  • This is a widescreen version upscaled from 4:3 SD to 16:9 HD of a part of the original REOS DVD 018, that has already been released on YT.
The BLS Ae 4/4 is here: • 2000-07 [SDw] BLS Ae 4...
In order to drive freight trains for the BLS two Ae 4/4 locos were being
coupled together permanently. In this way the step switches,
which controlled the speed, could be connected mechanically.
The “double loco” Ae 8/8 that was created in this way, has a
power of 8800 hp. During the summer of 2000 Ae 8/8 no
275 was launched in order to drive the ”Aushubzügen” of the
new “Lötschberg-Basistunnel” from Goppenstein to Raron. The
Ae 4/4 is launched in the transport of passengers between Spiez
    and Zweisimmen.
The recordings were made in July 2000.

Excellent video. Shows the reason why and where a train is needed. Just to be controversial, why have BLS Ae locomotives remained the classic milk chocolate colour? The Re 4/4's from the SBB where painted gray/blue/yellow-green, a brighter and possibly safer scheme.

Thank you for the beautiful video! This Ae 8/8 number 275 is stationed where I live, I see it very often. It is not being maintained, I want to try find out if it could be saved or what else will happen to it. Such a marvellous piece of machinery!

Is this one stationed at Frutigen?

@@REOSRailway Yes, it is standing 770m north of the ticket office of Frutigen Railway Station, on a fenced BLS compound, on the western side of the main line Frutigen-Spiez. Most often, it is hard to see from the train because it is some meters elevated relative to the main line and usually behind freight or supply wagons on a parallel track between the main line and the Ae 8/8.
