Foiling as its usually not to steep and mellow. Still, It's a city beach and therefore usually pretty crowded making it hard to Foil once bigger swell arrives. And Foiling in a Lineup is a nogo sadly.
    Enjoy the Video and comment for questions : ) Foiling makes even the smallest waves super fun - share the stoke
    Equipment Used:
    Maileen: Gong Lethal 4,8, 65 cm Alloy v1 Mast, Fluid XLS Frontwing, Surf (idk which Size)
    Leo: Vampire Custom 5,0 Prone Board, 75 cm Axis S Series 19 mm mast, Custom Doodad and Fuse, Curve XLH Frontwing, Fluid h38 Stab

    Hi mate, also learning surf foiling right now, use to wing foil and dock start, i'm riding an hipe perf 4.8 48 L wich looks ok but i wonder how is the feeling difference on a rigid board ? (about pumping and take off) Cheers and great footage !

    • @leo-stief
      @leo-stief  2 месяца назад

      Hey man, I started on a hipe 48 l too for prone Foiling! I think the inflatable Board feels pretty good honestly, but the rigid Board definitely gives more control and a noticeable better pump... I think the take off doesn't really get easier, but releasing the board is easier with the rigid Board, especially on higher-speed touchdowns. To summarize the rigid Board feels better for sure, but to be honest, if i hadn't have gotten my rigid Board for free I would most likely still be happily riding the inflatable hipe version 1 :D

    I was about to buy the gong X-over L but then saw this video you are using a XL? Is L too small for pumping? Im 70kg surfed a lot and want to get into foiling now. What cm2 surface area do you recommend? I was also looking at the curve....

      @@leo-stief cool anyways, I plan a Malaga trip next spring, but that's another coast. You do really amazing foil surfing videos. I've never thought of using it that way!

    great to see you enjoying prone foiling, are you still going pumpfoiling? Haven`t seen anything lately from you in that direction...

      Waaaas Up man, I've been slow on posting pump content lately as I'm mostly riding my Downwindboard and haven't filmed too much pumping content in quite a while... I'm still pumping occasionally but at the moment my focus is on Foiling in the waves as I'm often at spots with great surf/ downwind conditions :) There'll be Pump Videos again if I'm more landlocked again : D

      @@leo-stief did you move from Berlin or are you just driving more to the coast to catch some downwinders?

      @@FoilingPastor I'm driving to the coats more frequently as I have more free time on my weekends nowadays :D Plus I'll probably only spend the next summers in Berlin, leaving Germany when it gets too cold in the winter time :)

    Most people I saw went out when the tide was to high and the waves were more round and fat...

      It's surprising how good shit tide conditions for surf work for foiling 😋

    This is awesome, I have the gong x over xl with 85cm alloy mast for wingfoil, do you think this would work for prone and pump foil on a different board? Thanks

    • @jeromesurffoil7033
      @jeromesurffoil7033 11 месяцев назад +2

      It will work for prone foiling perfectly fine! I just got out of the water prone foiling with my X-Over XL and 75cm mast in 1-2 foot waves. It can ride waves no problem and I am just beginning to pump back out. I wouldn't use it in much bigger waves than that because it has too much lift. I have the newer Curve on order for better pumping I hope.

    • @leo-stief
      @leo-stief  11 месяцев назад +1

      I think so too! It should work for Prone and pump, however, the X-Over XL is very lifty and therefore not the best choice for prone when it gets bigger... But I think for the start it's well suited : )

    • @BenBenBenJohnson
      @BenBenBenJohnson 11 месяцев назад

      @@jeromesurffoil7033 thanks for the reply, I’ll likely be surfing if waves are bigger so if it works in tiny waves that’s perfect- may need a shorter mast

    It seems as you prefer the axis mast over the gong, is it that much stiffer?

    • @leo-stief
      @leo-stief  11 месяцев назад

      It's not really stiffer I would say. I just like the Idea of my Frankenfoil and beeing able to ride Gong, Axis, Sab and basically everything else on the same mast as there are lots of adapters around nowaday's :) The only true benefit I would argue is that the Axis Mast is lighter...

    • @JohanFruend
      @JohanFruend 10 месяцев назад

      The axis mast is waaay stiffer than the gong mast. Leo just doesn't notice because he's too good and learned on the gong v1 mast .

    • @leo-stief
      @leo-stief  11 месяцев назад +2

      Hey man, I might cover the adapter a bit deeper but I didn't build it myself. It's a milled and slightly modified Gong Doodad and standard pro Fuse. Everyone with a mill can build it themselves. I can send you some pictures if you want to :)
