One of the reason I like watching your videos, is that I learn about sailboats I have never heard of!

Thank you for showing us these boats. They all seem to be within many beginning boaters, or experienced boaters wishing to downsize, price ranges. For most inland sailing I do like the Vinyard, but find it a little on the smaller size. Fine for inland sailing. I like the size of the O'day, but also like the larger island packet for comfortable curising.
Thanks Michael! We are budget sailors through and through. IPs are great cruising boats for sure! I see a lot of the 27s on the market, especially up here in Maine. I would like to get a closer look at one. The VVs are just so pretty, IMO - hard to look away from them, but very narrow. Thanks for watching and stay tuned for more!
I always say, one O'day at a time. I looked up the sailboat data on the Island packet 27 a couple of weeks ago, surprised at the low comfort ratio and a bit high capsize ratio. Always a pleasure guys, thanks for your time and effort

@boatfools iron keel yachts are not necessarily a bad option. I've had one for 20+ years. Every 5 years I wire brush it to bare metal, apply 3 coats of bitumastic roofers paint, followed by many coats of antifouling. Bob's your uncle and Fanny's your aunt....

Hi Guys! Yep, a lot of Michgan place names are hard to pronounce. Mackinac is pronounced Mack-i-naw. Charlevoix is Char-le-voi (French and Native origins).

Ha! Maine has some weird ones too. It’s so confusing because there’s a Mackinaw City in MI as well. Canadian Ken should have at least gotten Charlevoix correct since he speaks French (at least a little bit). For shame! :) Thanks for watching! And for your comment!
You talked about doing the Chicago Mac I’ve got 10. Several were on a Tartan 10. One we did in 40 hours. Another one was 5 days!
I’ve never done this race but would love to someday! 40 hrs is a fast ride! 5 days…not so much…
@@boatfools 333 miles. 4-5 days is normal on a small boat.
Definitely! But the 40 hrs must have been a ride to remember! Hoping to do the Marblehead - Halifax race next year. Similar distance (363-ish).
Re the oday...chartered one of the 34s and one of the 39 many years ago. Nice sailing comfortable boats. Had thought of buying one and looked at a few years ago...all had issues with deck core rot. Bring your moisture meter if you look.

I really don't get people that remove the stoves from boats.
I'm originally from Florida, so we didn't jump from 20:12 to marina.
I have a long list for my next purchase and I'm looking at buying stoves for many of these picks.

You might have to pay a little more for a fresh water boat but it will definitely be in better shape than one who's been in the saltwater.. and I don't know how anyone could not love the design and looks of a Cheoy Lee

Another great episode! Thanks for the education in the beginning on the great loop. Gets me thinking about buying a boat on the lakes especially some of those one owners and making my way out to the Atlantic. The fresh water means you’re getting a boat that’s much younger than her sister ships that spent their lives in salt water perhaps?
Thanks and thanks for your continued support! Fresh water boats aren’t necessarily better - it’s definitely a case by case scenario. But, salt water is a harsh environment… but all things being equal, a boat that has spent its life on fresh water will likely be in better shape.
I have the same year Bombay Clipper for sale in NH. Mine has a Volvo Penta repower. The guy that built these sold the mold to what became the island Packet

@@boatfools yeah, mine was a two owner, I took it over from a friend and he gave me a full history lesson on the mold and how it was sold to IP. Being inside the boat feels like an IP too because it's roomy. I haven't done an exact comparison of the data sheets but I'm sure they are very similar all the way around. Most of the noticable details/upgrades IP did are things like using stainless ports rather than the composite ones on the Bombay and other little similar details people seem to notice, but overall very similar. The Bombay was built extremely well, they are super solid. I haven't listed mine with anyone yet because it's in the Marina and I figured I'd start checking around there with some of the guys that are right there and can easily take a look at it while I'm putting a fresh coat of paint on it and doing a few other small upgrades. I also have a couple of inboards to sell to thin out some of the things we have on the "spare parts" shelf. One is a 2000's series Volvo Penta 19 HP that runs good and the other is a Westerbeke L25 23HP that hasn't been run for a couple of years that I will either go through completely, or sell as an engine someone else needs to rebuild. That time of year!
I'd have to pick the Vineyard Vixen as my winner. I'm not a big fan of the O'day brand ... there are always a large number of them on the used market where I live (23 -29 ft), and every one that I have went to look at has always given me the impression of the "typical" production boat. I also liked the Cheoy Lee 41, but the wood decks are a no go for me personally (probably the source of the leaks mentioned).
The VV is a sweet, sweet boat and only a 1/2 point separated it from the O’Day. For overall comfort the O’Day is the one; for pure beauty it would be the VV in my opinion! Thanks for your comment, as usual!

Chou lees can be nice or can be a maintenance nightmare. With all of those screws into the substrate? Ouch. Rip off deck and maybe re-coring. Ouch ouch.
Hard knowing what you’re going to get. Likely a lot of work - but a darn pretty boat!

Are you using the online version or phone app? The online version is very sensitive to typos, etc. The free app version is just alpha listed.
