    Hey everyone! An editing error made the text for the band photo from 10 years ago appear about a minute later. So the picture at 07:11 is meant to have the text at 07:19 overlayed on top of it. Appologies for the mistake!

    I have one. Am still getting used to the 7 string but the guitar looks great (why I fell in love in the guitar store bought it) and it feels great too :) I took it back in to be set up for standard tuning after 2 weeks. My left hand suits the neck perfectly, it's my favorite guitar by far.

    I would guess the richlite top is because it probably doesn't shine over time like a matt finish would?

    Interesting, great detail on the guitar.
    The price of this is certainly up there - about $700 more in Australia compared to something like the RG5120M. Not seeing where the extra expense comes in to justify the difference - no stainless steel frets, passive pickups makes me think it should be much closer in price.
    Given the neck feel is a huge part of liking a guitar, what made you hang onto this one if it hurts your hand?

    • @HighZ
      @HighZ  5 месяцев назад +1

      It's a solid high quality instrument but the price is a bit steep for it all. That's a good question and funny you ask because I sold it a little after making this video 😆 I had used it on a few songs thinking maybe it's my technique and gave it an honest try. But neck shapes like this are just uncomfortable for my hand unfortunately!

      @@HighZ ah ha, that makes sense. Still thinking of a 7 string at some stage. There's a shop around the corner from work and I've held a couple a few times, but have to walk away as I'm not supposed to be getting any more 🤪

    I know with richlite it's not wood and it's good since it doesn't expand or decrease unlike wood where it does depending on the weather. And If you don't take care of it, the wood can crack. But I would prefer it on a fretboard. It's odd to have it on the top of the guirar rather than the fretboard

    • @HighZ
      @HighZ  Год назад

      True it makes much more sense to he on a fretboard. I guess having a stable body top is nice but that usually isn't a concern

    About this particular model, I am too a bit confused why they chose not to use stainless steel frets. At first I thought that for a while now, all Prestige models came with SS frets with the Prestige “treatment” (rounded fret ends), then I realised that there are “tiers” within the actual Prestige range, as in, you go from around $ 1,500 and those usually had less SS frets yet some models did have them. However, then there’s the higher cost tier at around $ 2,500; I assumed that definitely that tier will only offer SS frets, however, I was wrong - your guitar is one of the few that don’t use SS frets. I was set on getting your particular model but I found out that it didn’t have SS while another Prestige 7-string RGR752AHBF (pic attached) which costs $ 1,650, so about a whole 1k less! Still a Prestige, an ash body, reverse headstock, locking tuners, etc. Now, regarding why Ibanez doesn’t include locking tuners on their tremolo guitars - I’m 100% sure they take advantage of the classic misunderstood concept that locking tuners help tuning stability (which remember, it doesn’t) and they save in cost, which is a shame. About 90% of guitars with floating trems (Floyd Rose style) also take advance of that misconception. I always install locking tuners on my guitars because as we all know, it makes string changes MUCH easier and faster, trem or fixed bridges alike. The good thing is that most tuner brands have drop-in replacement locking tuners that will fit directly and use the same holes and no need to modify anything. Gotoh has the MGT locking tuners that are drop-in instead of the standard Gotoh tuners that came in your guitar. It’s annoying paying for them - they’re not cheap, but eventually you will probably consider it specially if you play live frequently or record at home frequently… basicallly, anyone who changes strings frequently will eventually do the swap.

    Yeah the neck on this thing feels crazy wide and the 26.5 scale doesn't help. The tone is incredible though. Great demo!

    no real excuse to not have SS frets these days. You can work on them with sandpaper and sanding blocks if you dont want to run your files down.

    • @HighZ
      @HighZ  Год назад +1

      I'm inclined to agree since I do prefer them and they're much more durable. In a perfect world maybe there could be models offering both

    I am really amazed by people who can make these shitty Fusion Edges make sound great. I can make great sounds out of Air Norton/The Tone Zone or Liquifire/Crunch Lab or Fishman Fluence Modern, but Fusion Edges? They are so bad for me.

    • @HighZ
      @HighZ  Год назад +1

      Thanks! They do sound better when they're played in a song where all guitar parts are recorded by them. I'm not fully satisfied with the rhythm tone of the opening chord though. If I re-record this song, I'll use fishmans

    • @Chillhoof

      Interesting. I hated how flat and boring the Crunch Lab sounded and find the Fusions perfectly fine. Not amazing but a pretty solid middle of the road pickup choice.

    Why would you want locking tuners if you have locking nut, and they do make Prestiges with Locking tuners but only on Fixed bridges which makes sense.

    • @HighZ
      @HighZ  Год назад

      Hi, the string can slip in the post as you're tuning from the headstock. There are wrapping techniques that can help hold the string in place that are almost as good as having the string physically locked by a locking tuner, but the latter will always be superior. Hope this helps.
