Love your earnest and non-ironic take on the holiday and this album and the value you bestow to your roots and past culture. I admit, save for a handful of the classics, I'm not that well-versed on Bing Crosby, but I am a big Sinatra fan and hearing that Bing set the standard that Frank subverted, definitely makes me interested in diving deeper into Bing's work. Naturally I'll start with Merry Christmas tomorrow. Also Elvis with his amazing '57 Christmas album appeared to follow the same format as Bing's album: one side is fun (rock 'n' roll) and the other side is serious (hymns). I have a similar relationship with that Elvis album as you do with the Bing album: it was the record my parents played most during Christmas. Your video evoked many great memories. Merry Christmas, my friend.
A classic album in its own right, and not just as an x-mas album. It's about as classic a slice of Americana as it gets. Love the cuts "Christmas In Killarney" and "Mele Kalikimaka". I have 1 copy on cassette and 2 on vinyl -- 1 on the Decca record label and one on MCA.
