    Birmingham has a beautiful, clean downtown district with a wonderfully diverse mix of old and new architecture.

      I was really impressed by the city and really enjoyed making this video. I plan on doing a lot of these in the same style- longer videos driving and exploring. As always I appreciate you watching and thank you for your feedback!

      601 TRAVELS lets hope that Birmingham will start having more success in dealing with its serious urban problems particularly economic and crime problems. It appears to be too beautiful a city to have such a horrible civic image.

    I don't think I've ever been off the interstate in Birmingham. Looks like an interesting town.

      It was surprisingly calm and quiet downtown. I plan on doing a lot more of videos like this in this format. Thanks for watching!

      Get off the interstates and explore the city and dont worry about stop signs, traffic signals, and gas consumption. The interstates suck and they have ruined this great country. You see the best and beautiful if you avoid the interstates.

      Exploring With Agility it is a beautiful city. Now if only Birmingham can revive its local economy and solve its myriad of serious socioeconomic problems. It would be awesome to see Birmingham join the ranks of successful, prosperous, growing cities like Charlotte, Orlando, Nashville, Fort Worth, Houston, etc.

    Wow, had no idea how clean and pretty downtown Birmingham is. Lots of trees, mix of modern high rises with smaller, older buildings. Not much traffic downtown, normal or was this a Sunday drive maybe?

    • @601TRAVELS
      @601TRAVELS  3 года назад +1

      It was on a weekend but I've found that downtown isn't very busy even during the workweek!

    So many big buildings! A population of 212,237 cars parked everywhere but the streets appear quiet! They must have known The “601 Travels” was coming to town and they’re all camera shy ☺️

    • @601TRAVELS
      @601TRAVELS  6 лет назад +2

      Haha right! I was very surprised to see how empty the city was considering how busy and congested the highway always is when I drive through it. I was worried about finding a spot to pull over and mount the camera but that was obviously no problem. Thanks for stopping in my friend!

    • @robertpreskop4425

      Erraticlee Me Birmingham used to have a central city population of slightly over 300,000 in 1970.

      Robert Preskop. It’s just People coming going always following where the money’s flowing...

    • @robertpreskop4425
      @robertpreskop4425 6 лет назад +3

      Erraticlee Me that is why it is extremely crucial for Birmingham to diversify and strengthen its local economy. Advertise Birmingham as a lower stress less costly alternative to Atlanta would be a good starting point.

      @@robertpreskop4425 Birmingham has experienced the same problems that all larger cities experience (at some stage)......inner city flight. Birmingham seems to be enjoying somewhat of a renaissance today. The growth and expansion of some of the finest lofts in this Country are proving to be the catalyst. Many have everything from high end food courts, to fine dining, to shops including clothiers, grocery stores, and much more. Birmingham's economy is now based on banking/finance, medicine, education, and engineering, much of which is concentrated in the City Center. Many people can walk to work. The City Center, Southside, and Highland Areas are filled with some of the finest dining spots in the South. The inner city flight is slowing down, but there are incredible suburbs that make living easy, enjoyable, and safe. These areas lure many into their "welcoming arms." One thing that is often overlooked by urban/economists is that Metropolitan Birmingham is the home to over 1.2 million people, who make up the economic success of Birmingham. Birmingham is an intriguing area, with some of the most diverse landscape anywhere. Simply put, it is beautiful out there.

      @@bobbyspence7703 I kinda doubt that, Huntsville is a pretty large city and like any larger city it most likely has its rough hoods.

    • @bobbyspence7703
      @bobbyspence7703 6 лет назад +3

      Robert Preskop I'm talking about strictly downtown an the urban core which Birmingham is the true Urban city in Alabama . Nobody wants to watch a video of Huntsvilles Walmarts an home depots along with sprawl strip malls .. it'll take 60s to show Huntsvilles downtown where than it took 20 mins to show Birmingham's urban core ..

    • @robertpreskop4425
      @robertpreskop4425 6 лет назад

      @@bobbyspence7703 well probably Huntsville's urban core is dead and boring but I am sure that there are both rough, drug infested hoods as well as nice, well kept urban neighborhoods in addition to the hideous car centric suburban sprawl that largely killed off the urban core/downtown areas.
