I just can't understand anyone giving you a thumbs down ever - maybe they are the meanest ever quilt police, or maybe they wish they would of thought of how to do what you do first. Why do they even come to your videos if they don't like them? Just know Jenny the majority of fun loving people who are learning to quilt love your videos. I hope you never quit doing them.
If George and Jane Jetson had a quilt, this one would be it! It is very modern and has a lot of negative space for show casing the quilting! I love Friday tutorials! Thanks Jenny! Have another wonderful day dreaming up great quilts for all your quilting friends!
You're so sweet, Carol. Happy Friday to you as well! :)
Absolutely adorable! Sort of churn dash gone avant garde. Thanks Jenny
That's a great way of explaining it, Dory.
Jenny, this is such a cute quilt. The fabrics you could use are endless, holidays, QOV, college fabrics, left over scraps. You're 'sew' creative. You are loved by so many people who want quilting to be fun. I Love your books - they have become my favorite gift to give my friends. Thank you a thousand times over.
I dig it! Awesome take on the traditional churn dash!
I love that Jenny puts out so many videos and thats also what I hate because I've do not have the time to do them all!! ♡♡ Jenny!
Very unique ... almost an Oriental look ... love it! Another great pattern. Thank-you Ms Jenny!
I love the look of this one; slightly Asian with those fabrics and the wonky angles. Thanks for sharing this one.
We're so glad you like this quilt Alice!
Perfect retirement quilt, as everyone can write on the blank middle square. Thank you Jenny for turning the expected into the unexpected! Claire, UK
That looks so funky! Love it!!
Love this quilt and the tutorial showing step by step how it is made. Not the traditional type quilt and the angles can be whatever I pick. Think I'd use a different color than white for the foundation square. Thanks for a unique quilt :)
Gosh, great way to use bits and pieces left over from my spider quilt. Love it xxx
I have Halloween fabric that I plan to use for this quilt, with my center block fussy cut with a Halloween picture. I've seen another pattern similar to this, but every block is the same. However, I really like the randomness of the blocks in your quilt. It's also a challenge for me since there isn't a strict pattern to follow. I can't wait to make this one. Thanks for another great tutorial.
I love that you give yardage as well as precut names! Thank you!! I order precuts for you but if I need something in a pinch I stop by my fabric store that does not offer precuts!
Wow Jenny! Such an awesome quilt! Here it is summer, and I've restricted my quilting to rainy days, lol. They are few and far between this summer, but your tutorials are great to watch during my gardening "heat breaks"!
I think this is one of my favorites! No need to worry about perfection, just have fun with it. I like the idea of making a baby quilt with it!
like how this is a more modern quilt
Hello Jenny, love this simple block (it's a great scrap project) 😁💕 Erica x
Wow..i like this one am going to try to make one for my 5 yrs old son 😊
How fun....gotta try this one on a baby quilt.......I think I will use left over 2 1/2" strips.....thank you again for another great bit of inspiration
That will be so fun!
Great way to use up scraps!
I immediately see a Halloween quilt made this way. What fun!
Love this one! 😍
I wonder how this pattern would look if you used a print fabric for the background and solids colors surrounding the center block? This pattern really has many possibilities. Thank you for sharing.
That would be so fun! Your fabric choices will definitely change it up for a new look. :)
fun fun fun! Now to find my white charm pack! ;-) Thanks so much x
Thank you for this tutorial. I was searching for a block that would complement a halloween panel I just purchased. This would look great with all those fun orange, black & purple prints!
We'd love to see your quilt when it's complete! :)
love this. will definitely make this one
how fun will share with both of my quilting groups.. thank you !
Thus is very pretty. I think it has an oriental look about it. Many thanks for sharing so much.
Ooooh I love it!
love this!!!
That is just a great "non pattern" :). love it. Thank you and God bless
Love it, thanks!
This wonky weird pattern would be so good in Halloween prints. :)
Halloween patterns would look so fun on this freestyle churn dash quilt Amanda! Great idea!
Thank you Jenny for this fun quilt. I can't wait to make it.
This is a really fun block. Thanks for showing us your technique! Love it!
Such a very modern quilt! Regimented with a dash of wild :) Love it, like I do all your blocks/quilts!
This would make a great stash buster quilt. For those who would like a smaller quilt, you could down size it by using mini charm squares. Plus you could also do this on a foundation paper piece if you wanted to have better control of the foundation fabric. Just imagine how this would look with different foundation color other than white, such as with black which would give you more of a Amish look to it. As Jenny says let your imagination go wild not only with the wonky placement of the fabric, but also color as well.
There are so many possibilities with this one, Linda. I love that it's got your gears turning! :)
Imagine using photos-on-fabric or t-shirt cuts as the center square of the 9-patch. How cute would that be?!
That would be absolutely darling Mrs McDonald!
Mrs McDonald I completely thought the same thing!
This is definitely a fun quilt to make and to look at! Thanks for a wonderfully fun and pretty quilt block!! ;)
Yet, another amazing & easy quilt tutorial! Love you And keep them coming!!!
awesome! thanks
I love how little waste there is. Thank you for the clear captions - it means I can watch the videos on mute so my husband isn't "disturbed" when he's sleeping. ;D
Perfect plan Elizabeth!
I LOVE IT. iT IS EASY AND REALLY NICE.
LOVE it! Thank you for another GREAT quilt idea!
Great scrap buster too!
I just love it. U r wonderful. I need to do it in a king size for my bed. Thank you ! 😍😘
Love it! Thank you for another great tutorial.
Love this quilt! I was hoping you would tutorial this!!
real nice !! :) well done :)
Too wacky for me! Glad some people love it!! Love you, Jenny!!
We appreciate your opinion Mary!
I loved it! And thank you for showing us the back. I'm always wondering what you picked for the back! ;)
This looks really fun. Especially for a scrap quilt- you could use all those odd sized left over pieces. It would be nice to know how much is needed for a King size quilt.
Hi Tela! It would take approximately 7 charm packs and 5.25" yards of background fabric for a king. I hope this helps! :)
Thanks!!
Fabulous blocks! I'm addicted to your tutorials, so fun!!
Thanks, Jenny & MSQC.
Love this and the colors are right up my alley!!! As always, it's a great pattern, tutorial and instruction. You're amazing as always, Jenny.
One question though, When you say a 5 inch border, is that cut at 5 inch or cut at 5 1/2 inch, to end up at 5 inch. Been wondering that for quite some time.
Great question Vonda! You will cut a 5 inch strip and end up at 4 1/2 inches.
This is a funky modern quilt design, and I love that bright Citron Twist fabric collection you used. MSQC used to add solids to fabric collections, so it would be easier to order coordinating solids with the prints. Which blue solids would work with this new Maria Kalinowski Benartex line? Thanks for all of your tutorials! ~Diana from Toronto
Great question HRHDMKYT! If you visit missouriquiltco.com and type in blue fabrics in the search area, you might find a solid blue fabric that would look nice with this line. My other recommendation is to check our cambridge blue fabric. Something like that might look pretty!
I really like the colors of this fabric line. Can you highlight it in a more visible square?
Hi Beth! If you click on the supplies link in the description under the tutorial you'll be able to see the fabric line. I hope this helps! :)
Jenny do you trim away the excess fabric underneath?
You don't have to Linda B, but it wouldn't hurt if you did!
I see them as frames and want put a doctor seuss print in the middle. Do you think that would work?
excellent interesting but difficult
Is there a reason you don't remove the additional material to eliminate bulk?
Hello Lynn! Leaving the additional material on shouldn't cause extra bulk. There also shouldn't be a problem with cutting them off if you prefer to.
Hola Jenny he sido una seguidora y admiradora de sus trabajos en Patchwork, todos muy lindos. pero los explicaciones en Ingles en la parte de abajo del video no dejan ver muy claramente su trabajo, Gracias por compartir sus conocimientos.
Hi Hilda! If you go to quiltingtutorials.com you will be able to find the entire transcript typed up. Maybe reading through it and then watching the video with the CC turned off will help with being able to see everything more clearly. :)
Hi, Am assuming one ten inch square edges 8 of the 5 inch squares, so two quilts from one layer cake, if 4 x5 block quilt?
Great way to get rid of your stash
I love your videos but must say this isn't one of my favorites. Looking forward to next week.
when you did the side bars, you only made 2. Where to you get the other 2 bar squares from fabric?
I see you didn't trim the foundation away. I am wondering if the double layer is bulky?
Hello Bonnie! The double layer shouldn't be bulky from not trimming the foundation away!
Hi Jenny, would 40 blocks use 20 10" layer cake squares? Just trying to get the math right in my head so I can upsize he pattern.
Hello Rachael! With 40 blocks you're almost doubling it. I would recommend getting another layer cake and doubling your other yardage as well to get 40 blocks. I hope this helps and please let me know if you have any other questions!
+Missouri Star Quilt Company sorry I got mixed up there, the quilt you made had 20 blocks, each half 10" square made two corners and two bars, so each block needs one 10" square. Therefore 20 layer cakes would make 20 blocks, and I could get 40 blocks from one layer cake.
To me it looks like a Chinese Churn Dash. 😀
It kind of does joysun1000!
+Missouri Star Quilt Company ordered 5" pre cuts and starting mine today in various yellows and white. Love this!
Excuse me, may I ask a question? Could you tell me how many packs of 5" background squares it will take to make this quilt? Thank you!
I figured that you would need 5 packs of 42 squares for this ( you would have some left over). Would this be right Jenny?
That's correct, Linda! :)
Okay, so a pack of white 10" squares and a pack of 5" will do it. Thank you for the answer! I wish I knew how to figure out how much of this equals how much of that. I do much better with the pre-cuts.
what about a jelly roll and a charm pack
You should be able to use 5" squares dschaechter for the white background, and then you could use a jelly roll for the printed fabric. Below is a link you might find helpful to determine how the jelly roll and charm pack can work for you. blog.missouriquiltco.com/?s=What+can+they+make%3F

beautiful quilt, but I can't do wonky!!!! :-( Still love your quilt and how fanciful it is!
Thank you Patty! We appreciate your opinion.
I'd love to see a drunkard's path quilt!
You're in luck, Ruby! Here's a link to our Drunkard's Path Tutorials: ruclips.net/video/xy-MV6_n3Lc/видео.html

I've seen this one, I was hoping for a traditional set in pie and crust one! :)
Another interesting block, how do you do it??? Completed my collection of your magazine, having a blast with that. Working on your Irish Chain block, would love to see you do the double or triple Irish Chain, please.
Thanks for the comment Ylbahooker! We will keep that in mind!
Jenny, if I wanted to use a pack of 5' squares instead of yardage how many packs would I need to purchase?
If you're talking about using the 5" squares instead of the 10"layer cake Mary, you will need about five packs of the 5" squares.
excellent interesting but difficult
