Chain shot is what you want to use when targeting the mast of a ship. Grape shot is used for sails or crew. Regular cannon balls can be used for trying to blow holes in the hulls of ships
I think the short Brown Bess muskets are what the sailors use so you might want to hang on to them unless you are desperate for cash. That was the case in Ultimate Admiral at least. If they have bayonets on them it makes your sailors stronger at boarding actions.
I believe that once you have routed the troops manning an artillery group you can have a unit of your men man the cannons and in this way capture them after the battle has ended.
As someone from mass it’s interesting to hear him say middle bro insteps of middle borrow how we mass people say everything different , love the content love the history with every watch. Keep up the great work
On the Naval battles, 2 pieces of advice. You want to "cross the T". Google it. Trading broadsides is just slugging it out. When you can cross the T, their guns are turned away from you while you can rake the length of their ship to do max damage. Where to tack is the other piece of advice, just like when shooting, you need to "lead" your target to move to where they are going rather than where they were. Great video. I'm loving the new game and your videos. Nelson used the tactic at Trafalgar to great success.
charging like that is throwing allot of your troops for basically nothing try to use line fighting use the cover mechanic and try to get 2-3 lines firing in to each one pf there´s fond out for me that it kills more of there units and it´s good to charge in to the right before the brake.
I have been checking other channels and the benefits of the continental army research just spend the rep to get it done because the quality of troop helps with the amount of good guns you have
Hi Chris, game looks good, was needing a pick me up after the lame Pharaoh launch and this could be it. Will wait till we can play as a Brit (being a true Scotsman) so I can retain the 'colonies'. 😂 That being said you probably would have been successful by 1812. Great game, keep the vids coming. Bill
I just found out you can add companies to your initial fusilier regiments! That has made the start quite a bit easier. Since you hadn’t touched on that yet, I figured I would point it out.
I am sorry, this must be a pretty silly question, but just got the game, how do you add companies to the existing fusilier regiments. VTH says with enough officers, guns,m and empty slots but how do you add companies anyhow>
Seems to be going well, but i cant help but feeling a bit frustrated with the excessive charges. I’m aware that militia are at a disadvantage in a firefight vs redcoats, but 3v1 when your units are exhausted and you have decent terrain to fire from… you know what i mean? Anyway, love the vids
To many times have I seen folk fight battles piecemeal, either using a fraction of their firepower or starting battles without first consolidating their entire force . It’s one thing to use a percentage of your force as bait but to not have the entire force in position first is a dereliction of duty lol .
That's because we don't get to pick the starting positions and contact with the enemy happens almost instantly. Have you played the game? If you had you'd understand.
Well, the bonus doesn't need to have a specific game mechanic, the advantage follows from getting more of your guns to bear. Tho from how things work in Ultimate Admiral: Age of Sail, raking shots along the length of the ship do more damage, though hitting the ship at a sharp angle can make the cannonballs bounce off the hull.
How the hell did he managed to get a massive army like that? Wasnt he struggling with menpower in the earlier playtrough? What changed? Just the humble opinion of a random from the internet here but not a fan of the massive cliping of this serie. Blink once and you re now on the whole other side of the map. Sucks cause VTH you seems to know alot about the history of these battles and era, i really like learning these little bit of history related to the events taking place in this game. But since you re the one putting in all the time and effort into these, you do you of course.
I am a bit unclear how the artillery casualties are implemented. Previous game you overran some batteries too, but that didn't show up in the results screen. And now in this episode's first battle you are once again not done any favours. On the verge of overrunning the enemy, you win and get credited with just 1 artillery piece? What?!
The way the game just generates men for the AI due to your success or failures looks to be the same unit scaling problem as Civil War...if this is how they address difficulty again then I'll just pass on the game. I want challenging game play, not a ball ache that I have to cheese.
15:23 that shot was BRUTAL
It reminded me more than a little bit of the final moments of the fort battle in "Glory".

I've been trying but so far it won't let me.
I had troubles with doing that too.
Similar mechanics we have in Empire Total War.
I love all of your ultimate general content and this new stuff is great! Keep it coming!

I think the whole world knows about crossing the 'T'

I love this let’s play. VTH makes it even better. Much love and support this Thanksgiving to you.

15:23 hurts so much even 250 years later

You promised you would upload this video yesterday. I am commenting, liking, sharing and subscribing to lodge my grievance

Yes you can add companies to any regiment if you have the officers to lead, the weapons to equip them and empty company spots available.
@@TheHistoryGuynot exactly. You cannot add units to some of the local militias that the game gives you at the start. Some have limits of 2 or 3 units

@@MrShunwei take the regiment into a town and then double click on the regiment and then you can edit it.

Anyway, love the vids
Ranged combat is so disadvantageous for you that i’ve found charging with superior numbers results in way less casualties and a less drawn out battle
HOLD THE LINE!!!!🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
We really need a new video. Watched you since UG - Civil war.
Your voice is part of my everyday life.

You could try threatening Salem. It might cause the ai to rush reinforcements to its defense and drain Boston to more manageable levels
Awesome video and its nice to see this game advance. Waiting to buy at the perfect time.
With all the melee in this series you honestly could just equip your militia with maces lol
Happy Thanksgiving! Has isolating enemy units worked in this game? Have you been able to "lure" lone units and jump them 3 to 1?
Another crusader kings 3 playlist please, maybe as Viking
Nice!
Artillery is a bit broken at the moment imo.
Cant get close to them ever.
Get close, but not within grapeshot. As soon as they fire, then bum rush them.
I’m wondering, does this game allow you to customize the officer names and style like Civil War?
Happy Thanksgiving to all
In your opinion being such an EA is it worth the 50 bucks?
I think that you are charging with the militia too much.
Don't overlook supply wagons.
Very interessting, but ai has too much troops...
Looks like your getting a handle on it.
I am surprised there is not a bonus for crossing the "t" in navel warfare. A lot better round this time.

is this on steam?
no you have to wait until april 2024

from what i can tell its partially based on how many of the artillery men are killed

When will you return to whiskey and lemons?
