  • On Wednesday, September 16, at 12:00pm Eastern, Natural Resources committee staff hosted a briefing on environmental justice in the state of Colorado. While Colorado is considered a Mecca for outdoor enthusiasts, there is still rampant environmental injustices across the state. In the city of Denver, Globeville and Elyria-Swansea are some of oldest-and most polluted-neighborhoods in the city. With several nearby industrial factories, two busy interstate highways, diesel train traffic, and soil contamination from historical smelting operations, the communities of Globeville and Elyria-Swansea bear some of the nation’s highest environmental risk. Additionally, there are massive fracking activities, water and air quality issues in the State.
