I got the chance to shoot an underfolder that was full auto last summer. It’s REALLY hard to control and after about 4 rounds it’s almost on the ceiling. I’ve also shot a browning BAR in full auto and it was easier to control and keep on target than this. Still a fun gun tho.
I do like that the Russians were smart enough to copy the German MP-40 stock. For that matter the AK is a simplified STG-44. If not for the Germans Russian wouldn't have a cool infantry rifle or a space program but maybe the US space program is German too.
Hi Mac, former British soldier & subscriber here from the UK. Great video as always, the shirt you wear in this video is identical to the one I wore in Kuwait & Iraq '91 in the 1st Gulf War. I served alongside US soldiers who I must hold in the highest regard, really squared away professional men & women. Kind Regards, Gary.
Good looking AK. I used to have a Hungarian underfolder and I wrapped the stock arms for comfortable shooting. It will take 6 feet of paracord each to wrap them. You can use the cleaning kit to also adjust the front sight as well.
Ive also always liked the angled stock on the underfolder. Just has that traditional AK look when i think of old school AK. Thanks for the vid crazy times now
Tim, I love your videos. You're the reason I bought an arsenal SAM7SF years ago! Edit: come to think of it, you have been the reason I've bought several AK pattern rifles!
I visited Yemen ~14 years ago. The underfolder was the AK of choice because with a short sling over the shoulder the AK site very nicely at the side. They are owned by everyone these, and are very much part of there daily attire where ease of carry is important.
My first ak was a sam7uf. I bought it actually based on your positive review! I loved it but ended up trading it for a fixed stock one because I liked the better options for mounting optics. I’m a college student and only have enough money for one ak, so I’d rather it be a tool than a collector piece. Kinda wish I hadn’t sold it though its serial number was “6969” and my 8th grade humor couldn’t get enough of that”
bludmakesgrassgrow +1. Underfolders suck to shoot. Side folder is still light weight, folds away nice and compact, still can cheek weld it and mag dump all day in comfort
Because underfolders have a flush rear end on the receiver, they are slightly shorter overall then the equivalent sidefolder (almost an inch). This may sound like a marginal gain but it make a difference for my sneaky bag setup.
Josh Domoslai I totally agree! Under folders looks sexy as hell. But they suck. Like you said. I always leave the butt of the UF unfolded and lay it on top of my shoulder. I see other foreign troops shoot them that way too. I believe the M249 and M14 have that feature also. 7.62 has hardy no kick so it works out ok. The side folder does kinda get in the way with a 75 or 100 rd drum. The polish side folder I'm referring to.
Easiest way I've found to remember the formula to adj. iron sights is the acronym F.O.R.S. . Front Opposite , Rear Same . I'll be switched if it doesn't work every time ! I didn't invent that. I was just lucky enough to pick up on it as a young shooter. Them friendly old guys at the range are smarter than you might think !!
The only thing Arsenal needs to work on the is the finish. Mine looked like they used spray paint to finish the weapon. It bubbled up the first time I fired it. Totally unsat for a for a higher end AK. Semper Fi Tim.
Fun video. As for the rifle, the under folding stocks suck big time, while the rifle is too heavy with the milled receiver IMO. I like wire folding stocks best as they are tough but compact and fold to the right side of the receiver so do not have issues with side mounted optics.
I've never heard anyone reference the first mark on the rear sight on an AK. My best guess is you zero at 25 or 50 yards with that and your range should be correct.
The first mark (cyrillic letter П) corresponds to a battle zero of roughly 250m or 18m (same zero at both ranges) and is intended to cover a wide range of distances with acceptable zero deviation in elevation.
I can't get a good sight picture or cheek weld with a standard AK stock or a straight underfolder stock. I'll take the slight increase in muzzle flip of the slant UF stock to get a better cheek weld and sight picture.
I have a Sam7 that had 4100 rounds thru it without any cleaning, just adding lube to the chamber before taking her out and she would just ran flawlessly
Chickennugget Favela, get you a Rifle Dynamics M4 stock adapter (the best in my opinion), tube, stock of choice, & classic forearm. Stone the rails, clean up the sharp edges, add sight mount & sight. That WASR will be a top shelf fighting rifle. That is my favorite platform to build on. That Romanian barrel is very good also. No unhappy customers as yet.
@America that sucks they're hung up. I acquired a romanian cugir wasr 10/63. It is straight as an arrow (no gas block or sight post cant) and came with 5 steel mags. All for a bone stock glock 43 and some ammo. I have test tired it, but no range time yet. Having read some horror stories, I'm surprised how solid it is. Guy also through in some 100 rounds of norinco stuff that apparently you cant get anymore.
Luke B I've had a M2HB built back in 06 and still haven't got to shoot it yet. Hard to find a range that will let you shoot it. Sucks living in Houston.
I have to wrap mine, it gets painful after a few hours. In the winter it’d be terrible too. I want Zastava USA to bring in more if their under folders. I think theirs was called the NPAP or ZPAP. I have one of those magnamatic tools. It’s a heirloom tool you can hand down to your kids for sure.
