    I have the good fortune to have DonThompson as a musical mentor and friend. He is as knowlegeable about classical music as he is as a world-class jazz musician, multi-instrumentalist, composer and arranger.

    The 5th sting puts "cello's " out of a work , However ,with that extended finger board ,And your Prowess !, You are doing a pretty good job with out it!( I play Bass),Stunning Is the word ,as I sit and watch your every move.....Thank you "Joel " just for being here ! Godspeed!..(I also watch "Lorrain Campet " for french bow)

      I count only four strings, but I believe he tunes to 5ths rather than 4ths, giving the extended range you obviously hear. I suspect you were looking with your ears. ;-)

    You have such an underrated channel. You make the sound of the bass more beautiful than the cello for me.

    Although there is such freedom in their playing is sounds like inspired improvisational moments. Don Thompson informed me that all the music both solos and duos was arranged by Don.

    Une vraie, superbe et digne de ce nom sonorité de 'Contrebasse'. Je déteste que certains contrebassistes essaient de sonner comme des violoncellistes. Une contrebasse est une contrebasse et un violoncelle est un violoncelle. Deux instruments avec leurs caractéristiques sonores propres. Joel Carrington m'a toujours impressionné à cet égard.

    • @34hpo
      @34hpo 2 года назад +1

      @Claude Thompson. Entièrement d'accord. Mais le paradoxe est que Joel Quarrington est connu pour accorder sa contrebasse, non pas en quarte, mais en quinte... comme un violoncelle😉.
      Très cordialement.

    • @claudethompson354
      @claudethompson354 2 года назад +3

      @@34hpo Effectivement; mais cela n 'est pas nouveau. Ainsi, Bottesini avait des contrebasses accordées en quinte. Pour la grande virtuosité, ça présente de nombreux avantages. De toute façon, quartes ou quintes sont secondaires. Comme pour tous les instruments à archet, c'est l'archet qui fait les grands virtuoses de la trempe de Joel Quarrington et même quand je ne le vois pas jouer, je m'émerveille d'entendre combien son archet semble sans fin. C'est la marque des grands virtuoses.
