  • The topic of this episode is ecclesiology, or the doctrine of the Church. In it, I compare the Protestant understanding of the Church with the historic teaching held by the Orthodox. Like the other topics thus far, I analyze this from a historic and scriptural standpoint.

Can it be that when Christ said the gates of hades won't prevail over the church, that He meant death won't overcome the church, that though they will physically die, they will live with Christ? Peter just finished saying He is the son of the living God.

@@gusevening4910 God isn't inclined to come down and reveal to everyone, that's again a superfluous request of which God isn't to be put up to the test. The history is laid out and preserved, we live in the best age technologically to do the work and in humility to ask God for guidance. I honestly don't tell the difference between your comment and what an atheist would ask, considering you might be a Christian or who knows

@@OrthobroJames i’m exploring faith. i have a hard time reconciling the fact that the millions of people for example in china or india, would never have a chance of the christian God revealing himself to them. i grew up pretty much non religious, but in a Orthodox Christian tradition. i was baptized in the Greek Orthodox church.

@@gusevening4910 Okay, ultimately Orthodox do not make salvation claims, no one's salvation is contingent upon hearing the gospel if they didn't hear it in their lifetime, God judges those in that case based on how they responded to natural revelation. If your mode of willing is reprobate, then eternity isn't looking good for you, if you chose virtue, there's a good chance eternity is looking good. A reason why God doesn't just come down and tell is is that it would override our free will, just like God isn't revealing himself to everyone cause then they wouldn't have to make the choice. God respects our free will and won't override that. It's a mystery why God doesn't do certain things, that's where humility and faith comes in. If God truly is God then we have not to worry about those in countries where the gospel is not. Divine revelation tells us: God is just
