Ugh, I’ll get there eventually. I’ll be watching this a few times to get there. This work flow will definitely help me produce a couple drawings that are far more informative then a lot of bad sections and elevations.
Thanks man this helps me allot on my presentations. I also would like to share what i do in mine like adding earth fill to separate the ground from the sky and finally adding faint trees on the background to give more life on the scene.
Good. Instead of adding textures as a smart object, U can create a pattern of the texture. It helps in scaling, changing the angle, no need to copy the same image multiple times. And the great one is at the end of the day u have a nice library set for the textures inside photoshop. Just a suggestion
Hey Hassan! Thanks a lot! We launched a course focused on diagrams and we teach a lot of Illustrator there: ruclips.net/video/phBj-vx-k-Q/видео.html But you can also search here on youtube for "Adobe Illustrator Basics" and you should find plenty of lessons teaching the core of this program. I usually try to talk more about representation techniques than the basics of a program since there are already tons of really good tutorials out there. But I'll try to include more of this in future videos for sure. 😀
This kind of work can be done directly in Vecrorworks, giving you the advantage to retain the vector drawing as lines. With photoshop you have to turn the drawing into a jpeg with the risk of pixelating lines.
Hey Tom! You're right, vectorwork is amazing for this. I'm a big fan of this software! The risk of getting pixelated is minimal if your export with a reasonable size. Also I think it's worth getting into photoshop because you can go beyond that and apply many other styles and effects that vectorworks can't
Hey Gabby! After effect is such a powerful tool. There are many good tutorials here on RUclips that teaches all the essentials on it. But I can certainly make one that is focused on architecture! 🙌 thanks for the suggestion!
So in a section the section cut and ground share the thickest line, but after that it’s a little confusing. Is it supposed to be the outline of the building as a whole or the most important geometries that take the next thickest line. If it’s the most important geometries, but they’re far away then does outline of the building get a thicker line than those far away geometries? Friend’s answer: The rule I usually go with is what you want most visible or most important to be thickest In studio, we haven’t done any realistic buildings yet and it’s still about experimenting artistically, so I’m still confused on what the important part would be in our unconventionally shaped buildings.
Hi, i used to watch your videos last year and it really helped me make a good portfolio. P.S: It's a bit weird to see your face and hear your voice together :D It's definitely a good kind of weird. I always thought that you would be much older. :P Anyway, Keep doing the good work, my friend.
Hi! What a great video. Thanks so much for making this channel btw! I am a 3rd semester architecture student so I'm still very new to all these programs. I'm wondering where you found all your textures☺️
Hi Corinna! Thanks for the kind words. We have created a few texture packs. You can check them here: packs.learnupstairs.com They are premium starter packs with 100 seamless textures. It has a little bit of everything you're going to need. But we also have an older video here on the channel explaining how I usually get free textures, check it out over here: ruclips.net/video/cUjzrVJL5H8/видео.html I hope that helps you out. Cheers!
Hi, I watched the other section video (with colour inverted) and I really like the effect produced using soft light and inner shadows! May I know why are those techniques removed in this video? Is it because they are not that good / efficient to create a relatively good section?
Hey Polar Bear! Magic wand + masks give you more flexibility. You don't have to be limited by the pattern overlay options. Plus I think it's faster to apply a texture using masks, and then change or restyle afterwards with no hassle
@@LearnUpstairs thanks for your explanation , it helps alot and i didnt notice any different when i worked for linear images like elevation, section and plan but when i start making perspective of isometry, i can easily distort the images in no time

Hey Dev! You have to make sure that the camera in Sketchup is set to parallel projection, then you simply have to use the view toolbar to align it correctly. Or right-click on the section plane and chose "Align with plane" or Align with view (something like that)
Hi, can I please know why can you open your pdf on illustrator as selectable objects? I want to change the line weights of my pdf on illustrator but it just comes as a single object, so can you please help me on this? Also thank you for your amazing work!!
I created a presentation resolution AutoCAD pdf of A3 size with my drawings to scale at 1:300 (scaled using AutoCAD). I right-clicked the pdf and opened it in photoshop. Upon saving it as pdf after working on photoshop, my pdf is very blurry and has lost the crisp resolution it had when I saved it as AutoCAD pdf. Could you please help me? I even tried to use an older version of photoshop.I have been using photoshop for the last 3 years and my pdfs would always be extremely crisp! this is the first time I am facing this issue!!
Hi Oliver thank you for the tips! I have one problem though when I save section as a pdf from autocad and open it in photoshop it comes out as pixelated even with a high resolution. Even when I first tried to open it in illustrator and save it as pdf from there then on photoshop I still faced the same problem. Do you have any solution for this?
Hi! Lovely video! Thank you! I was wondering if you could do a video on how to do appealing line weights with contrast and hierarchy?? I always seem to have trouble with this. I don't know what size the lines should be in illustrator :(
in my opinion, this is something you have to find for yourself as you are the judge of what looks good/doesn't look good. Just keep playing around with it and talking with your instructors during projects to get their opinion as well.
Hey Julia, I usually export from Archicad (or any 2d/bim software) with the correct thicknes, and if I need to refine a few lines, I'll do it in illustrator.
Just graduated BS Architecture. I guess it’s not too late to start learning how to Photoshop 😅 Thank you for this!

If we draw a section of flat situated in a multistorey building, do we draw only the flat we are interested on?
I'd draw at least part of the multistory building but in a thinner and lighter line. Just so that you have a context in which this flat in situated.

It's available in the Sketchup's warehouse. Just search for the project's name (archdaily link in bio) and you should find the result
