I've been told by an archivist at the Library of Congress and by the head of Rare Books at the University of Houston Archives (where I was able to handle several medieval manuscripts) that gloves, due to a lack of tactile feedback and friction between the glove and the page, puts the fragile paper at risk of tearing. Obviously a clean hand is still a must, and I trust Rebecca made sure to wash her hands before handling the leaf.

When we went to library of congress in 2011, they had a Gutenberg bible on display. It was pretty awesome to see.
