I'm so glad you went to Kerkannah. I wanted to go there during my travels in Tunisia but unfortunately didn't make it. I'm planning to revisit Tunisia this summer and I'm 100% going. I didn't realise how easy it is to get there. Thanks 🙏
Actually Tunisia has many islands ! Kerkennah is well known but the biggest and most famous one is Djerba island ! look it up it's a very good destination if you can go there :D
„Budget backpacker“ tourists will avoid the spring and summer where the prices will be higher. Besides, Those places aren’t great during winter, western regions of the country have more to offer like Tozeur or Tabarka.
@@mouath_14 Tabarka is pretty small it's gonna be freezing this time of year... If they get to Djerba they could the ancient Roman Sea bridge to Zarzis or the ferry to Medenine, before going to the most southern Roman fort in Ksar Ghilane Oasis which is really other-worldly and beautiful.
I don't think the man was trying to look forceful. We just don't get much tourists around, so when we do, we want to be generous and make them feel "like home". But unfortunately some of us might insist too hard, it's in our nature ^^ and I understand why it looks off to tourists.
That makes a lot of sense and it is so nice that everyone wants to be so hospitable. He probably didn't have any bad intentions but we just felt uncomfortable 😊
they were checking to see if you're there to illegally travel to italy by sea through the island (a quite common occurence), probably something they doubted seeing how much luggages you had
Hey guys you're a lovely couple enjoy your stay in Tunisia ! as for the Police /military officials are checking almost everyone that comes out of sfax or out of the island itself ...as it is being known as the place from which many unemployed tunisians attempt to illegally migrate to italy ..its not that far from italy
I am not from Sfax but i assume that old guy didn't try to force you or he had some bad background, Sfax is not a touristic city so as a part of hospitality they are glad to see someone foreigner arriving there. Second point you really didn't see nothing from Kerkennah you just walked around the port the island have much more to show.
Im from kerkennah and I commented on your first video in Tunisia to go to Kerkennah.hope you liked ❤️🇹🇳 should have eaten a couscous With fish or spaghetti With sea food
All over Tunisia, you will find nice people inviting you to visit their homes, have dinner with them, and spend a night or two with them at home... All of this is normal in Tunisia... Perhaps most Muslim Arabs think like this... and this is very normal in Tunisia.
PLEASE do not consider that police ineraction to be common in check-points in Tunisia. The ferry check-up in Kerkennah is RENOWNED in Tunisia for being "hot" because a lot of young men (and women and children) from everywhere in the country going there to find a "burner" boat trip and illegally immigrate to Europe... There's quite a few press articles about the issue. You should check out Djerba, and maybe Zarzis if you want the small town experience. Zarzis has a small medina (with a very ancient Muslim and Jewish community) and there's THE BEST wood-fired pizza in the South there that's called "Lampadosa".
About the drama there: It was because some tunisians use that island yo illegally immigrate to italy . So the police there is a bit strict about who is going there and always asking for the reson.
You should visit Tunisia's other Island, it's called Djerba, it's bigger and more "southern". It has very nice beaches and traditional potery in Gallala, and the "houmet el souk" medina, the ferry is a shorter ride (like 20 minutes) and more regular and there is also a bridge linking it to the mainland that dates back from the Roman empire. Also you should definitely visit the eljem Roman amphitheater , if I'm not mistaken it is the second biggest int the world after the colossuem, it is very impressive
About that old guy who invited you to have a dinnner and meet his family actually the tunisian people are so much welcoming and they may seems forsful to invite you but it's the tunisian way to express their kindness so i can assure you as a tunisian that if you've accepted his invitation you would'nt regret it and it will be an opportunity to get to know the tunisian way of expression their feeling .😉
U better stayed in Monastir and Mahdia they're so much better especially Mahdia and its Touristic Zone, so much relax in Borj Erras.. Highly recommended👍
Thank you! We still have more videos from our time in Tunisia 😁 I would love to say yes but we want to visit as many countries as we can so we probably wouldn't visit again just because we've already visited 😊 We would definitely recommend it to others
The port is located on the edge of the island and serves just for fishing and to get to sfax, the towns and the tourist area are about 20 to 30 kilometers away, you could have used local transportation to get there. You definitely should have done some more research 😔
I doubt Marek saw military personnel in the altercation. They were 99% national guard guys which are more like cops but most units dress in camouflage as they are technically para-military.
There sure are some creeps that you have to beware of , but i think the guy was just trying to be hospitable ( it's some sort of Arab hospitality) , he thinks that he should insist so you won't feel shy , to make you feel welcomed . Yes it's a thing , but he was just trying to be nice . Cultures clash sometimes x)
I think without spending some days in kerkennah, you can not speak about a visit of kerkennah. Please If you have time make a plan of some days to visit a unique place with unique traditions in this planet.
you saw nothing from kerkennah , where the docks are, is the worst place on kerkennah nothing to see , on other villages you have museums beaches sights to see sings to do specially after the bridge
I am getting the gist that your trying to say that south Africa is saver than Tunisia by saying that you have (learned the hard way) and we all know how dangerous south Africa is This one video came across as a little condescending , however you are always welcome to Tunisia and your safety is our duty towards you, your safety is never guaranty even in that safest places on earth
There is nothing they said that hinted to that. Either your english is not good enough at which point maybe learn in a humble way and may dont embarrass yourself and us with you by attacking suck nice people with dumb accusations
I don’t blame you for not going with the guy that invited you to his house but tunisian people in general and sfaxien in particular are very friendly and harmless but as i said I don’t blame you for declining his invitation Safety come first I hope you be able to go to the other island called Jerba it’s a cool island and more touristic

Wait! You made it to the island with the intention to turn right back same day???? Hummm! Major Mistake number one: You chose Sfax over Mehdia ( Major mistake Especially considering how close you were) Major Mistake number 2 is you arrive in the island ( arguably the best part of Sfax region) and turn back within like an hour? it is not like you guys..Kerkenah is so beautiful and you went to the port? then managed to judge it based on the port staton area?! That is not like you guys to do that, thats why I am puzzled. You guys are so well traveled and so polite and cultured, you are nothing like some Americans this makes me think ok who are not not at all well traveled or cultured, who mostly take cruises instead of actually travel. The cruise ship stops in many countries/island countries for like a couple of hours. People only see the port and do one tiny cheesy activity, 2 hours later they are on to another country...then they go back home and say I visited these countries and start giving you their impression on the country and its people and culture, and I'm like how the f?? So your 5 mins in Kerkenah made me think of that ( It was in no way a comparaison with Americans, you guys are amazing and nothing like) I think you should simply turn back and do another video with both Kerkenah and Mahdia on. If you do this and regret I will personally pay for the money and time spent on those 2 days! ( so keep your receipts!) On the other hand, what you guys said at the end about gut feeling, is very important, very wise, very true and very much a proof of well traveled people!
