I have a fantasy that the band performs the theme from Jonny Quest by Hoyt Curtin for the final intro tune. They would need to add the sound effects for the gun shots and explosions. The trombone solo is notoriously difficult. This band can pull it off! Just as the song comes to it's climax Fagan strolls out on stage.🙂
Thanks for this post. Steely Dan or how I learned to like jazz and didn’t even know it. Great concert and so glad this band still tours. Walter Becker is still with the band in spirit
Dripping with sophistication and class, there is no musical entity on earth that matches this band, the opening piece made me laugh out loud, it is just beyond words how good this band is.
No matter who's in the band, SD always sounds just like you remember them..We miss Becker, Bumpus, Beard. Great Show. I hope to see them sometime soon.
If you get past the Donald Fagen “Crucible”, you know your a fantastic musician.. he has always had the Best of the Best with him.. this is the latest iteration of that
Now these concerts are only for the elite. It's really a shame. I used to go to a lot shows even when I was just a young teenager, just saving my piddly weekly allowance ...no problem. Now ? Forget it.
Thanks for posting this. I wasn't in a position to get off work and buy a ticket to see the Eagles in another town and get lodging just to see them, but i will seriously look into it for any future tour
I want Donald Fagen to be active for a long time. But even if he's gone, I hope the band continues to play Steely Dan's music like the Glenn Miller Orchestra.
My wife and I attended a SD show at PNC Pavilion at Charlotte a few years ago. We sprang for some pretty pricey tickets. This guy sitting ahead of us starting acting out like he was tripping or something, turning around and mugging at us and others sitting around, running his mouth, standing and sitting, waving his arms, picking at his friends, etc. etc. I felt bad for his friends, they were clearly embarrassed. I was so mad. If he had laid his hands on me or my wife I don't know how I would have reacted. After putting up with this for too long I finally talked to a security person. After a little persuasion they walked him out, still behaving like a spoiled child. Pretty well ruined the show for us. Moral of the story is don't wait to notify security.
For the life of me I can not find the names of all the band members on this tour. Does anybody know? Hard to believe Jim Beard just passed away on March 2nd? He was a member of Steely Dan since 2008 and had been touring recently with the band on the Eagles’ current “Long Goodbye” tour. I'm assuming this is from that tour? Looks like Jim last played with the band on Jan. 20th. Sad loss.
Yes, very said about Jim Beard. Here is a Wikipedia to current member when you scroll down. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Steely_Dan_members It looks quite accurate. I saw them yesterday night. No mention was made of Beard but I'd like to think they were thinking of him, in spirit. Fantastic show! Everyone , including Fagen on their A game.
Very sad. He was a gifted musician, arranger, composer, and a very fine human being. The band I think in this concert is: Roger Rosenberg, Bob Sheppard, Michael Leonhart, Jim Pugh, Keith Carlock, Larry Goldings, Carolyn Leonhart, La Tanya Hall (?), Jamie Leonhart, Freddie Washington, Adam Rogers, Jon Herington.
Yeah, agree Not a lot of singing from Donald I know he’s getting older but… If you were a new listener to SD you would wonder what the words to the songs are
Thanks for posting this. Sounds great. One thing that bugs me is what they do with the stage lighting these days. It's really distracting to me. Good music doesn't need any help and these light effects just distract from the experience.
Was supposed to see this show in Toronto yesterday but Steely cancelled at the last minute. They dragged Tom Cochrane in from BC to fill the void. Completely different styles of music but Tom has still got it too. Good Canadian.
Nice concert...question...how were you able to hold the camera that still throughout? Were you using a tripod because you couldn't have been holding a phone still that long
We had loge seats, which have a countertop with a plexiglass edge that is about a foot tall, so I leaned the phone against the plexiglass, and covered it a bit on the camera side with a napkin to block the lights reflecting in the plexiglass. The downside is that the surface reflected/magnified any voices of people talking around me... but it's a public concert so what can you do :)
Thank You for such a great recording.. surprised Donald didn’t have the staff warn everyone about not recording the show.. He did that in Atlantic City at the Borgata in 2022
@@jimdep6542Yeah, he's tremendous. I actually have several of his albums or at least parts of them. I noticed maybe 6 months or so ago that Adam was in the band. That band is loaded with killer players.
They tour pretty regularly, Keep a watch out. They'll be back in the area before long. Plus as big a city at ATL is I can't imagine they wouldn't reschedule. They're bound to have a huge fan base there.
@@btrustmanWow ! I've never seen that happen at a concert before...but I haven't been to a show in decades. I used to go a lot when it was still affordable, and that was before I became a full time player back in the late 70's.
Well look at it this way, people behind have also paid a lot of bucks for those seats and if the stage is not too high the folks standing will block the view of the performers. Keep your seat during the song, after the song is over, stand, yell and cheer and raise a little hell then sit down. That shouldn't bother the folks behind, if the performance is good enough they may stand as well. Take a load off and enjoy. 😊
@@tomcook8711 That's the way it used to be and that was the etiquette most people respected. I liked shows that were general admission too, where if you wanted to move around, it was ok because you weren't tied down to a seat. I remember shows too such as Santana in the early 70's, that when Carlos was soloing, people would stand up and they'd sit back down when he wasn't.
Was this their double-bill with the Eagles? I imagine a lot of people there to see the straightforward rock of the Eagles did not know what to make of the jazz-rock stylings of Steely Dan.
I wonder what overlap there is these days, as well as who is going to big arena tour shows these days generally. I don't mean to poo poo anyone, but I am seeing these conversations about lots of artists on big tours
Anyone that says that obviously doesn't know what they're talking about. SD has been touring regularly since at least the early 90's perhaps longer. I saw them in 92 at Charlotte.
Except perhaps if they perform a Fagan solo song Walter's finger prints are all over every song. Lyrics, arrangements, mixing, all of it. Correct on the uncredited studio performances. Walter is somewhat underrated as a guitarist.
Don has never been know as a great vocalist. Of course he sounds great on all studio recordings. Saw them a few years back and he seemed to be fighting a cold, lots of clearing his throat and coughing, got to give him cred for pushing through.
Saw SD a couple of times at PNC Pavilion at Charlotte over the last 8 or 9 years (outdoor). We had pretty decent seats, left side, maybe row 20 or so. Acoustics were awful, could not really hear Jon Herrington. PNC seems to have a rep for poor acoustics. I will say though we saw the Eagles in the CLT colosseum (indoor) and the sound was amazing. Not very loud at all, but very clear no distortion unless it was part of the song.
You never get tired of listening to Steely Dan
Keith Carlock on drums. What a monster!
He's a beast!!
Amen! University of North Texas Alum.
He’s one of the greats.
Exactly!!
That drum solo at the end. Fantastic! 🥁
My dad is smiling in heaven.
The smiles of the beyond.
If there was ever an intro that said loud and clear, "We are not your standard rock band," it's this one.
What were the opening and closing tunes?
I have a fantasy that the band performs the theme from Jonny Quest by Hoyt Curtin for the final intro tune. They would need to add the sound effects for the gun shots and explosions. The trombone solo is notoriously difficult. This band can pull it off! Just as the song comes to it's climax Fagan strolls out on stage.🙂

RIP Jim Beard! It had to be hard to play this show just 2 days after his death....
No shee
Jim Beard died? Piano player and other keys right?? Was he ill?
I'm pretty sure, those of the Steely Dan clan who've left us, would want nothing more than for those left behind to continue in their footsteps.
Those back up singers sound great ! What nice dynamics and harmonies.
The Steely Dan girls are the best around
One of the best bands ever! Helped me get through college and focus on my homework!

How are the neighbors to listen in this economy
Just the most absolutely sublime chord progressions in the business.
I was at this show - they opened for The Eagles. We were all in awe of Steely Dan. They were amazing.
That drum solo was outstanding. Can’t put money on it. Would not think the human body was capable of such a solo. Def next level.
Timeless 👍
I wish Steely Dan would play at the (Puyallup) Washington State Fair. I have been a huge fan since the 70's. All of it. Thanks for the jazz-rock, Don!
I had tickets to Detroit and Toronto and they couldn't make both dates. I was devasted, this video kind of helped.
God Bless Jim Beard !!!!
Bob Sheppard? Very cool he still plays with them from time to time. I love his playing. No wonder I was digging the solo on Aja so much!
Yes, very talented saxophonist.
Holy crap, Adam Rodgers and Jon Herrington together. Plus Keith Carlock.

Big difference in set design from Floyd's Pulse (1 carpet and video screen) LOL!!!
Id like to be working on that road crew......
But still great show.
Adam Rogers with Strat ! and off course John Herrington on guitar
RIP Jim beard on keyboards.
dig the up tempo! most older bands slow their tempo as they get craggly 😊
