hey bro so i thought id give a bit of insight, i cant speak to everyones anxiety but for me its like constant dread. I got out of a family domestic violence situation in the past year or so, police n having to punch on a lot etc. and basically my anxiety that remains from living in a very unpredictable volatile environment feels like no matter how good something is or how much i achieve, something majorly bad is on the horizon approaching me. just constantly feeling as though something very bad is coming my way like death or financial hardship or anything like that. Theres other stuff that contributes to it like being very anti social over my teenage years due to the stuff that was going on. The anti social part has basically made it so if i go somewhere with a lot of people there, my vision starts to go blurry and all sound gets drowned out like I cant even understand the cashier talking to me etc. its been a big battle but in the past year now that i can be free, ive just been working on overcoming it and getting out there. glad I found dave years ago as a teenager, hes really shaped the person ive become today and how I think about the world. For me, anxiety is fear combined with stress, usually of something that feels like my life depends on, ie job interview or a health outcome. I just want to run away in the moment, or hide, can't breathe, can't remember my name... It's a horrible feeling. Fighting it is hard cos you are fighting yourself, but you have to. Cos in this world its seen as a weakness, instead of a normal part of life.
Saying all that, I was also surprised to hear Dave has anxiety. I dunno why, probably cos it's not what rappers admit to like, ever. But Dave is a strongest person i know in hip hop world who is bringing up topics that are really really important in life, like Domestic Violence, self awareness, mental health, pain, politics, etc. Dave has helped many young men and women explain their feelings and accept they are normal, and look at life differently. Suicide in young men especially is at all time high, and i believe its because feelings are not talked about or accepted.
What Dave said here, also in Psycho and in We are all alone, it's one of the things that put Dave at the top of the hip hop game imho. Cos no matter how tough we are, deep down we all feel anxiety, fear, depression, pain etc sometimes. Dave is just not scared to say it. Other rappers are just putting up a bravado.
